Martha Leanne Green

Martha Leanne Green, 17, was one day away from prom night at Dickson County High School when she disappeared on April 15, 1987. She and her twin brother were driving down Highway 46 near I-40 when their car ran out of gas about a half-mile down the road.

Her brother went to get gas and she decided to stay with the car. When he got back to the car nine minutes later, she was gone. In a 2021 interview, Cheatham County Sheriff Mike Breedlove, who worked for the TBI at the time, said police were “pretty sure” it was a “stranger abduction.”

However, even though there were witnesses, followed by searches and possible suspects identified over the years, detectives never found Green. Breedlove said over 1,000 leads were run, and three suspected serial murderers or rapists were confirmed in the area that night.

Green, who was described as 5’6″ tall with brown hair and brown eyes, was last seen wearing a white shirt, faded blue jeans and white tennis shoes. She would be 52 today.

If you have seen Green, contact the Dickson County Sheriff’s Office at (615) 789-4130, or the TBI at 1-800-TBI-FIND.

I also believe that she was kidnapped at gunpoint, knife or threat, so there is nothing to indicate a fight in the car. Thinking that no one drove through the area, the murderer was nearby lurking in case someone was walking through the area or better luck. even a car stopped in the dark night... her body may be near the area it's hard to get her out of the area so quickly although there are discrepancies between the charley project and the doe network the former says a family of 4 appeared at the time that they were detained and offered their help, Martha's twin agreed to go with them to get to the gas station but on the doe network it says that he walked alone down the road... how many records and clues are always lost...
whatever it was rest in peace

Trace Evidence Podcast just released an episode about Martha's disappearance.
On a cold, rainy spring night in April of 1987, seventeen year old Martha Leanne Green mysteriously vanished. After the car she and her brother were driving ran out of gas, Leanne remained behind in the car while her brother went to get help. Returning less than fifteen minutes later, the car was empty and Leanne has never been seen again.

Investigators determined the seventeen year old had been abducted and several suspects were identified. One, in particular, was thought to have taken Leanne and committed similar crimes throughout the area. Law enforcement never collected enough evidence to charge the man and he took his secrets to his grave.

What happened to Leanne Green? Was she abducted by a stranger or perhaps taken by someone she knew and believed she could trust? Or did the seventeen year old encounter a ruthless and brutal killer all alone on a dark, deserted highway?

''On April 15, 1987, Lawson Green went to pick up his twin sister Martha Leanne Green from her job at the Holiday Inn on Highway 46.

Lawson’s car ran out of gas on the highway that rainy evening. Leanne, 17, opted to stay with the car while her brother went to get more gas. He was gone no more than 15 minutes, but it was enough time for his sister to vanish.
Her purse and personal belongings remained.''

''Robert Richards confessed, then recanted, and confessed and recanted again.''
