GUILTY TN - MCET, 15, Abducted by Teacher, in Maury County, 13 March 2017 #19

Thank you for this! I guess when I read "family", my mind automatically goes to wife/husband. Wasn't even thinking of extended family/children.
Grown daughters and sister were in denial when they appeared in that TV interview early on. Daughters said they couldn't have asked for a better father. I hope Jill, the ex-wife, is doing well. It can't be easy for her.

Ok, BH files a sealed motion to quit the case on Jan. 11. The judge had ordered the "no contact" ruling on Jan 9. That means that it took 2 whole days for BH to try and contact MCET, for the prosecution to find out and launch the investigation, for BH to learn about the investigation and then file a sealed motion to quit the case. Either this the most efficient bunch of lawyers, or BH lied and is hiding something.

"He would not discuss the timing of his attempts to reach the girl or the*reason he might be under federal investigation"

Unreal. At this point, TC's best shot is to take the plea deal, if indeed there is a plea deal, and make sure that he gets credit for time served. Because otherwise, there will just be more motions, and more delays. And there is no defense for what he did. There's a .001% chance that a jury would vote for acquittal. Optimistically.

Nothing is 100% certain, but in this case, there is video and witness evidence that he transported a minor out of state. Even if his attorney succeeds in getting his confession thrown out, the evidence is very clear.

There was no proof of murder in Caylee's case. They could have gotten a conviction for a lesser crime. However, the burden was not met to prove murder. It's just a fact. The jury was right, no matter how much we hate it.

In this case there is electronic evidence, recorded calls in which he confesses, multiple witnesses and who knows what else. It's just not as murky as Caylee's murder was.

The new trial date was set for Aug. 21. Judge Aleta Trauger also set his pre-trial motions date for May 4.

He appeared yesterday in court dressed in a grey striped prison jumpsuit and his goatee now full grey. He was seen nodding a few times and making eye contact with his family, who was also in court.

There were also motions to suppress evidence, but Cummins’ attorney told the court he wasn’t prepared to argue that Thursday.

The trial is expected to last about a week and a half.

The Maury County Board of Education will discuss its contract with Superintendent Chris Marczak and the agreement’s potential termination at a meeting this week.

In June of 2017, Maury County’s Chapter of SOCM, a statewide organization for community empowerment, called for the superintendent to step down.

The organization’s members said the superintendent and his administration failed to inform parents when Tad Cummins and ET allegedly were seen kissing at Cullekoa Unit School in January 2017.

That was before Cummins allegedly kidnapped Thomas on March 13, 2017, which sparked a nationwide manhunt for the two.

Tonight’s Law & Order: SVU was loosely based on this case with, um, a rather shocking twist that we can all be thankful wasn’t part of ET’s life.

The teacher was also a family friend, and seduced the girl’s mom 17 years earlier. Yup, turns out the mom was hiding the secret that the girl was the result of an affair, so there was an incest angle too. :/

Didn't you love the part where the teacher was supposed to testify but doesn't show, then the police go ask the wife and she tells them that her husband had left a note, saying he had to "clear his mind"? Yeah, I actually laughed out loud at that one, this completely involuntary barking laugh. It was so obviously pulled from the real life case.

Was the guy as "mangy" ratty as Tad?
Can't wait till the moment she sees him again as an old man and what her future would have been.
Last report his beards was grey that he colored on the road.

The very fact that this kind of utter depravity is the inspiration for "art' or entertainment, should really horrify us as a culture.

The fact that it DOESN'T, horrifies me.
