We use trail cams here on our properties, so we can monitor the wildlife . The kids think it's amazing to watch the deer on our cams. I had assumed the cameras that were referenced were for personal use?

I'm just wondering why cross the road.
These are babies 2 and 4 not 6 8 or 10.
I don't think she did anything wrong..Never said s?he did.
Not yet anyway! But
Why cross over the road? There is a lot of forrest right there out her door,

Sinkholes are often caused by water running underground..
some are huge can swallow a car

But u will see where the sinkhole is. I don't think its a sinkhole

They did not cross the road. They were behind the grandparents' house on their own property and not far into the woods.

Good question. I haven't heard anyone address connecting sinkholes with or without moving water.

The reason I ask I was thinking back to when I was little and we lived in the woods, and at one point the creek went "underground"...you wouldn't even have known it was there, and it took a lot of walking to get where it surfaced again, and there were areas where trees had fallen over and you could see through to the creek underneath and it moved surprisingly fast. Just trying to think of any explanation to where he might be. I am still surprised how my little one(who is 100% for height and 95% for weight percentiles) can fit in the smallest of small places.

That's what I ASKED?

Did they cross the road???? because it seem the searches are across that road.
To me it would be odd to cross the road. But that's just me and MVOO

I apologize if I misinterpreted. Your post said, "I'm just wondering why cross the road.
These are babies 2 and 4 not 6 8 or 10." In an earlier post you asked "Why not just stay close to the house since there was plenty of exploring to do there?" To me it sounded like you thought she took them on a walk across the road and you were questioning why she would unnecessarily take them someplace you perceived as more dangerous for younger children.

I don't know why the age of the children would be relevant as to whether or not they took their walk across the road or behind their house. I was actually under the impression that they were in fact behind the house in the woods outside her back door, not across the road, but again... I don't think it matters.

I assume she just took them to whatever area was the best place to take a walk. For all we know she chose one area of the woods over another precisely because the trail was better or it was a new place and the little girl had already been the other direction many times.

The sinkhole theory doesn't seem that plausible to me, either. We hear that they exist there, but I don't think we've heard that they are taking in equipment so they can see deep into one or anything like that. I think if there were any that looked suspicious we'd hear from volunteers or someone that checking into the depths of sinkholes was part of what they were doing out there.

They are searching the sinkholes thoroughly. They are digging down into them and even using robots.

Ah, thanks - I had not heard or read that.

Forgive me for not recalling exactly, but when did the grandparents purchase this property? Somewhere in this long thread is a link to a Zillow page showing when it was last bought and sold and if memory serves, they've only owned it for a year or two or three. I don't think it's property that they are apt to know like the back of their hand because they grew up playing in those woods themselves.

That said, if you own it and are an adult, I think it's perfectly reasonable to assume that you'll feel comfortable hiking around and exploring your own property in the middle of a nice day. Kids love adventures and grandparents love to take children on adventures. My grandmothers both lived on farms and both took me out on long walks into the pasture and to creeks and such many times. It's just part of grandparenting and life in the country.

We have no information to know if she did this regularly, if the kids begged to go on a walk or if they were getting restless and she decided they'd all be happier outside than in... we just don't know what led up to the walk in the woods. I can't ascribe a lack of judgment to her unless there is good reason to do so.

a strange thought just occurred to me. Probably a dumb one but I have been living this case along with you guys for days. I recall that when looking for missing Malaysian plane satellite images were used to identify areas of interest. My question is, could old satellite images be used to identify newer or suddenly larger sinkholes in the area where they are searching for Noah?Does my question even make sense?Horrible feeling the helplessness. How much worse for the family right now :(

I agree, and it is even happening here.

I'm not a sinkhole expert but I follow what you are asking and I will always think the maps and satellite images are VERY helpful. If they are looking at old images and say a sink hole opened up since then, I doubt there is any single way to keep up with ALL sinkholes. They really can happen over night. My thinking is the images will serve as areas of interest and in knowing where THOSE sinkholes are, perhaps they can point out areas of the forest similar to the known areas of interest and look there for new holes as well. There are factors that cause these, right? So there must be areas with these conditions they can pinpoint. I hope this makes sense. :) Total opinion.

I would like someone to actually define "sinkhole" in the terms they are using and reporting it. From the research I have done is, yes, Tennessee has lot of sink holes but that the western part of the state does not have them very commonly like the eastern part. I guess they only get put on a map if they are a certain size. Are they saying like sink holes that just a holes the size where you step down and just your foot gets stuck or rolls over or you stumble on, those that are 1 to 2 feet deep, or are they talking about ones that a almost 3 year old could fall in and totally disappear? With all of those hundreds of searchers out there, you would have thought that they would have discovered several big sinkholes by now. How come little Noah would be the only one out there that just happened to be the only one that falls into one? What are the odds.

I wonder if he is actually curled up in a hole somewhere like a small animal den. I just can't imagine that a little boy his age would not be scared to death when night time hit. I mean most need nightlights on to sleep in their own comfortable homes. I can't imagine him traveling or continuing to walk in the pitch black dark. If they terrain is as bad as people say it is, he would have a hard time getting anywhere in the dark. He probably would have hunkered in a spot that he could hide from all the scary stuff. During the day time I could see him coming out to walk some more. There looks like tons of holes under and around old trees. I hope they are really searching them. I would no way want to go reaching in one of those with my hands that's for sure. You would need to use a stick/flashlight or something to poke around in those deeper than you can see in with your own eye.

I also hope that Noah didn't double-back to past the house. We don't know if his grandmother called 911 from where she was in the woods or if she had to walk all the way back to the house with the little girl. He could have just been playing hide and seek and when he noticed that she walked away or went back to the house could he have tried to go after them and gotten lost? This could explain for why the tracking dogs are having a hard time keeping the scent or following it. There's no way he could have gotten far off of that main trail without the grandmother hearing rustling of the leaves. It makes a lot of noise when I walk through leaves in my grass yard. I'm not saying that he didn't just go missing but I think there are details that are left out. How long was he missing before 911 was called? Was it called in from the house or from the location he was last seen? Was it really just a few seconds she turned her head? Did she stop to help the little girl and let him walk ahead and he got out of sight on the trail? There is so many details we just don't have.

Sorry for the rambling on.

I might have missed this, but is this property Grandma's property or mom and dad's? Just wondering was she there babysitting while parents are at work or what? It makes a difference in how well she knew the property.

LOL No worries I just saw the map and saw the grids and wondered if they did cross over.
So much vastness (is that a word) but there are homes and roads some farms.
How did he vanish so quickly?

It's her house, parents house is about 8.5 miles away.
