Missing Nashville woman's son suspects father killed her, cops say
WBIR.com, Gannett Tennessee 9:11 a.m. CDT June 10, 2014

The 10-year-old Tiernan told his friend, he might not be seeing his mom anymore because she is probably dead. Tiernan said he was pretty sure that his dad had killed his mom, according to search warrants.

I read this earlier, while I'm sure the young son's name is in the search warrants and other documents, I wish they would not put his name in media. They sure don't mention the friends name..wish they wouldn't his. Out of respect for Nikki and her family, and not to mention He is a minor.

I totally agree.
Its' one thing to post the older son's name (he's 18) I was sad and surprised to see the younger son's name. No matter what he was or was not witness to, he thinks his dad killed his mom! That is more trauma than any adult can come to terms with, let alone a child. My heart breaks for him.

Anybody else out there wondering why they haven't arrested this guy yet ??

Seems to me they have a whole bunch of probable cause and circumstantial evidence. Just the stuff I have read in the news articles is pretty damning, including but not limited to the information in the search warrant.

I'm sure they would like to find a body prior to an arrest, but if they turn their back on this guy even for an afternoon, he may rabbit on them.

Is there any possibility they DON'T think he is responsible ??

I've been thinking on it, and thinking they may be waiting for forensics/dna to come back. He has an attorney speaking for him now, tho I don't know the name. I do remember a report where his attorney said they have no comment.

I found this just a few minutes ago, something new that I have read:

http://www.wsmv.com/story/25744810/search-warrants-reveal-new-info-in-case-of-missing-woman

Last week, Metro police executed search warrants at Burgess' home then at Cannon's.

In Burgess' house, investigators found a sheet with blood, brass knuckles, cleaning products, an extension cord and string.

In Cannon's home, they found an axe, a nylon case, glass vials, knives and a loaded revolver.

I hope that LE is just waiting on DNA confirmation and this &@?!#!* will spend the rest of his days behind bars.

Can we all please just wait, for the sake of her 10 year old boy? Let us see what the investigation reveals. Let's not speculate. Let LE do their job and tell us.

To WideOpen: sadly not every child has a relative who will gladly step forward and assume custody.

So, google Heather Trapp: compare these two cases and tell me which one is worse.

Most Sincerely. MoeJoey

P.S. Don't bother; they're both the work of the devil.

P.P.S. Don't bother; go to the case of Amora Blaine, and you will cry forever.

My only question, besides where is she.....
Who is the 2nd person that all the articles say, the neighbors saw putting something in the car early on the 24th?

As disgusting as the answer may be, popular opinion in here is that he must have had his 10 year old son helping him clean up the scene and loading the black bag in the car.

In the dark and from a distance, it might not be possible to see the age or size of the 2nd person. Being able to establish that there were two people though, would be easily discernable. I asked the same question a couple of days back at the beginning of thread #7.

Even though the 10 year old may not have known for a fact what was in the black bag, common sense alone led him to tell a friend that he believed his father may have killed his mother.

I suppose it is possible that Cannon may have had a buddy or a girlfriend helping him do this, but nothing I have seen so far has suggested that anyone else might be involved, from a suspect perspective.

MoeJoey. I respectfully must say every case that ends in a death is a tragedy. There is no one is worse than the other in my opinion. Pain is still pain, grief is still grief, and there will always be the people standing by unable to understand why. Comparing one to the other will do no good here.

Shes a mother, a daughter, a sister, a friend, and a beautiful stranger. It's just as heart breaking as every other.

Him having his son help clean up has crossed my mind as well. I so very much hope it isn't true, but in the time frame I think it would of been difficult for him to do alone.

Isn't that kinda one of the reasons we come to WS?

So far, the investigation has revealed some pretty awful information.

"Her son doesn't just think his mom is dead. He also thinks he knows who killed her, and it's all spelled out in search warrants.

Nikki Burgess has been missing for more than two weeks, and her friend Stephanie Blaney says she hasn't been able to sleep or eat much.

She was the last to hear from Burgess, when Burgess told Blaney by text message that the father of Burgess' young child, Caleb Cannon, was with her and that they were fighting.

After that there has been nothing but silence, Blaney said.

And perhaps most disturbing was what their son told a friend, according to police. The child said he "might not be seeing his mom any more because she is probably dead," and that he was "pretty sure that his dad had killed his mom."

In search warrants, police say four trained cadaver dogs smelled human decomposition in Burgess' home while two other dogs sensed human decomposition in Cannon's car."

What we are discussing is not speculation.

I shudder at the thought~~~~~

Thanks for your response.

I guess I was just wondering more or less whether LE would place the child into the system to question him regarding the events leading up to his mothers missing. Several posters brought up the "safety" of the child from possible retaliation (was he a witness) from the perp who is still out in the public. This seems like the upmost reason of importance to place him in a safe home. That does make sense to me.

It seems like Nichole has many loving friends and family. Because of the sensitive nature of their loved one going missing it seems someone would offer to open up their home to her son. There is time in the future I hope when more comes to light regarding this case for those to come forward.
Until then the boys safety is a priority.

It sounds like this kid may very well end up testifying against his father should there be a jury trial or a not guilty plea. Hiding him away in an undisclosed location is probably a pretty smart move. If this Cannon fellow is capable of what the evidence is showing, eliminating a 10 year old "snitch" probably wouldn't bother him much either. They might want to also keep an eye on the sons friend that was confided in.

I'm still a little baffled why they haven't made the arrest yet.

This is the first case I checked on when I got here tonight. I thought maybe Nichole had been found since I didn't see her on page 1. I am sad to see that is not the case. Where's Nichole?
