TN - Officer Shoots Woman Advancing With Ax

New police surveillance video released Thursday shows a Gallatin police officer shooting a woman who police say attacked a Sumner County sheriff's deputy with an ax.

Leronda Sweatt was being served an eviction notice by a Sumner County deputy whom she allegedly assaulted with an axe. The deputy went back to his cruiser and called for backup.

The body cam video shows officers pull up to the home. The officer immediately gets out of his car, when Sweatt comes into view. She is holding some kind of weapon, which police said was a medieval ax.

The officer yells three times “Get on the ground,” and then continues to yell “Drop it” multiple times before firing twice.
