The Todd County Sheriff’s Office said Barry and Carol Bennett, both 63, were found dead Wednesday by a friend who went to a home after Bennett hadn’t returned the friend’s texts or calls.

They said the couple’s 22-year-old son, Dylan Bennett, is a suspect and is driving a blue 2018 Hyundai Santa Fe with a Minnesota license plate with the tag number BCK 487.

“Anyone with information on Dylan Bennett’s whereabouts is urged to call the Todd County Sheriff’s Office,” officials said.

The Todd County Sheriff’s Office says 22-year-old Dylan John Bennett was arrested on second degree murder charges at a hotel Saturday in Cancun.

Authorities say Bennett had contacted County Sheriff Steve Och earlier in the day to say that he would turn himself in to the FBI. But a sheriff’s office statement said the arrest by Mexican authorities came before the information could be communicated to them.

“The FBI is taking him into custody now and will transport him to Minnesota in the coming days,” the statement said.

Officials say he withdrew a large sum of cash from his father's bank account before going to his parents' house on Monday. He then allegedly shot both his parents multiple times, before leaving in his mother's car. His car was left at the home, and officers found an empty box of 9mm ammunition inside.

They tracked his debit card to Columbus, Ohio, where authorities found his car. He then boarded a flight in Columbus and flew to Cancun, Mexico where he has been since Thursday.

Dylan Bennett was arrested in Cancun, Mexico last August following an international manhunt. He originally entered a “not guilty” plea but changed it to guilty on Monday. He was then immediately sentenced to two concurrent life sentences without the possibility of parole.
