He said they went to bed at 11:00 p.m., and when he woke up the next morning she was gone. She left a note saying she would call, but she never did.

Crownover called a friend from a local convenience store on November 28; this was the last indication of her whereabouts. She has never been heard from again.

Crownover left behind all her clothes and most of her other personal belongings, including her vehicle, at Duenas's house. She apparently took $200 with her, however. Duenas reported her missing on December 4. Her case remains unsolved.

<modsnip: broken link>
So this friend she was living with waited over a week to report her missing? I find that odd considering that he says she has mental health issues wouldn't it be a high priority to get her reported missing as soon as possible to be more likely to find her. Also I would love to know where that store was located that she made the phone call from and what she discussed with the person she called. I feel like we are missing some pretty big pieces of this puzzle that would go a long way towards figuring out what happened to her. The taking of $200 seems to be big indication that she might not have been planning on coming back but if she was going to leave and start over somewhere else wouldn't she have took her clothing and vehicle with her it would make more sense to me to pack her vehicle and leave saving the money for things she would need along the way to where ever it was she planned on going. I've become very suspicious of people who say "they were here when I went to bed and I woke up and they were gone" we've all seen how those scenarios play out over and over again.

I periodically look online for information for Sandy. I am told I am her niece. On my fathers obituary she is listed as his sister. I also do remember meeting her that one time at his funeral.
However things have came to light that she may not be blood related to me at all as I have looked into genealogy and it does not fit. I was born in 1977.
My father died in 1985. When he passed I no longer knew much about that side of the family until I was grown. I was 10 in 1987 at the time she went missing. My memories may not all be correct.
<modsnip: inside information> Her story was aired on a crime show and I cannot remember for sure the name of the show but I want to stay it was Crime Stoppers.
I have tried to make contact with her son but I have not been able to.
I would love to have some closing about her. Even though I was young and don't remember much at all about her, I was raised that she was my aunt that went missing and it appeared that her maiden name was the same as mine which was "Poe". The family tree is a bit confusing but I still work on it.

FRANCIS "SANDY" CROWNOVER

Missing since November 26, 1987
DOB: March 21, 1953

5'2", 105 lbs, strawberry blonde hair, hazel eyes

On December 04, 1987, deputies responded to a call from Joseph Duenas at 6421 Pythian Drive in Harrison. Once they arrived, Duenas told them Francis Crownover had been living with him for about a month. He said Crownover had a mental issue and he was trying to help her.

Duenas reported that on November 26, 1987, he and Crownover went to bed together around 11:00pm. He said he discovered her missing when he woke up the next morning. Duenas told investigators he checked with Crownover's friends and none of them had any contact with her either.
Crownover reportedly left a note saying she would call. She took $200 but left her car, clothes and most of her personal items at Duenas’ house.

Two days later, on November 28, 1987, Crownover called a friend from a convenience store. That's the last time anyone heard from her.

No new information. Updated links:

It looks like there might also be some information on Ancestry.com, if anybody has time or inclination to do some poking around.

So…either I’ve missed something (entirely possible) or her DOB is not correct on her MP profiles. I couldn’t find anything about her disappearance or records of her on Ancestry. I searched her name, address and the boyfriend’s.

This is almost certainly her brother’s obit, which means this is her mother’s Find A Grave. Those two things led me to an April 1950 census record for 1-year-old Francis D. Poe. Meaning Francis was born in late 1948-1949 (not 1953). Except, Francis may not be a Poe because Poe died in a car accident in April 1948.

I can’t find her as a Crownover either. I must be missing something because the birthdate is so specific.

I'm missing something too because some of what I found doesn't fit with what you have. I'll have to go back over it tomorrow.

I'm not even sure at this point whether the correct spelling is Francis or Frances. Do we know what the D. stands for?

I’m not sure of anything TBH, so let me know what you’ve found. :D I found as many records for Francis as I did Frances. As for the D., no clue.

Is Crownover her married name, do you know? Or somebody else her mother married?

I found a lot of Frances/Francis Crownovers who are not her. Seems to be a family name.

The only thing I’ve got to go on is her (presumably) brother’s obit that lists her as “Mrs. Crownover”.

That's a clue, anyway.

I'm gonna go get some sleep and tackle it tomorrow.

I think I got it all straightened out. Turns out "Poe" is a difficult name to research because you can unexpectedly find you've gone off the rails into Edgar Allen's family...

Poking through lots of relatives' obituaries, it looks like she used the name "Sandy Poe" in her youth.
