When Shasta Groene came home, there was quite a trust fund that was specifically earmarked for therapy and education. Which seems like a wise provision, yes?

But her father, Steve Groene, contracted cancer. He didn't have medical insurance and his medical bills ate up their income. For awhile, he and Shasta were actually homeless. Even though there was close to $100K in Shasta's trust fund, the stipulations attached to it meant it could not be used for housing, food or other expenses of every day life.

And then for another period of time, the only place Steve could afford to rent backed onto the interstate, the same interstate that Joseph Duncan spotted them from. It was hugely triggering for Shasta to live there, as you can imagine.

Any child being homeless is horrible and a blot of shame on our nation as a whole. But for a little girl who went through all Shasta did just rips at my heart.

Fortunately, a reporter was doing a followup story and found out that Steve and Shasta had been homeless. The community rallied and donations were made to build them a lovely house in a nice location.

I wish so much that the USA would take an example from Austria (amongst other nations). When Elisabeth Fritzl and her children were discovered, they were provided with medical care and then housing and an income (and round the clock security) by the state. This allowed them to choose to maintain their privacy, so they weren't forced to sell their story to the media in order to survive.

Until or unless the USA makes such provisions for the victims of serious crime, I hope that kind hearted people who make donations keep in mind that sometimes life happens while other plans are being made.

I'm going to gush a bit here. I've been a fan of your frequently insightful, and often educational posts since I first came across them, I think way back during the Phoebe Prince bullying threads. The above post is a good example of why I learn much in reading here.

Often, we see new laws evolve due to specific cases here. I think you've just helped to outline beginning arguments for lobbyists to use in a push to get US to adopt practices like those in Austria.

As well, you've made me think hard about how I chose to donate to different charities and funds.

Nicely done. While we might not see direct impact in govt response, I'd count this as a small positive that has come out of following this tragic case.

No you are correct, a 1 percenter will not snitch, but when it comes to a crime against children, they will not participate and he could catch a bullet in his head. I am sorry, but most all that I know and have known, are down for prostitution, drugs, and even murder, but not baby killers... I agree we disagree on this....IMHO

Her body was just identified, so I'm sure this was just a cross-post for those following multiple cases. No connection to this case.

I know the feeling. I've pretty much reached my saturation point for real life evil for the day.

While I'm leaving partially encouraged in general by GrainneDhu's last post, I'm headed to go blow off some steam by slaying monsters on the wii. Pretty sure I'll super-impose the image of a scraggly-arse beard on a few of them before I blast them into monster purgatory. :innocent:

I clearly agree with you on this Portabella. Like i said earlier he may have got assitance claiming a false senerio but now that it's all over the place, no chance.

Yes he had sun glasses around his neck in one pic...and I'm sure if we could find one with him smiling....it would be one you couldn't forget. I wonder if has any tats? Add a mustache with a bald head?

i think that's great that you would do those other images. i would also make it clear that he is tall and linky and his teeth are not alined. i think he would be easy to spot no matter what he did. i am picturing sun glasses and a hat. probably a scruffy beard due to being on the run but that is up to debate.

I still think he is holding low right now.

I am almost positive that pic was Alexandria, not Kyliyah. Yes, she looks young but his pics were almost all uploaded summer of last year. And Kyliyah has a different look than Alexandria. Her nose, mouth are shaped different than Alexandria's.

Anyway, I believe the profile pic with him and the girl is Alexandria, and is proof that he thought she was his child. JMO

TY, but as I catch up on reading, the FB accounts are poof...it was weird when I went to albums to see the upload date of that profile pic...it wasn't in an album...just there as the profile pic.

She looks so blonde...which is why I thought that is Kyliyah.

Now that you mention it...I recall that the photos I could look at individually...all had the date of June 5, 2011.

I wondered about that early on. If someone was invested in his "mission", it mite have been a "let's go git her, no matter what" thang. (all 4)

I'm just guessing, and hate to even think of it. But I think the condition of the remains were such that it was complicated (especially since trash was burned over the graves)...mother's DNA was there and daughter's DNA, but which daughter? Had to get and attempt to match dental records, etc...

I haven't seen it posted here, so JMO, but I read on wtva.com FB (I think?) that hair clippings were found somewhere (the evidence of altering appearance of the other girls and AM), so perhaps they had to DNA test those as well.

It is horrific. And I think you are mostly correct.

Just one picky point: hair clippings don't contain DNA. There is DNA in the hair bulbs but not in the hair itself.

If they found a hairbrush or comb that had hair combed out in it, there's a pretty good chance that there would be at least a few hairs with the bulbs attached. Most people shed a few hairs (complete with bulbs) or pull them out every time they brush or comb.

But if all they had was clippings, it is unlikely that there were hair bulbs attached.

Too bad it sounds like he cut their hair before dyeing it. It would be helpful if we knew what colour they are now if he did dye their hair.

Hmmmmm... the girls had what I would call medium brown hair, so it would be easiest to go darker. Going lighter would mean he'd have to bleach their hair and then dye it (two steps instead of just one). So dark brown, black or maybe a darker red? If he did dye their hair, I hope he didn't have the savvy to do their eyebrows as well, so that they will look a bit odd to most people.
