The search continues.

June 4, 2024

SPRINGFIELD, Tenn. (WSMV) – Multiple locations in Middle Tennessee are being searched as part of the effort to find a mother and daughter duo that were last seen two decades ago, according to the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation.

An extensive search of Benton’s home, including the draining of a pond near his property, was completed after the disappearance but the mother and daughter never turned up. The property has been searched since the case went cold and still – no signs of them.

''The pair went missing in 2004 in Robertson County.
The missing persons case was reclassified as a homicide years later, police say, but no arrests were ever made.'

It's been 20 years since a young mother, Jennifer Wix, and her two-year-old daughter, Adrianna, vanished from Robertson County. Their family has never stopped searching for answers. However, few developments have surfaced in the last two decades in the case, until several months ago.

Following the execution of a search warrant, Joseph Benton Sr. is now facing more than 40 charges, for unlawful possession of dozens of weapons, explosives, and sexual exploitation of a minor, after court records say a 20-year-old picture was discovered. Benton is a felon following a previous assault conviction, and is not allowed to have weapons, according to court documents.

None of the charges are directly related to Jennifer and Adrianna's disappearance, which was reclassified as homicide in 2013.

But Casey believes this could lead to answers, and has met with the Robertson County District Attorney.

"The charges that are being handed down are big, and it could potentially be used as leverage in our case," said Casey.

Casey also said, in a startling turn, Joey Benton agreed to meet with her and Jennifer's mother, for the first time ever in a sit-down meeting.

Updated July 28, 2024; details of disappearance updated.

Details of Disappearance

Jennifer and her daughter, Adrianna Wix, were last seen together between 9:00 and 9:30 p.m. on March 25, 2004. At the time of their disappearances, they lived with Jennifer's boyfriend, Joseph Benton Jr., and his parents.

On the day Jennifer disappeared, she called her aunt and said she didn't want to live with the Bentons anymore and that when she saw Benton later that day she was going to tell him she was moving out with her daughter. Jennifer told her aunt that if Benton "does not agree for us to leave", she would go to her aunt's house. The aunt left a spare key out for her in case she showed up, but she never did.

Benton initially stated Jennifer and Adrianna left home with an unknown individual. He later altered his story and said he and Jennifer had an argument and he dropped her and Adrianna off at an Exxon gas station near Exit 112 off Interstate 65 in Cross Plains, Tennessee. After five to ten minutes, he said, Adrianna and Jennifer got into a white four-door early 1990s model mid-size car, at a gas station near Exit 112 off Interstate 65 in Cross Plains, Tennessee.

Benton stated Jennifer went to their home, without Adrianna, the next afternoon, March 26. She was driving the car she'd gotten into the previous day. She collected her belongings and said she needed some time away. She asked for her income tax return, but Benton's parents were not at home to give her the money, so she left and said she would come back for it. She never did.

Authorities have not been able to verify Benton's story about leaving Adrianna and Jennifer at the gas station, or the story about Jennifer coming back to his house the next day.

In March 2024, twenty years to the day that Jennifer and Adrianna were reported missing, authorities executed a search warrant on the Benton home. A twenty-year-old image of a child in the family engaging in sexual activity was located during the search, along with explosives and weapons.

As a result, Benton's father, Joseph Benton Sr., was charged with unlawful possession of dozens of weapons, explosives and sexual exploitation of a minor. As a convicted felon, he is not permitted to possess weapons. This is unrelated to the Wix disappearances, but Jennifer and Adrianna's family hopes it will lead to a break in the case.

Jennifer and Adrianna have never been heard from again. They are believed to be in danger, as it is uncharacteristic of Jennifer to be out of touch with her family. Their cases remain unsolved and in 2013 they were reclassified as homicides.

SPRINGFIELD, Tenn. (WKRN) — Authorities have identified the human remains discovered in a Springfield creek in early July.

On July 4, a decomposed human leg was found in Sulphur Fork Creek near North Main Street. The remains were handed over to the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation for further DNA analysis.

On Aug. 13, a preliminary forensic DNA examination by the TBI identified the remains as 68-year-old Joseph Frank Benton.

Benton was the father of a man believed to have been dating Jennifer Wix, who disappeared along with her 2-year-old daughter Adrianna on March 25, 2004.

Maybe he was killed because his son feared he would strike a deal on his recent charges...

Even more human remains found in Springfield: Oct. 4, 5 and 6, 2025: "The Springfield Police Department can confirm that possible bone remains were recovered in the water located in close proximity to the greenway in Springfield on all three dates listed," (Zachary)Clark said in an email.: MSN

Very plausible. Or perhaps it was the father who caused the disappearances of Jennifer and Adrianna? One of the charges was sexual exploitation of a minor. Perhaps Benton Sr. was messing with the baby and Jennifer discovered him. Was that part of why the baby had not been feeling well?

Perhaps when Jennifer jumped in to save her child, Benton Sr. reacted by shoving or pushing her so that she fell and struck her head. Or did she put up such a fight that he strangled her? Her death could have been either accidental or murder. The baby, did he harm both of them? Or might the aunt be correct that the baby is still out there somewhere?

The phone call Joey received at work and he had to leave so abuptly. Was it because of the chaos at home? He got home and they hid everything, perhaps.

Then, when the father was arrested on so many charges, he committed suicide in order not to face charges? Or in order to prevent discovery of bigger crimes? I'm guessing he could not stand the thought of going back to prison, especially if he knew how people who commit such crimes are treated by the other prisoners?
