"I can't explain what he's done. Something has happened psychologically and mentally to cause what he's done," she said.

"I strongly believe that something is wrong with him, because the brother and man I know would never do something like this."

From same article...

When asked if he expressed regret for what he had done, she paused.

"No. Not necessarily," she said. "I don't think he knew this would happen or realized he would be in this much trouble."

A lot of teens, at some point during those years, say they don't want to live with their parents. Some say they hate their parents, their parents ruin everything, etc. This happens in healthy homes, IMO. So I'm not really surprised, considering her background, that she said those things.

Yeah, but not too many of them run off with their teacher, and then refuse to come home. And if the kids hate their parents, I'm not sure that is the sign of a healthy home.

Oh, FGS, unless he is lying, no more saying he's smart. We've had more examples than I can think of to figure out he's a complete moron.

We're just speculating on something we have zero reliable information on. I would imagine she would hold to the fantasy of Toad as her beast protector and imagine it's real love. And for her feelings for her family, all indications were she loved her father and was close to him (reportedly his favorite child) and to a number of her siblings. We don't really know anything else. I would guess she might want to be away from her family so she is free to call Toad. Total guess.

Wondering if the fraud part could help nail him in TN since he lied to her about being a millionaire/CIA etc...

Tennessee law allows children older than 12 to decide whether to leave their families unless their removal or confinement "is accomplished by force, threat or fraud."

That's it tha'ts the defense. They are going to flip this onto ET it was her seducing him and manipulating him. They are going to throw ET under the bus and expect that she can't/won't testify. Still may not work but that's the strategy IMO

And was that using the local Cortez, CO in store available prices?

I can find them online walmart cheap but not in store that cheap. Maybe I'm wrong though.

Good point! I did some checking on Brickseek which has a Walmart inventory checker that's fairly reliable (sometimes it's off due to theft or poor inventory management) and the cheapest I saw was SKU 42608098 for $499. Use zip code 81321.

However, if you try SKU 30146248, you'll see one that says $199 but a quantity of 0. In my experience, this means that they *did* have them at some point but are now out of stock. Perhaps TC lucked out and found one on clearance? Unlikely but possible. But let's just assume he spent $500+ on the iPad because that's far more likely.

If you want to check anything yourself on Brickseek, you can find the SKU on Walmart's website, it's the number just after the name of the item in the URL.

Yet the Daily Mail is usually right. We will see, but the TV report the other day showed that ET's room is still empty. Which would seem to collaborate the Daily Mail's report that ET doesn't want to go home.

Here's the problem with rumors, they always have a grain of truth to them. Like any good lie, you have to have a bit of truth, something to make it believable, so people will spread it as truth and find ways to support it. ET's room is still empty because she's at a mental hospital receiving treatment. Although it hasn't been stated, this is most likely for her safety. Does she want to go home? Probably not. She's 15, she's been bullied, she's got a mother who's going to court for abusing her and other than her family, not much for her to return to. I mean the way this has been portrayed in both the media and the way it's been handled, I really think she'd be smart in not wanting to return to that town. Do you think she's safe in that town? We're 18 pages in and while the majority support JC as a victim, only a small number of us support ET as a victim. We're a fairly random sampling, and we're all here because we support victims and I've been stunned at how many are still not getting it. So if we're a representation of her community, she needs to stay away from home and I'm quite sure she doesn't wish to return home any time soon. As far a friend who says ET is still in love with TC? Perhaps that's true. Sexual activity somehow does bind people, and she's been taught to love people who hurt her. Did a friend come to see her? Probably not. Was this twisted to make it salacious? Yes. A Lolita sells more papers and gets women clicking their tongues more than a real story about grooming a vulnerable victim and raping her. That kind of thing is a bit too complex for the average short attention span reader. So they make up a story, sprinkle a little bit of truth here and there to make it hold water and there you have it. This is why they typically keep victims of this kind of crime out of the press and keep the victims from money hungry people who would sell their mother's out if they could make a dime. Here's something to hold in your holster for the next time, victims of this nature do form a bond with their abductor, even more so if they've been groomed by their abductor and it's not uncommon for them to want to go back to them. It's hard to understand, but then it's hard to understand why a man who is 50 years old with a loving wife, two beautiful daughters and grandchildren with his dream career and an amazing support group of friends, family and even strong religious affiliations would throw it all away for what amounts to something he could have relieved on his own with a magazine and a tissue. At any rate, this is a rumor that is fraught with some facts to make it seem more than it is. Additionally, this is a young child who is trying to understand what happened, she's trying to make sense out of someone who she loved hurting her (make that several people who she loved who hurt her) and she's trying to figure out her life from here on. Do you know that people who are depressed will often say they feel like they're in the bottom of a well all alone? And they want to stay there? They have no desire for sunshine, smiles and flowers. Being in the bottom of dank, dark well all alone is preferable. Gives you something to think about, doesn't it?

