This is good news!

You know, LE usually look at a husband, ex husband, or boy friend when a woman goes missing.

Case against missing woman's husband continued

...A plea was scheduled in Circuit Court Monday but Snider asked to continue the case until June 29 so she and Norton could review more details about the case...

...The fabricating evidence indictment accused Smith of using a vehicle with knowledge of its falsity to affect the outcome of an investigation. The fabricating evidence charge allegedly occurred the same day his wife’s SUV was found at Wal-Mart.

Regarding the false reports indictments, Smith was accused of making two statements to Murfreesboro Police Officer Bobby Edwards about incidents that didn’t occur the day the husband reported his wife’s disappearance...

...Palmer remains free on bond.

I sure hope they come up with enough to put this old 🤬🤬🤬 away for the rest of his miserable life.

Looks like him?

yes...

Can you positively identify him from this photo?

No.

Can you convict the man beyond a reasonable doubt by just this photo?

No.

I would have a hard time sending him to prison if this is all the evidence they have against him.

I am betting they have more on him.I found it strange that there was a bogus letter sent in about where the wife is buried just a few weeks after the cold case squad went on air. Perhaps he sent something in that has his prints on it or somethingl.

pretrial motion hearing today

Judge to determine whether evidence can be heard at trial

The husband of a missing Murfreesboro woman will be in court today in connection with her disappearance almost two years ago.

Palmer Smith, 73, reported his wife, Marcie, missing in December 2007 and now faces charges of fabricating evidence and four counts of filing a false police report.

A Rutherford County Circuit Court judge will decide today if certain evidence and testimony will be allowed at the trial, scheduled for sometime in 2010.

Among that evidence is an allusion to a prior domestic violence assault charge brought against Palmer Smith in Tipton County in West Tennessee a number of years before Marcie Smith's disappearance.

Mr. Smith still hasn't been charged in Marcie's disappearance. Maybe this trial will help with that. My fingers are crossed.

Trial date, DNA evidence debated in disappearance case

Palmer Smith defense attorney Libbi Snider told Judge Don Ash she’ll file a motion to reschedule the Oct. 13 trial to a later date based on DNA evidence collected by the District Attorney General’s office from the defendant’s blood and from a Lincoln Navigator.

There's DNA evidence? Wow! I haven't heard that before. Maybe, just maybe, there will someday be justice for Marcie.

Thanks, christine.

There was another tidbit in the news today that I found interesting. The judge ordered Palmer Smith to give up two tubes of his blood. Investigators want to compare Smith's DNA to that found in his wife's SUV.

Investigators also want to compare Smith's DNA with evidence taken from the so-called "body map":

Smith turned the map over to police last year. He said someone sent it to him, claiming the map pointed to the location of his wife's body in east Tennessee.

Police searched, but found nothing. They wonder if DNA will tell them if Smith mailed that letter to himself.

Unless there is a delay, Smith is scheduled on October 13 to go on trial for lying to police.

"There's unidentified DNA within the vehicle that the TBI does not know who it belongs too," said Norton.

and

Norton said a special agent told him unknown female DNA was found on the steering wheel and upon the dog leash recovered from the Lincoln Navigator.

and

Marcie Smith's cell phone was found dumped on the side of the road. Norton said Marcie and Palmer Smith's prints were both found on the phone, but that there may be a third print that doesn't match either one of those.

Criminal Trial Set For Husband Of Missing Woman

http://www.newschannel5.com/Global/story.asp?S=11800172

By Nick Beres

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. - The husband of a missing Murfreesboro woman did not reach a plea deal with prosecutors Monday in court and his case is set for trial next week.

Marcie Smith's body has never been found. Her husband Palmer is not charged with murder. Prosecutors believe he lied to them the day his wife Marcie disappeared two years ago.

Police charged Palmer Smith with several counts of fabricating evidence and filing a false report.

The only hard piece of evidence in the case is surveillance video from a WalMart parking lot. It shows a person pulling a bicycle from Marcie's Lincoln Navigator and riding away.
<snip>

More details at link. He's not being tried for Marcie's murder (yet!) but this is better than nothing. Maybe more details will come out at the trial and Marcie will finally get the justice she deserves. I hope so. This is one case I cannot get out of my mind.

He's not in jail for killing Marcie but at least he's in jail.

Maybe someday...

Secret surveillance video, a detailed body map, and a missing woman. It's all part of the mystery surrounding Marcie Smith.

Her husband Palmer Smith was the lone suspect in her disappearance. Detectives always believed he killed his wife, but couldn't prove it.

Now Palmer has died, and there was no deathbed confession.
