The Shelby County Sheriff’s Office has charged a man with the murder of a woman and a 4-month-old baby boy found stabbed in a house that was set on fire.

The Shelby County Sheriff’s Office says that 25-year-old Enoch Zarceno, who is the father of the 4-month-old baby, has been arrested and charged with numerous felonies, including two counts of first-degree murder and aggravated arson.

Family believes he was angry about the possibility of having to pay child support.

Heather Cook, 32, and her son Bentley were found dead in an apartmenton Bennington Circle sometime after 9:30 a.m. Friday morning. Shelby County Fire crews found their bodies while responding to a call of a house fire.

Deputies pronounced both of them dead on the scene. Fire marshals later determined that the fire was intentionally set.

According to an affidavit obtained by WREG, both Cook and the baby were stabbed multiple times.

Authorities say a family told deputies that Zarceno was the father of baby Bentley, and that Zarceno and Cook had recently gotten into an argument over custody issues. Family, however, tells WREG that the argument was about child support for Bentley.

The affidavit says that a vehicle tag registered to Zarceno was spotted near Cook’s residence on Friday morning. Deputies located Zarceno, who agreed to speak with them.

Authorities say that after changing his story several times, Zarceno admitted to entering Cook’s home through a back window. Zarceno reportedly claimed that he found them both already dead and fled the scene without calling the police.

SHELBY COUNTY, Tenn. — A woman and her 4-month-old baby boy were murdered inside their own home, and their bodies were found by crews responding to a fire at the house Friday morning.

Investigators haven't said much about the case at the home on Bennington Circle near Riverdale in southeast Shelby County, leaving details as a mystery. Even so, this is something that's broken the hearts of family members and neighbors alike.

Shelby County Sheriff's deputies said 32-year-old Heather Cook and her 4-month-old son Bentley were murdered in their home on Bennington Circle sometime before 9:30 a.m. Friday.

The happy, healthy baby boy was just playing with his mom last night, only hours before a terrible tragedy would take them both away from this Earth too soon.

The shocking discovery made by crews responding to a fire is devastating family members, who were too distraught to say anything on camera.

They did, however, release video and pictures of the mother and son. @below link:

Heinous. Absolutely heinous. Reminds me of a case in my region several years ago, and that horror never went away and never will. Unthinkable, stabbing a baby, let alone the baby's mother. They ought to remove this demon from the earth and never look back.

Just two weeks ago, Cook posted to a private Facebook group for single moms, asking for advice. She said that she and Zarceno had just begun seeing each other when she got pregnant, and he was already in a six-year relationship with someone else.

She wrote Zarceno asked her to “remedy the situation,” offering to pay for an abortion, and that she hadn’t heard from him until she filed for child support last month.

Zarceno is expected to be in court on Monday morning. He has no bond at this point.

No one answered the door at Zarceno's house Saturday. Zarceno’s neighbor – who admits he’s only known him a few months – described him as a “good guy."

Note: Earlier versions of this story, citing court records, used the name Enoch Turner. He is currently listed in the Shelby County Jail under the name Enoch Zarceno.

What an outrageous and disgusting crime.

The photo of Heather & Bentley is so perfect - they both look so full of joy, you can tell she adored her son. And this piece of trash murders them both brutally because he couldn’t keep it in his pants and was expected to do the responsible thing by helping to pay for his son’s existence and welfare.

Did he seriously think he could get away with this? I just don’t get the heartlessness of it all.

*July 2, 2020:

Our family is relieved to hear of the indictment of Enoch Zarceno Turner in the murders of our beloved family members Heather Reneé Cook and her baby, Bentley Evan Cook, both of Memphis, Tennessee. Heather was a devoted single mother of five-month-old Bentley, who had just begun his life.

"We are grateful that Mr. Turner has been formally indicted for the murders of Heather and Bentley Cook. We see this as a step forward in seeking justice for the murders of our loved ones. We have confidence that Mr. Christensen and Mr. Hagerman will prove his guilt beyond a shadow of a doubt. Justice will be served."
