Man tries to kidnap 7-year-old girl twice at East Memphis apartments, records show

19-year-old Jeremiah Smith is charged with especially aggravated kidnapping after police said he grabbed the child from her bed on Nov. 6.

Police said they uncovered video that shows the suspect, later identified as 19-year-old Jeremiah Smith, carrying the girl away from her apartment.

Mighty bold to attempt to do that two times! Was he breaking in through a window or the door each time or was the front door left unlocked both times or?

I am unable to access the article, but what an evil person.

In my opinion, this might not be his first time taking a child, and there are some unsolved missing children cases from the past couple of years in Tennessee. I hope they already have a warrant to search his home, vehicle, phone, etc.

Cathey further advised that he tried to engage the suspect in conversation and “lure” him closer to the security cameras and stood about five or six feet from the suspect, getting “a good look at his face.” Cathey was then able to pick Smith out of a six-person lineup as the person who was at the victim’s home on Nov. 24.

It remains unclear how Smith was able to make entry to the seven-year-old’s apartment and bedroom. His motive is also unknown.

Smith is currently being held on a $150,000 bond and is due in court on January 15.
