:silenced:

My mind keeps going to the underlying motive and outcome of the Erin Corwin and Heather Elvis cases :kickcan:

:sigh:

But it didn't seem appropriate as to timing yet to discuss on threads. Perhaps it is now... not sure if folks wanna go there.
One thing to remember, take it or leave it.. We know ET's sister is participating and for me, I can't discuss those things unless she says it is ok with her. We always know family can be reading, but is is different, for me at least, when they join in the convo.

I don't want to discuss things that are really too much for her to bear and her disappear. If nothing else, it has to be a support for her to know none of us are like the people around the town that are ok with TC.

We also have a victim here, among us and we know it, so I've tried to tread lightly.

"Our kidnapping statute says in essence through it's silence on that issue. It's saying that you can be between 13 and 18 and you can legally make the mature decision to leave your family and run off with a person never to be seen again."

http://whnt.com/2017/03/26/tennessee-law-could-protect-suspected-kidnapper-of-elizabeth-thomas/

I really appreciate the link to this.

After reading, it sounds as if there is no law approving the action but, rather, no law making it illegal.

In addition, you can understand why LE must consider this a kidnapping to legally justify the AA and support additional prosecution.

This was a great help and I appreciate it.

The above is my opinion only.

Oh man... I hope you are wrong. I don't think they had -I cant even write this without squirming- been sexually intimate. I think the main reason ET was looking up teenage marriage is to assure herself that if they were married then sex was ok (we know it's not). Son, my theory is that she would not "consent" to sex until they were, somehow, "married".

Pretty sure it was TC looking up teen marriage not ET. I will have to find a link to confirm this.

Do we know who the legal owner is of the Nissan?

If it's just him, wouldn't he be the only one who could report it stolen to activate the tracking?

If it's just his wife, she could report it stolen but we don't know if she'd be willing to do that. I do believe it would add theft to his list of charges.

If they own it jointly, she'd still have to report it stolen.

We believe that is likely the car he got the loan on, but we aren't positive. Also taking it to a shop, I can't see them checking to see if you are the legal owner.

If there is something that can be activated, I'm sure the cops/TBI/FBI could have gotten that done.

The victim blaming comment and the romance comment makes me think that what has been said about many teachers, students and possibly parents, is very likely true.

What I don't understand, is even if a "romance" I do not see adults supporting this. They know a kid can not make that type of clear decision. The kids, yes I can see some of them being ok with it, but not a single adult.

Instagram posts - ugh! So desperate and concerning imo.
We have to do a better job of teaching our young that developing self-esteem is an every individual boy or girl's job.
It does not develope from the outside in but from the inside out.

When my boy was 15-16 (a full two years!), he was "in love" with a girl who was making him miserable.
I had to pay close attention and think of ways to hold his hand through it without letting him know that's what I was doing!
It was painful to watch him struggle. A parent must remain present even when the kid is pushing you away.

The you complete me idea is bunk. You can listen to me, support me, help me, share a good time with me but, you cannot complete me. Because, you are probably flawed too and will not be able to meet all my expectations. Then, I have to know how to help myself, entertain myself, get busy helping someone else.
Somewhere along the line, these concepts are getting lost.

On a different note, I was taken aback upon learning about the waist trainer. Fifteen years old and worried about the size of her waist when she already has a cute figure. Our society must be returning to the Victorian era. Unbelievable.

So if ET & TC are found and she wants to stay him... That's it?

During the press conference they stated that her going willingly was not an option be wise regardless it was kidnapping. But this kind of contradicts that.

snipped from link below:

As it stands, to prove the kidnapping of a victim who is 14 or older, (District Attorney) Cooper said, he'd have to prove that Elizabeth was falsely imprisoned, unlawfully removed or had her freedom restricted.

Further, to prove that Elizabeth was unlawfully removed, he'd need to prove to a jury that Cummins employed "force, coersion, fraud or something to that effect," the prosecutor said.

"What we run into here, of course, is this child is 15 and, according to reports, at least initially, she left of her own free will," he said.

The issue was especially concerning at the outset of the investigation, Cooper said. Cummins was charged only with sexual contact with a minor by an authority figure, a misdemeanor, and investigators worried that if police stopped the pair out of state, they'd be released because authorities couldn't detain them, let alone extradite Cummins, on a misdemeanor warrant.

Cooper ultimately felt comfortable adding the aggravated kidnapping charge after deciding that Cummins allegedly groomed his victim and was armed, the latter being a prerequisite for aggravated kidnapping.

"Under current law, it's really going to depend what the testimony of Ms. Thomas is," Cooper said, explaining that if she claims she left on her own fruition, the defense will argue Cummins is not guilty of kidnapping.

Cooper will then have to introduce circumstantial evidence that Elizabeth was coerced, and to be clear, the district attorney is confident the communications between Elizabeth and Cummins demonstrate "he was definitely trying to influence her in his favor," he said.

Can you link the page? What we saw on the AA page is it was clearly TN and AL only two days ago. People aren't getting alerts for it.

It is my understanding that it is a national Amber Alert. It is on the National Amber Alert page and the FBI are involved.
If that's the case why have I not gotten an alert in FL it's so aggravating if the alert was more wide spread would there have been a credible tip by now

TN state law, someone posted about it after I commented about it.

Sent from my SM-N920T using Tapatalk

There is no TN state law making it legal for a minor to run away with an adult, as has been reported here.

Instead, the lack of a law making it illegal, in essence, makes it legal.

The above is my opinion only.

The Amber Alert has only gone out to AL and TN. It is listed on the site. This stops notifying all phones and stops highway signs from carrying the info. I wish they would make it nationwide now.

I know where you are going with that... and i think we probably are getting ahead of ourselves with that (or at least I hope we are). I think it was the investigation at the school that pushed for this to happen, not the other.

OT. I'm still pizzed we are getting nowhere with the Heather Elvis case. UGH.

I believe that gets into the legal aspects of duress. Also, did she willing go under a false pretense.

I think there are ways to legally prosecute the kidnapping charge.

The above is my opinion only.

You are parsing words. It is perfectly legal according to TN for her to leave willingly and never be made to return home.

I'm in MD. I have turned the news on here and there throughout the day for the past few days. I have not seen it on the news at all. And I am the only person on my SM accounts who have shared the story. It's disheartening to think how many people have no idea!

The one thing that might matter is also him crossing state lines and it being a federal issue due to that.

Family of Elizabeth Thomas hold back tears while describing how Tad Cummins invaded their lives before kidnapping girl

In an interview with Good Morning America, Elizabeth Thomas’ 17-year-old sister, Sarah Thomas, tried to stop her tears from flowing as she described how Tad Cummins, 50, began making the family, especially Elizabeth, extremely uncomfortable by showing up to her home unannounced and uninvited.

Meanwhile, on Monday, Cummins’ wife, Jill Cummins, spoke out for the 2nd time. She told NBC that no one understands the shock and pain she’s going through, and she wants nothing more than for her husband to return Elizabeth.

This has honestly been my thought the entire time. I am hard pressed to think watching a TV episode and a couple of internet searches for "off the grid living" could adequately prepare him. Factor in a 15 yo female and the chances for long term camping/hiding etc are even lower, IMO.

My guess is Mexico as a missionary or having outside help. Could be combo of both? $4500 will not last forever and as we know, additional funds are not forthcoming from any missionary type programs.

ETA- MOO

My theory has been an escape to Central America and using the missionary cover as needed. Keep moving every few months and that works for quite sometime until you can establish a new life.

The above is my opinion only.
