NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WTVF) — Metro Police are searching for Gable Volkert, who went missing during his daughter's cheerleading competition at Municipal Auditorium in Downtown Nashville Saturday.

The Volkert family says Gable stepped outside for some fresh air and water, but never came back. He did not have his phone with him.

The family says his credit card was used a short time later at The Best City Gyro Food Truck on 4th Avenue South, but the food truck workers did not recognize him.

Gable suffers from narcolepsy and has been known to sleep walk.

If you have any information call Metro Police (615)-862-4410.

So.... is the family hinting that he fell asleep during the cheerleading competition and then sleepwalked away?

His friends and family are all over social media.

His wife believes he bought water at the Double Tree hotel next door, and believes it was him who bought the gyro although the food truck workers didn't remember him.

It's curious that he didn't bring his phone with him - did he just leave it on the bleacher where he was sitting at the competition?

Oh man I hate to see that Cumberland River so close to where he bought some water.

This is a little unclear. Was his buying the gyro, and water, what they pretty much expected of him, and didn't raise any red flags. But after he'd done that, when was he expected to be back at the competition? I wonder when his daughter's next performance was.

Metro police are looking for Gable Volkert, who went missing in Nashville Saturday around 12:30 p.m. when he was attending a cheerleading competition at Municipal Auditorium.

Volkert’s wife, Anne Marie Volkert, told News4 that he went missing when he stepped out to get some air and walked to Best City Gyro Food Truck on 4th Ave South near Bridgestone Arena. She said the last credit card charge was at Best Gyro.

With narcolepsy, he could fall asleep anywhere. I used to be acquainted with a woman who had narcolepsy, and she would fall asleep at any time, without warning -- she could go out like a light in the middle of a conversation. She had a sense of humor about it, and would tell about the inappropriate places she had fallen asleep.

If he is a sleepwalker, that could be a really dangerous complication. I'm picturing him sitting down to eat his gyro, falling asleep, then wandering off. Seeing that there is a river nearby is an added worry.

This is a new feature of MP cases for me. I've never known anyone with narcolepsy so I'm not clear on how this could impact a disappearance.

So Gable was watching the cheerleading competition, then decided to get some "fresh air and water" but did not return. Were there any indications that he was tired at this time? Perhaps narcolepsy doesn't have any obvious early warning signs like that.

Interesting that the food truck staff didn't recognize him, but if they were busy with many customers that day they simply may not have remembered him.

Yes that thought came to me as well.

Even though he may have been beaten I'm glad that Gable was found safe at the hotel.

He was robbed but somehow still had his credit card with him, and was in a fugue state but still cognizant enough to know how to check into a hotel?

This is a strange story - glad he's safe, and wonder if they need to revisit the diagnosis of narcolepsy to dissociative fugue.

I'm sure his family is greatly relieved.

Since the people early on who reported seeing him said he was disoriented, I wonder if he's just kind of guessing he was beaten and robbed, based on bruising, but maybe he had a sudden sleep episode and fell?

Not only that but if he was robbed for cash why use a CC for a water? I'm glad he is safe and wish him a speedy recovery.