Or she could be receiving treatment, which IMO she needs long term. We don't know where she is, and that's a good thing.

Whether or not she wants to be home does not change her status as a victim. JMO.

Oh pfft. Leave it to you to take my long winded post and sum it up in two lines. :)

Wow results of TC hearing on Friday. Lots of new details. Admits to having sex most nights. Bought a tablet and a two person kayak planned to paddle to Mexico from Coronado Island in San Diego. Changed license plates in two states and threw cell phones in Tennessee River much more here.

Video and article CNN

Wondering if the fraud part could help nail him in TN since he lied to her about being a millionaire/CIA etc...

Tennessee law allows children older than 12 to decide whether to leave their families unless their removal or confinement "is accomplished by force, threat or fraud."

It would depend on what he told her in relation to making her believe he was CIA. For instance, if an adult walks up to a child and says "I'm Officer Soandso, you're mother and father have been in an accident and you need to come with me" that's fraud. In large part because any reasonable child presented in that scenario would do the same and the criminal is presenting himself as LE in a fraudulent manner. So if TC had convinced ET he was CIA and somehow used that story line to convince her to go with him, then yes that would be fraud. Here's the thing, if what we're hearing is true, if he did indeed tell her that her life was over, the town hated her, she would never go to college and she had no other recourse than to go away with him and start her life over somewhere else, than that constitutes threat and force. If he further used his story of being CIA as larger part of that threat, than yes it could play in. Given the timing of the whole thing, I've wondered if he didn't tell her she'd have to testify against her mother and he used that as a ploy to make her feel she needed to leave when they did. It was clear she was conflicted about leaving, hiding from him at work. But anyway, the answer to your question is that it depends. :)

I don't think in most cases they actually hate their parents. Teenagers can be very dramatic. My point is that it's not uncommon for teens to say they don't want to live with their parents.

Also, she didn't "run off" with him.

Good post, and lol, much to be gleaned from what you call later a long winded post.

BBM above, I just want to interject.

Folks will "read into" others posts perhaps, and not take it the way it is meant by the poster.

Myself, I've tried in the past not to even comment on her being willing, as I think she was, as I was thinking other posters would come at me thinking I was victim blaming. In the beginning of the threads, I think it was REALLY taboo to even discuss or post such a thought. Now, it seems more acceptable for discussion thank goodness, as it may absolutely be the reality.

From the beginning, I was just wanting to say that I understood where she might be coming from, but hesitated at I thought I might be a TO for not being victim friendly. Folks who tried to convey in threads at the very beginning of these threads were pushed back on.

Therefore, I've tried lately just to post articles and not comment (which is hard to do lol)

I have seen posts, as you have, that state that she went willingly etc. That she may have/still does feel "in love" with him. I so identify with that at her age, and want to speak more to it from personal experience - but hesitated from the beginning and still do. I guess it's due to life experiences that seem similar to hers that I'm feeling so much empathy and understanding for her, and it upsets me so much that this is now not a private matter. But that cow is outta the barn for sure.

Please know that many that express that she was willing, they perhaps are NOT condoning or victim blaming nor supporting what he did. It is illegal, he is a teacher, and he took advantage etc etc. They just are empathizing and understand perhaps where she is coming from.

That perhaps, SHE doesn't see herself as a victim of Tad.... perhaps SHE sees herself as a victim with EVERYONE else. And folks perhaps just don't end their opinions with the disclaimer of "I know she is a victim of Tad, who should be prosecuted".

Gosh, I wish that Jaycee's organization or Elizabeth's would whisk her away.

:moo: :cow:

ETA: "I know she is a victim of Tad, who should be prosecuted".

more details:

The week before, Cummins had met with ET at the restaurant parking lot to plan their departure.

