MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Authorities returned to the apartment complex on Wednesday where Malynda Townsend disappeared, desperately searching for clues as to where the 18-year-old mother could be.

The young woman left her home in the 1900 block of Asa Drive Tuesday afternoon to get diapers for her 10-month-old child, but never returned.

She eventually made a call that has officers scrambling to find her. Townsend told an unidentified individual she had been kidnapped.

It’s believed the suspect who grabbed her was driving a red Cadillac CTS with Texas tags.

Townsend is described as being 5’6″ and100 pounds. She was last seen wearing black glasses with mint green handles, a black and white sweater, black tights and brown snow boots.

The mother of Townsend's boyfriend discovered the news Wednesday morning shortly after the City Watch was issued.

“She did not come back yesterday after she went to the store to get the baby some diapers,” Patricia Parker said. “Whoever you are, wherever y'all have her, please bring her home.”

The mother of Townsend’s boyfriend told WREG that her daughter, Kimauna Butler had been arrested, and she wasn’t sure if the arrests was related to Townsend’s disappearance.

Memphis Police confirmed that Butler’s arrest is connected to Townsend’s disappearance. Authorities also said that Townsend is still missing and is considered to be endangered.

After she was arrested, Butler told police Townsend was not a victim of kidnapping but was being used in a plot to get money.
