In 2017, the TN AG set up a task force to investigate cold cases, including this one. That's good, hopefully it means more info will come out soon.

I’m wondering about the tattoo...I found a “Mickey Poteet” in the Polk County High School (Benton, TN) yearbooks for 1975 and 1976 (so far). Maybe that could be him and his nickname was “Mickey”. Would explain the tattoo...

There's a Michael Anthony Petitt, Sr., who was born in 1941, married in 1959 in WV, and died in 1976 in Hawaii at age 35. At that time, there were two children "in the home," including Michael Anthony Petitt, Jr. It's not at all clear to me that this is the same person (age would be iffy, assuming he was born after his parents' marriage--this missing person would have been born around 1958-1959), but, if so, this could be why there's no one by that name in the Polk County High School yearbooks. There is someone else by that name of a very similar age (born ~1960) currently residing in Missouri, which could be the son of Michael Anthony Petitt, Sr.
