Deceased/Not Found TN - Nichole Burgess, 36, Hermitage, 23 May 2014 *C. Cannon guilty*

This is so sad! I feel so bad for the little boy. His mother is presumed dead, his father is considered a POI in her presumed death, and now he's in the Children’s Services system. He's only 10-years old -- he must be so confused and scared! This brings tears to my eyes and breaks my heart . I hope and pray he has a loving responsible family member to take care of him.

Me too. The children are always the innocent victims in these instances. I really hope he is taken in by family members he knows. This hurts my heart. I've been searching for her. I've also kept it in the back of my mind, that this is a recovery mission.

Just a question. I heard that she had TWO sons? Anyone else heard this as well?

Neighbor Lisa Hatmaker said the Cannons have always been friendly, but everyone in the area mostly keeps to themselves.

"It was a shock to hear what the reasoning was that they (law enforcement) were here. You just don't think of people of that nature in this little country place," Hatmaker said.

Detectives have traveled to Anderson County several times over the past week as part of the investigation and served a search warrant on Cannon for a DNA sample earlier this week.

Good Morning,

I just watched an update on Channel 2 out of Nashville this morning, where they showed, they are actively searching now the area where the POI lives. He was standing outside watching them.

It struck me deep in the heart this morning, when they showed the outside of her duplex, and her lights are still on. Neighbors found it strange and called that in. It was like she was home.

I am reminded of a case from Livingston/Overton County Tn, where Jennifer Cornell was kidnapped and murder. In this case her oldest child's father was convicted and given a life sentence. All over child support. He kidnapped her broad daylight, as she was going to work. Found her car running in the middle of the street, with doors wide open.
The person who did this, borrowed a truck from someone. They found her on his family's property in a sink hole. It was devastating to say the least. I won't go into details of what he did to her. Over child support!!

I still have hope that Nikki will be found, I am praying that she is found!

You will find a pic of the POI standing there watching the search.

6 News also caught up with one of Burgess' best friends from Crossville. Robert Underwood set up a candleight vigil at Cumberland County High School's football field earlier this week.

Burgess' father, Bill, said she was planning on moving back to the Crossville area at the time of her disappearance. Friends say they're remaining positive despite investigators' beliefs that she may be dead.

"We're kind of a little more than shocked today. The weight has hit us a little more and we're still kind of trying to hold out hope until, you know, the body is found," said Underwood.

I hope their 10 year old son wasn't a witness to anything awful that may have happened to his mother! Poor thing. I hope they find her.

From this article I get the impression that the son was at school when Burgess disappeared, was injured, or worse.

Officials say Cannon, who had visitation privileges with the child every other weekend, picked him up from school later that afternoon, then went to Burgess' home in Hermitage. Burgess was not there.

I wonder how long they stayed at the home and/or where they went to later in the evening before returning to Anderson county. I hope the boy wasnt along for the disposal of his mothers body, then again he may have important information that could help LE find her body. (I hate writing this)
Cannon then took the child to Anderson County later in the evening.

I think LE knows from evidence found in her home that Nicole is no longer alive. They have stated as such but there must be something very concrete IMO to make this grim statement to the judge, her family, friends and media.

Sad and so senseless. This poor boy, I hope he has much love and support from other family. I always hurt for the kids involved.

The 10 year old son was the one who was missing for a week, right?

Sounds like a break in this case is very, very close.

Anybody know what kind of vehicle he has and what color ?

Sounds like it may be silver or grey according to the neighbor.

If it is, then that's our guy. It's pretty easy to figure out why it would have been backed in and out of view of prying eyes.

I'll bet the kid either saw it happen or heard it through a wall or a door.
My guess would be that whatever the kid told the cops is why the sudden
conclusion , with almost certainty, that she is dead.

Excerpt: On the same day, police said, Cannon went to pick up their son from school and went to Burgess' home on Oak Vale Drive. They then went to Anderson County later that evening as part of the custody agreement between Burgess and Cannon.

The Tennessee Department of Children's Services now has custody of the 10-year-old, police said.

It sounds like to me that Cannon picked the kid up at school and then went over to her house. He may have witnessed the entire thing, or heard it.

In the article I linked above it states that Cannon picked the son up at school and then went to the Burgess home and Burgess was not there.

The article said she wasnt there... (most likely the son was witness to his mother being gone) I am thinking along the lines of this happened during the school day while the son was away (I pray) and after Cannon picked him up at school they went back to the house to get his things and maybe even create his alibi.
Hope you can follow my reasoning and thoughts, just throwing it out there. I am pretty confident that LE will have this wrapped up, and hope & suspect Cannon will confess and tell where Ms Burgess is. That IMO is the least he can do now for his son, give the mother a proper burial and save the rest of the family from suffering for a prolonged period.

BTW, does this Cannon have a record of any kind?

Wideopen, I agree with your thinking. The older son also posted in the beginning that his little brother and mother were missing. Makes me think he is not in contact with Cannon, he later posted that his brother was with his father but his mother is missing. IMO I think family or friends had to tell him where his brother was.

Either way works for me. The State of Tennessee has taken the kid away, which tells me that dear old Dad is at the top of their hit list. I'll bet Cannon won't be getting much sleep the next couple of nights.

http://www.wate.com/story/25714927/search-warrant-sheds-new-light-on-anderson-county-mans-possible-involvement-in-hermitage-womans-disappearance

Search warrants reveal new details about what led investigators to search the Anderson County home of a man who is now a person of interest in the disappearance and possible death of a Nashville-area woman...

The friend said he asked the 10-year-old where his mom (Burgess) was, and the boy said he was pretty sure his mom was dead and that his dad had killed her. The friend also said he asked to use the bathroom at Burgess' home and was told the toilet was out of order.

When police searched the bathroom on May 29, they found the toilet in working order, but cadaver dogs detected the presence of human remains.

Cadaver dogs also hit on the trunk of Cannon's car.

How terrifying, upsetting, and sad for that little boy. I hope that little boy didn't have to ride all the way to his dad's with his mom's body in the trunk of the car!
