The setting in that southern gothic novel might also include the date Karen went missing - October 30th - aka Devil's Night.

Back to reality...

WHO did this? WHO would? WHO even could?

JUSTICE for KAREN!!!

Thanx for that info, I think, tarabull... Mind if I edit my comment to include this parallel?
Go to you tube & punch in Devil's Night & view.. The video is so eerie/dark, I'm not even going to post the link...

RE: Back to reality...

WHO did this? WHO would? WHO even could?

Imo, all indicators are that Karen Swift's murder was a random stranger sexual predator/s abduction/murder and may never be solved until there is an eventual DNA hit from FBI CODIS. jmo

sophiebelle, imo, and from my info, the case is being controlled by the prosecutor, and is out of the control of Sheriff Box and the Dyer County Sheriff's Office investigators.

I am beginning to wonder if this case wasn't presented to a secret grand jury mid 2012 that failed to hand down a true bill of indictment. Prosecutors only have one chance at conviction, once an arrest is made and the case is taken to trial. Imo, this would possibly explain the recent search conducted since all lab results would have been back long ago. The ruling of a previous grand jury may only need a little more evidence to give prosecutors confidence of a successful conviction/guilty verdict. jmo..

With that said, and the two year anniversary on the horizon, imo, investigators have been barking up the wrong tree for almost two years now.

(See Pic of lunar eclipse on page 15- comment #365 by Otto)

Add the Lunar Eclipse, on Dec 10/2011, the night before Karen Swift's remains were located adjacent to the 1800s Historical Bledsoe cemetery, possible staging/placement of her body, the three large iron cross that can be seen from miles around, combined with the Halloween connection. As someone suggested in a prior comment. You now have the makings of Southern Gothic Novel, yet tragically this is reality..

Wow! Lots of good points! Now that would be kicker - tunnel vision in going after the hubby who set off so many red flags!
Was it ever mentioned that unknown DNA was found on Karen? I don't recall that...

I guess my thoughts are this: If they thought a stranger killed Karen, they would have been more concerned about the public's safety. I do think innocent spouses (ex or otherwise) would try to be included in the search for their spouse. They would be frantic and asking for help. Especially when there are young children who would be so upset. They would not hire a high dollar attorney and never say another word about said missing person. There was a major problem in this household... that's not been a secret.
If a cult-like killer was on the loose or some type of weirdness going on, I don't think this would have been the first death or the last. But this is just my humble opinion.

The sheriff would not give any details at all about what was found, and even after months and months of saying testing was being done and he would know what happened, it's be silent on his end. Even after he said an arrest was coming, it's been silence. Makes me think he didn't have enough or the DA or Grand Jury were not convinced. I don't know if this sheriff is so scary that nobody wants to try and make him talk, or if people just gave up wondering and waiting. Sadness!

No, IMO, he is not scary at all...he is a super nice guy who takes his job very seriously....it is remarkable that in this area, nothing has been leaked...not one iota from any deputy or anything...this tells me they have a lot and are trying their darndest to protect the integrity of this case....this is really MO living less than 7 miles from where this happened...the sheriff used to be a detective here in my town...he is sharp and he knows what he is doing...we are so lucky to have him....patience in this case has been hard but I guess that is what we have to have....I don't like it but it is what it is. IMO.

That's good to know. Since there was so little being said by family, as I said above, I looked at Topix over a year ago, ( I know, I know) They had nothing nice to say about the sheriff of course. I read a few times trying to get a grip on the local's thoughts. But then I realized it was a forum for bashing everybody and nothing good could come of reading there. Do you know anything about the DA? I hope they are still looking for justice for Karen!

DA is a good man, hard worker and honest. As far as I know....it has just been reported a bank has been robbed in Dyersburg so don't know if that is true or not,lol....so much for living in small towns, lol.

Topix is horrendus but of course you can find some truth mixed among the crap,lol....I go there about every six months but can't take it for long, lol.

I agree that Sheriff Box's character and professionalism is beyond reproach, Nana46. Sheriff Box, the Dyer County Sheriff's Dept., the TBI, and the prosecutor only want to get justice for Karen Swift, and her family, while protecting the integrity of the investigation..
From my info and IMO, the very experienced prosecutor assigned to this case has recommended/ordered complete media silence.
Imo, the only press release that can be given is that the 'Case is is still under Investigation'..

Sadly, imo, this antiquated silence investigation and prosecution strategy is why there has been no arrest or prosecution in Karen Swift's murder almost two years later...

If you know, Nana46, is the area around the Habitat for Humanity house where Karen was cleaning, a high crime area?

My faith has been restored in TN LE since Donnie Brantley was finally arrested for the murder of Marsha, his wife. Her body hasn't been found yet. It took years but justice is coming for Marsha and Karen. However, without the TBI
Idk if DB would have ever been arrested.

If you know, Nana46, is the area around the Habitat for Humanity house where Karen was cleaning, a high crime area?