Cummins had also visited websites about teenage marriages, searched for mattresses that would fit inside his Nissan Rogue and watched a YouTube video on how to dismantle a car GPS system.

On the day he left, he cleaned out a lockbox in his home of $4,500 and two guns and left his wife a note saying he was heading to Virginia Beach or maybe Washington, D.C., to “clear my mind of this crap.”

After picking ET up at the Shoney’s parking lot on March 13, Cummins drove south on Interstate 65 and headed to Decaturville, Ala., where he and ET each threw their cellphones into the Tennessee River.

Cummins dismantled his in-car GPS system and replaced his license plate with an Alabama tag taken from an abandoned car. He then drove the pair to Birmingham before spending their first night in Mississippi.

From Mississippi, Cummins headed northwest to Oklahoma City for the night, where the pair were caught on surveillance video at a Walmart, although authorities would not see the video until two weeks later. They spent two nights in Oklahoma at Super 8 motels before reaching Colorado, where they spent another two nights.

In Cortez, Colo., Cummins bought a tablet from Walmart to be able to view news coverage about ET’s disappearance. Cummins also reportedly admitted to seeing the plea from his wife, who spoke at a press conference on March 17 asking her husband to “do the right thing.”

It’s in Colorado that Cummins decided on pseudonyms and new identities for the pair. They become a married couple, 40-year-old John and 24-year-old Joanne Castro. Cummins told investigators he chose a Spanish-sounding name because he planned to go to Mexico.

Heading west, they spend three or four nights in Utah, a night in Nevada and then landed in San Diego where Cummins purchased a $1,500 two-seater kayak to boat into Mexico.

While testing the kayak in Coronado Bay, he ran into a law enforcement officer who gave them tips about the boat. He and ET were out on the water when that same officer came out to warn them the water was rough. Cummins assumed they’d been found out and became scared.

Cummins decided against heading to Mexico by land, saying the political environment made it “too hot.” Instead they drove to “Slab City”, a commune in the Sonoran Desert in southern California, where Cummins slept with his gun because he was concerned about their safety. It’s not known how long they stayed before they began travelling north.

They then drove north, stopping in Los Angeles to sell the kayak at a bar. By the time they reached Cecilville in northern California, Cummins was running out of money.

Random thoughts here.
Was with you to the end. For me no way did I want to stay in severe depression. I felt like I was always trying to claw my way out. Exhausting. Frustrating. However, fruitless. People said it is a choice. Not for me. I knew it. Through the years I got better, though. Just happened. Very thankful.
ET is very young and many of us can't fathom why people don't see her as such. I know I was not mature at 15. Maybe there are those who were. I just don't know them.
But, anyways, by 50 it's 'a definite' that your maturity is there and you know right from wrong. He leans towards pedophilia imo and that's why the family can't figure it out. Sex things are very hidden from others often. And in response to 'challenges can make you stronger'. True. For some. But many it can break. My daughter once said to me, "I'm not you." That really stuck with me through the years. What that means to me is that not everyone processes things the same. Life is complex. No two experiences identical. No one can fully understand mcet's experiences or pain. We can only try.
If I was 15 and fell in love with a guy and was intimate, then found out later that he didn't really love me it would be a huge blow. One more HUGE depressing thing to add to your other depressing things in your life. Rejection is one of the biggest factors in depression. Even years later it can bother you. Why didn't I see that? Why was I so dumb? But at 15 she can't see that. She is needy for love. Absolutely.
But she's young. It's not the end of the road for her. I just hope she can get a healing from these adult created experiences in her life. She is surrounded with help so her prognosis can be very excellent.

I hope I don't cross any lines but it is jmo.
I wonder if MCET had any mental disorders that were discovered while in treatment. It could extend her stay for that reason as well. I'm sure she has PTSD from her mom. Hopefully she is getting all the help she needs to move forward in a positive light.

After everything she's been through, if she didn't have any before, she most likely does now. From the hell her mom put her through to the victimization of TC, this girl needs a long, long time around mentally balanced, healthy people that genuinely have the skills to get her into a healthy place again..

Thanks Mom24you made me think and said a lot of great things. I like your explanation. She needs a new town, new name, new family when she is ready, to give her a fair chance in life....still with medical support in MOO.
