Deceased/Not Found TN - Nichole Burgess, 36, Hermitage, 23 May 2014 *C. Cannon guilty*

After having watched this video a couple of times now, something sort of popped into my head in regards to the mothers' anger.

What we don't see in the video is whether the friends that are putting the posters up are actually taunting and baiting his mother. For example, they are putting the posters directly across from her house and at numerous places along the street she lives on. Essentially, "in your face".

I am not taking her side by any means, but if Nicoles friends were getting overly aggressive by deliberately putting posters up and down the street where his mother lives, then it would go a long way in explaining her anger about it. The possibility of this was not addressed in the video, only her reaction to the posters being there.

This is a fairly small community they live in, one of those where everybody knows everybody. I'm sure his mother has been hounded by reporters and questioned by police, leading to juicy gossip down at the local diner. She may just be reaching her breaking point, especially if she doesn't know anything about it. If these posters are being positioned to basically target and harass his mother, legal or not, that isn't right either.

If this kind of anger continues to be exhibited by her however, I will have to amend my opinion and apologize for being naive' and stupid.

Reward offered for missing Hermitage woman

A $1,000 reward has been offered for information about the disappearance of a Hermitage woman.

Nashville police said Nichole “Nikki” Burgess, 37, was last heard from May 23, when she sent a friend a text message that indicated she was having an altercation with the father of her 10-year-old son.

Last month, authorities said Burgess is likely dead and announced they would be searching that man’s Anderson County home. Police said the man, Caleb J. Cannon, was considered a person of interest in the investigation.

I am following this case closely. Nikki and I were friends via a social media site and the news of her disappearance struck me hard. There are numerous unanswered questions and LE is working really hard on this one. I pray that they find her soon so closure can be brought to family and friends alike.

Looks like meanness runs in the Cannon family. Here is a letter the patriarch of the clan posted in regards to what he thinks about his son being targeted for her disappearance. It sounds like a whole lot of nastiness and finger pointing going on over there.

I think he is definitely in the running for "Dad of the Year".

Wow, that's just....wow.

And we wonder why some murderers are the way they are?

Here is a little larger version of what I like to call the Phillip Cannon memorial letter.

This is for all of you sleuths out there that forgot to wear your reader glasses, or can't find them.

I sort of think there might be other reasons for her response but I wanted to take a moment to say that I admire your desire to be fair and open minded. People willing to look at all sides seem less likely to miss something in a case. :)

What?! Lots of people have to borrow money at times in their lives to make ends meet. Big deal. Also, even if she were on drugs and had trash everywhere, wouldn't you still want her to be found rather than just trashing her? He can say his son is innocent all day everyday and still show a little concern for Nikki's well being. But instead, he is only interested in insulting her.

Even if I knew someone who lived in a garbage bag and did drugs, if they went missing, I would be concerned. Ya know, about are they dead or alive? Safe? It just seems like if you don't care about her safety and only care about trash talking her....something is very wrong. Like I said, defend your son all day long, but at least act like a human being with a heart who cares if she's alive or dead. And if her issues are so bad, then they should have found a more suitable home for her son. Why is Grandpa Cannon's home not suitable? Hmm?

She could be anywhere and wilderness abounds making searches so hard. Especially in the summertime. Remember when Gail Palmgren went missing in Chattanooga? No one could find her cause the trees and woods are so thick you can't see through them. Cue came in the fall and used a helicopter and I'm not exactly sure how long it took them to find her. It was something like 10-20 minutes in the air and she was found. All because it was fall and the leaves were falling and things aren't so thick (like kudzu and the like) as they start to wither away.

But, the thing with Gail's case is, when Cue's copter went up, it was her bright red jeep they were able to spot. Not Gail's remains. Once they found her jeep, they found her remains nearby. Nikki's car is not missing right? So, even if copters searched in the fall, it would be hard to spot remains, especially after the summer heat takes it's toll. :( I wish there was something I could do. I am not close to her town or her boyfriend's to go on a search, not to mention she could be anywhere. Either between her house and his, or he could have driven in a direction opposite either one of their homes and left her somewhere else to point suspicion elsewhere.

You are right about the dense forest cover here in Tennessee. If they are going to hold off on pressing charges until her body is found, then charges may never be filed. I think they had the same problem with the Holly Bobo case. There are so many heavily forested areas, there is so much rain, and the ground is so soft, that trying to find a burial site would be all but impossible. I could bury a suitcase in my back yard today, and with a couple of good rainstorms the ground would look completely undisturbed in a week or two. Tennessee has had an overabundance of rain this year, sometimes 3 or 4 inches in a single storm. Tennessee is about 15 to 20 inches above their average yearly rainfall. That much water is going to wash away a whole lot of trace evidence.

I saw this report last night and the more I listened the more my heart ached.... Then the angrier I became.... Her son, her younger son is the one hurting in all this and to me it is very critical that the DNA and all Forensics gets processed.. 24 weeks..6 months just toooooo long when the POI is the person who is trying to retain custody.

Channel 4 went to the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation to find out what the holdup is.

"In this particular case, we are talking a huge volume of evidence that was given to the TBI for analysis at the end of June. We're in the process right now of working to conduct the tests that we need to. However, there are several cases ahead of that," said TBI spokesman Josh DeVine.

Channel 4 also learned that police departments have the option to ask the TBI for expedited analysis, but that didn't happen in this case.

"Those sorts of requests are generally limited to cases where it is absolutely critical," DeVine said.

But it is critical, according to Burgess' friends.

Caleb Cannon, who has a son with Burgess, is the only one named as a person of interest in this case.

Burgess' friends say he's now trying to get custody of the 10-year-old.

Darn Poppyfrock I thought I was replying to your post....

My guess would be that he is trying to get custody of his son for appearances sake. I'm sure his attorney is advising him to act like a concerned parent.

I can't believe there hasn't been an arrest in this case. Sounds like law enforcement is bickering among themselves about who should do what, when it comes to the investigation. Maybe this is why the first thing they do when they hold a news conference is congratulate each other for working together in solving a crime, as if a bunch of grown men cooperating together to find a missing mother is some sort of major achievement and should be noted as such.

At the Blind Zebra in Crossville, the crowd was all Burgess's friends, the playlist was all her favorite songs, and the art auctioned off was all done by Burgess. Blainey said the goal was to throw Burgess the biggest party of the year.

"We're raising money for the family," said Blainey. "Obviously, they have needs with all of this"...

In addition to raising money for Burgess's family, friends said investigators were on hand to collect information from anyone who could come forward with new pieces of evidence.