I am glad you mentioned this as I had forgotten it...I may not get time tonight or tomorrow but will try this week-end to look this up...see this is interesting.....if my memory is correct, the home she was cleaning was listed as being in Trimble,Tn....that is the town I grew up in...it is about 6 miles from me putting me in between Trimble and Dyersburg....I don't remember for the life of me there being a Habitat for Humanity house in Trimble.....at the time something is in the back of my brain telling me where this house is and if I am correct it is one of the streets I grew up on....I grew up on two streets....one from birth to 14 and from 14 to 18 on another street and it is this street that I think the house is. The town I live in now has had a couple of those houses but I just do not remember Trimble ever having one......it is a teeny town, very small BUT is about to be put on the map as a sloonshine is being erected there,lol...I don't know if you have ever heard of Michael Ballard, the owner of the establishment in Sturgis where all the bikers go...he is from Trimble...his father and relatives still live there....he came back and bought some land where the gin used to be and is building a distillery? Not sure what it is called....anyway, little history and news there,lol....I will dig and see if I can find out about the house....and no there is/was virtually no crime in that tiny town. I doubt very seriously anyone would have seen her there altho I guess they could and could have followed her at some point. IMO.
It is also interesting to note that even before the husband hired the high profile defense attorney, there were still no leaks on this investigation...I can assure you that with this guy on board now all t's will be crossed and all i's dotted....if you aren't familiar with this attorney, he was one of Mary Winkler's attorney's when she was on trial in McNairy County, TN....she got off with very little time.
Also to note, he had another regular attorney to begin with...the only reason he has another attorney is the original attorney had a horrific auto accident not too long after being hired and to my knowledge he is still in horrible shape....so he did not dump one lawyer to get a high profile one...the guy like I said had a horrific accident.
I do not know the Swift's.....I do know people that do.....I have never heard anything either way....and as I said early on, one of the sons was in college with someone I know. That is about all I know today except YES the bank was robbed,lol..........lordy.:seeya:

sophiebelle, just for the record, I wasn't implying that Karen Swift, was killed by a cult killer. Imo, KS may have just been at the wrong place at the wrong time. There is a meth epidemic in TN and, imo, due to KS's text messages, she may have traveled to Trimble, TN to complete the Habitat for Humanity job.

Holly Bobo was abducted over two years ago and a public safety warning was never issued by the TBI, nor will it be. This is SOP in TN; silence and perceived hypothesis by investigators; it's the norm and also the catalyst for the mounting TN missing/murdered person cold cases, imo..

sophiebelle, the divorce in the US is epidemic; upwards of 50% & climbing. Many divorces are due to the state of the economy/financial issues. It is not uncommon for spouses to live separate in the same household until other arrangements can be made; employment, start a business, etc... Karen Swift, was building her landscape/cleaning business prior to her death.

Perceived Hypothesis, IMO; 'The Swift home has been searched a minimum of 4 times'..

When asked if David Swift was a person of interest in the case, Box stated they have not been able to rule him out since the investigation started.

Women who knew Swift rule out possibility that she ran off on her own

Thursday, December 8, 2011

The two were working out on Tuesday, Oct. 25, when Swift said she was looking for some cleaning jobs. It just so happened that Hopper had a Habitat for Humanity house on Walnut Street in Trimble that was in bad need of a cleaning.

Karen Swift (middle) poses with two of her friends Cathy Bona (left) and Laura Gentry (right) after the Sam Bomar Memorial 5K Run/Walk in Jackson, Tenn. in June of this year. Bona and Gentry are just two of Swift's friends that say they have ruled out the possibility that Swift went missing on her own.

"It was perfect timing," said Hopper. "We were just talking and she said 'if you know anybody that has any cleaning jobs to give me a call'. It was a circumstantial coincidence that she asked me and I needed somebody to help clean up the house."
The house had been foreclosed on and Hopper described the inside as being in less-than-pleasant condition.

"It was really dirty," said Hopper. "There was a lot of work that needed to be done. I thought I was going to have to call a professional service it was so bad."

Hopper says this is when the two began to exchange text messages about Swift's new job as an aerobics instructor and the cleaning job.

* Thursday, Oct. 27, 2011

Swift - "OMG! I am loving Silver Sneakers."

Hopper - "Aren't they sweet?"

Swift - "Love them!"

Swift - "Did you go by the house?"

Hopper - "Yes it already looks better."

* Friday, Oct. 28

Swift - "OK I am about to set (bug)bombs off & lock up, been here since 7:30! I will have to come back. Got bathrooms to do. Mop also stove and fridge. Is Wednesday soon enough? I can tomorrow if you need me to. I work Monday and have a landscape job Tuesday."

* Saturday, Oct. 29, 2 p.m.

Hopper - "Don't worry about the fridge and stove. Getting new ones. Wednesday is fine. Great thanks! I will pay you as soon as possible."

Swift - "Hey, if I don't have to do fridge & stove. I will finish it early in the morning."

The last text Swift sent Hopper was referring to cleaning the house on Sunday morning (Oct. 30), the day she was reported missing.

Maybe I have tunnel vision, but how would her car end up right back near her house? I would think that would not be something that would enter a random killers mind. Maybe if someone would tell me what they think could have happened, I could see another side of this mystery. I have read so much on this case and I always come back to her car being so close to her home. Even with excluding a family member, I can only see someone who was very familiar with Karen.

BBM

Personally, I think it's a huge mistake for couples in the midst of divorce to continue living together. It's a known fact that the most dangerous time for a woman is when she is trying to leave a marriage because of control, or abuse, issues.

It's not clear that there was abuse, but I do think that there were control issues. That is, Karen was attempting to leave a marriage with her two daughters, leaving the husband with all the stuff that he thought made for a happy marriage. She was willing to give up her comfortable country-living lifestyle to earn money by cleaning abandoned houses, downsize to apartment living with her two daughters, and start a new life from scratch. That speaks volumes.

The courts in TN should recognize that even though abuse and control issues may not be spelled out in divorce documents, they are often there - just beneath the surface. It really doesn't take a genius to understand that if a marriage is falling apart, there are some serious problems between the two parties. TN laws should be modified to better financially protect women that have filed for divorce. The cases should be heard within 2 days of the papers being filed, and financial support should be immediately granted to the party that has been dependent throughout the marriage and who is leaving the marriage. If the courts want to take their time to more carefully review the documents (like a month or two), the orders can be modified at that time.
