HAPPENING NOW: Greene County deputies searching for missing 93-year-old man

Authorities in Greene County confirmed with News Channel 11 late Saturday night they are actively searching for a missing 93-year-old man.

According to officials at the Greene County Sheriff's Department, John Gaffney was reported missing from his home in Greene County after he left in his 2001 Toyota Tundra truck.

Late tonight deputies in Greene County said a caller spotted a man fitting Gaffney's description at the Mall at Johnson City around 8:30p.m, adding that he was reportedly looking for his truck.

There have been no further sightings of Gaffney, according to authorities.

AWWw, he was looking for his truck. I hope someone helped him. My Mom is 88 and she is always somewhat lost when she is alone in public. We try to avoid that but she still 'sneAks out' sometimes.

I hope he is found soon.

YAYYYYY. He was found safe and sound. Now , someone take the car keys away, for now. We had to do that for Mom a few months ago. She'd take her Tahoe out and have no idea where she was going or why she went driving. She'd get totally lost and confused and that is a vulnerable position for an elderly person out alone.

This is a very difficult call. Elderly people are still people and sometimes just need some freedom, alone time and being in charge of their own lives -- even if it is just for a mild adventure!
