•Joshua Day was riding ATVs with friends the night of July 24 and never returned home.
•His family reached out to law enforcement after one of Day’s friends contacted them, asking if Day made it home.
•the four-wheeler was located in a wooded area that actually sits in Marion County
•eventually they brought in the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation.

“There’s a couple things that makes me wonder. First of all, if he’s even in that area or if the four-wheeler was taken there and dumped. That is one of the questions that we have not been able to answer,” Sheriff Shrum said.

To Note:
Sheriff Shrum said the friends Day was riding with have taken a polygraph, but he won’t elaborate on whether or not they may have had a part in Day’s disappearance.

He told News 2 that Day’s family continues to suffer.

“It’s kind of turned into a nightmare for the Day family. They’re business owners here in town,” Sheriff Shrum said. “You know, it’s just a mystery. It’s a mystery to us, and it’s one of those things that haunts the Sheriff’s Office as well because, you know, we want to find this guy. And you know, he’s a citizen of the town. Everybody knows him. We just don’t know what’s happened.”

JUL 27

GRUNDY COUNTY, Tenn. (WKRN) — It’s now been two years since Joshua Day’s four-wheeler was found in a field near the Marion-Grundy County border, and his case continues to stump law enforcement.

“July the 24th is going to be two years since Joshua went missing and it has been a tough case to work. It’s almost like he just disappeared in thin air,” Grundy County Sheriff Clint Shrum said.

His mother said she doesn’t expect to find Josh alive.

His mom remembers talking to Josh before he left to go four-wheeling.

“I said Josh are you going camping with your dad. He said no mom, I have to do this one thing. And I said but son, your dad really wants you to go camping with him, why aren’t you going to go? He said mom, I have this one thing I have to do. And I do not know what the one thing was, and that tears my heart out,” Cindy Day said.

Josh’s four-wheeler was found in the Pyburn/Rockhouse area and investigators believe he was riding with other people before he went missing.

Joshua Day had "to do this one thing," and whatever it was, those were his last words to family members before he vanished July 24, 2020, leaving behind nothing except the ATV he was riding that investigators found in the Grundy County, Tennessee, woods.

Day would now be 34. A $10,000 reward put up by the family stands for any tips leading to Day's whereabouts.

"That missing person case remains active and ongoing," Tennessee Bureau of Investigation spokeswoman Susan Niland said Monday in an email. Niland said the TBI will initiate a push this week on social media seeking information in the case.

Searches since Day's disappearance have mostly been focused east of Grundy Forest State Natural Area at South Cumberland State Park and Fiery Gizzard Recreation Area along the county line around the Raven Point Road area. The Sheriff's Office said searches have been conducted with help from the Tennessee Highway Patrol's helicopter and search dogs from neighboring counties, but no leads surfaced.

The ATV that Day was last seen riding is described as a tan Honda Recon 250, which was found during the initial investigation near the Grundy-Marion county line, Grundy officials said in July 2020. Park rangers from nearby Tennessee state parks aided in the search, along with authorities from Williamson and Franklin counties, who sent tracking dogs to help.

Officials said during initial searches the tracking dogs from Williamson County picked up a scent, but the trail was lost.

In the weeks after Day's disappearance, the family began its own push for information, announcing a reward for information that now stands at $10,000.

Cindy Day, Josh Day's mother, said all the family wants is to know where her son is so she can lay him to rest.

“I said, ‘Josh, your daddy is going to be so disappointed, he wanted you to go camping with him.’” Cindy recalls. “He said, ‘I know mom, I have this one thing I have to do, and I can’t get out of it.’”

“Did you have any idea what that one thing was?” asked WSMV4′s Marissa Sulek.

“No,” said Cindy. “If we only knew what that one thing was, that would have changed the course of our history to say the least.”

Josh Day ended up riding ATVs with two other friends near the Fiery Gizzard Trail. That night, Cindy said those friends called her husband saying her 32-year-old son was nowhere to be found.

“And my heart just sank,” said Cindy. “And as a parent it’s like you can feel when something is wrong with your kids. And at that moment my heart, whole chest felt like it had an elephant sitting on it and I knew something was really really really wrong.”
