Woodbine Theater at 2511 Nolensville Rd. Opened 1940. Had 740 seats. Has been demolished (it's listed as only "closed", but people in comments say it's gone and a bank is there now.. they are right.) I do not remember ever seeing such a place, but my memory only goes back so far.. nonetheless, it has not been there for quite some time. I don't know if it was there (and still open or closed, but with a different business) in 1969. But, this is definitely a place to attract a child's interest!

Although, some of the of the movies that played in 1969 (in the United States, not necessarily in this theater if it was even open) were not things a child could see. Such as Midnight Cowboy was out that year.

But, considering some of the child-friendly (in concept if not reality) places around the neighborhood, I have a feeling this place tended more to G-rated movies. But, I am really not sure what kind of movies they played. Originally, it was near an area that had something to do with the Navy and, thus did cater to people old enough to be in the Navy I would guess. However, I think places built for the war effort closed in the fifties and early sixties. There are definitely some that were still open in 1969 and even now.

Someone discoverd this in a phone book. A cinema guide lists it as being open still in 1950. So, it outlived WWII anyway.

Photos of Sing out South performing inside 100 Oaks Mall in 1969.

There is a Woolco to be seen in the background. That store crops up in more of these cold case murders... people waiting outside Woolco, Woolco being across the street. I guess there just must have been an awful lot of Woolcos at one time?

Yes, there were once many Woolco stores nationwide. Woolco was started in 1962 by the F.W. Woolworth dime store chain and expanded during the 1960's and 1970's.

December, my heart breaks for you. :(

You are so sweet. I just keep reminding myself that my friend's murder was solved after many years and her murderer is in prison for the rest of his life. Maybe the same will happen with Kathy. Many detectives have poured many, many hours of work into her case. It was the same with my friend.

I can remember Woolco, but I never realized they were so big at one time. I guess another thing is they were often an anchor store for a shopping center and a junior anchor at malls... so that accounts for many stores.

It is cool seeing the mall as Kathy would have seen it. I remember some of the stores that can be seen.

I returned to the cemetery today and took some friends who had a digital camera. At first, Kathy's grave was no where to be seen. Then I noticed a pile of leaves and began brushing them off. There was her plaque underneath. I'm glad I found her plot last week as I would have never found it today. The pink artificial flowers were gone possibly by the wind storm Thursday night.

As I mentioned earlier, her brother Kelly is buried close by. I hadn't noticed last week, but there is a photo of he & his wife on his headstone. Still haven't found Kathy's mother Nora's burial site yet.

Having trouble uploading the photos. Please bear with me.

OK....every time I try to upload an attachment, I get the message "upload failed". Any suggestions?

You can try uploading them to photobucket and linking. (It's free) I can never get pics to attach either!

I'm on pins and needles waiting for you to upload the pics that you took at the cemetery.

if you are on a phone that could be why. if you want to email them to me, then I will do it when I get back to a computer (my phone is iffy with this stuff, too).

however i have much luck using tiny pic. there is no need to make an account, you just upload to there and get either a URL or IMG thingie (there are three choices).

I so much appreciate you going to Kathy'gravesite today and cleaning it and taking the photographs. that is incredibly considerate of you to do.I appreciate your friend with the digital camera taking the time do do this for alll of us (me andWS and my family)

Thank you, Searchin'. It's wonderful that you were able to find Kathy's grave. I know we would all like to see the photos since we can't visit the cemetery in person.

Your image files might be too large to attach. Size limit is 1.9 mb and 1024 x 768. You can either resize them on your computer, or try an online app like Photobucket, tinypic or imageshack which will resize and generate a url. Instead of uploading the attachment from your computer, you can paste the url and upload from the host site. If file size isn't the problem, let me know in a pm and I'll be happy to help you with a solution. The same goes for anyone who needs help with the board's features. Don't ever hesitate to send a pm to a mod or admin if you need assistance.

Very good pics, Searchin'. What a nice thing for you to do -- for Kathy, for December, for all of us.

It is so sad to look at the fall leaves on the ground and realize that it was about this time of year that Kathy was killed, so many years ago now.

bessie! :seeya: Good to see you post!

I haven't been able to be on WS as much as usual in the past few days, but when I was, I noticed not seeing any posts from you, and I was worried. You were missed. I hope all is well.

(Now you probably feel as my daughter does since I started WSing -- "she is way too anxious/over-protective!", LOL)

Thank you Searchin' for getting the photos up.

I am so glad to see Kathy's marker again. It is sweet with the flowers and the inscription.

And, yes, it was about this time that dear Kathy was taken from us. And I mean all of us... this is how I feel about many murder victims... that the world maybe would be so much better with them still here with us.

And I have never been able to see Kelly's grave. I cried looking at his picture. I don't have any photos of Kelly. I can't believe he's gone.

Nora might be in the mausoleum rather than a regular grave. some of the sisters (Nora, Linda, Faye) chose that. They are on an upper row, straight back, I think.

Backwoods, sometimes I feel the same way if people aren't around on threads they usually check.
It's a thing.

:seeya: Back at ya, BW! I'm here. :)

Thanks so much for the pictures, Searchin'. I'm glad you captured the autumn leaves. Very poignant and sweet.

December, I can imagine how you feel.

nerosleuth told me about this case and I like December's posts here on WS so I'm definitely reading this. I'm still on page 3, so forgive me if I'm missing something.

First of all, I wanted to say I'm truly sorry for your (December's) loss and that of your family. I do hope you get some closure on this case eventually. This sounds like heinous crime and it should never happen, ever, much less to someone so young.

I've seen that you couldn't find some maps for Nashville from 1969. I tried to search since I often go on websites of historical maps. I haven't been able to find any 1969 maps but I'll keep looking on more sites and also try to find some from close years like 1970. The only map I've found is a topographical one, I can find it again if you like, but it doesn't show the streets and buildings in much detail, just main avenues and such.

However, I found this information here (it's .pdf file): http://www.library.nashville.org/lo...ial_collections_division_finding_aid_maps.pdf .

It's from the Nashville Library. They have a special collection of historical maps and if you look at the list in that file, this includes a few 1969 ones including street maps. I'm not familiar with the geography of Nashville so I wouldn't know which areas they cover by looking at the names but you might be able to tell. If you can go to the library or ask someone who can you may be able to get a photocopy of the maps you need. They say in some cases photocopies may not be possible (I assume for conservation reasons) but in those cases they'll usually allow you to use a digital camera to snap a pic of the map.

If you can't go there in person, you can try to ask them via e-mail if it would be possible for them to scan in the map or at least take a picture of the relevant areas. You might want to mention you're Kathy's cousin and want a map for reference, though if that makes you uncomfortable you can just make something up.

I've brought this up in case you want to go there or at least get in touch with them. If you can't or don't feel comfortable e-mailing them, I don't mind doing it. Just let me know.

Here's the link of the page with the e-mail form and live help chat: http://www.library.nashville.org/ask/ask_email.asp

I hope this helps! If not, I'm still going to keep reading and may be of more help once I'm done reading.
