TN TN - Rhonda Daugherty, 49, LaFollette, 2 Dec 2014 - *L. Vann guilty*

Bumping this up to the top of the list.........Vann is scheduled to be in court today. I doubt anything much is going to come of it other than a bunch of delaying and game-playing by his defense team, but we can always hope.

OMG!!! Three more months to make a decision on whether to accept a plea or go to trial? What did they do for the last three months???

Though I'm usually a patient gal, I find the lengths of time that some of these cases drag on to be so very frustrating...but at least he is still in jail.

Thinking of Rhonda's family....

From article linked in message #282 above...BBM

Lonnie Lee Vann, 44, appeared for a status hearing and a final call hearing was set for November 16. That hearing will determine if Vann will agree to a plea deal or set a trial date.

One more month...not holding my breath. I would be very surprised if he confessed at this point. I'm thinking about Rhonda's family and how difficult the holidays will be for them this year. I'm hoping their faith brings them a measure of comfort and peace.

Tomorrow is the day. Although I find it doubtful he will take a plea deal, I hope that a plea deal includes a requirement that he provide information so that she can be found and laid to rest.

I will be thinking of Rhonda's family and hoping they get the answers they deserve.

The judge was adamant that Dec. 16 was the final deadline for accepting a plea. If Vann doesn’t accept a plea by that date, the case will move towards a trial.

When Vann last appeared in court in August, it was revealed that prosecutors had made an offer that would resolve the bulk of his charges, which include murder, kidnapping and robbery.

Sexton set aside Tuesday, May 31, 2016, for jury selection and to move forward with the trial. Speculation is that this trial could last at least two weeks.

Last week would have been Daugherty’s 50th birthday. Her body has yet to be located.

The way I'm reading this, Vann must be having a lot of trouble deciding if he wants to divulge her location or not......and his lawyers are falling on their swords until then. (and flat out lying)

You've got this tiny little community where nothing ever happens, but the court appointed defense attorneys are sooooooooo busy that they can't pay attention to the biggest case going on in this town in recent memory.

Best legal system in the world ? I notice that is always self-proclaimed by the people that run it and are involved in it........like these two useless lawyers that Vann has assigned to him.

Lonnie Vann’s day in court postponed. Again.

Wednesday, Dec. 16. That’s the next time Lonnie Vann, the man charged in the disappearance and death of Rhonda Daugherty, is due in Campbell County Criminal Court.

At this morning’s hearing, Vann and his court appointed attorney Dale Potter were expected to let the court know how they plan to proceed in the matter that has him facing a myriad of felony charges.

Instead, a laundry list of excuses was poured out before Criminal Court Judge Shayne Sexton. Potter explained how he had personal issues in late August, and that kept from devoting proper time to Vann’s case. Potter also pointed out he had been given new discovery in Vann’s case. However, he and his boss, Public Defender Leif Jeffers could not meet to discuss the discovery because Jeffers is recovering from knee surgery and is homebound.

District Attorney General Jarred Effler was clearly not pleased.
During the quick hearing, Effler told the judge the two sides had “been unable to reach an agreement” so the state was requesting a trial date.

When Vann last appeared in court in August, it was revealed that prosecutors had made an offer that would resolve the bulk of his charges, which include murder, kidnapping and robbery. The solicitation of a minor case wasn’t included in the offer, according to Assistant District Attorney Tom Barclay.

It was in August when Potter said his office had just received some of the evidence the state planned to proceed with, and he needed to review it before he and Vann could make a decision.

Sexton expressed that in a case of this magnitude plans need to be made for a trial. Sexton set aside Tuesday, May 31, 2016, for jury selection and to move forward with the trial. Speculation is that this trial could last at least two weeks.

Something is going to happen next Wednesday for sure, either a plea deal or a trial. No more foot dragging by the defense team. I suspect that if Vann accepts the plea deal, he's going to have to divulge where she is, along with pleading guilty to her murder.

This guy is so thickheaded and stubborn, we may not ever know for sure what he did either to her, or with her. He may be banking on the hope that no jury will convict him without her body being found. Any jury selected in that town is going to send him to death row for this little stunt, along with the other myriad of charges he's facing.

Be here on Wednesday for the latest.

Vann said he is pleading guilty because he is guilty, sentenced to 40 years.

In December 2013 Vann killed Rhonda Daughtery, according to the D.A.’s office. Rhonda Daughtery’s body has not been found. However, in court the state brought forward evidence that may shed some light on her death.

A photo of Vann at a Walmart in Clinton shows him buying a duffel bag and duct tape. On December 12, 2014, Vann was arrested in Myrlte Beach. The duffel bag was found by law enforcement.

The state says a zip tie was also found that was cut. It had Rhonda Daughtery’s DNA on it and was the same type of tie used in the robbery in Deerfield.

At Sugar Hollow Marina on Norris Lake, the DA’s office said a fishing boat had a receipt in it showing items Vann bought. The state said they searched Norris Lake, but did not find Rhonda Daughtery’s body.

That plea agreement will include Vann telling LE her whereabouts. He's already fully confessed to her murder, no sense now in refusing to tell them where she is. I suspect a lot of the details about how he killed her and why are going to be hidden from the public for awhile, but eventually it will all come out.
More than likely he has already given a full statement both written and verbal.

My guess would be that she's still in the lake, and the divers simply missed her. LE still has work ahead of them, and more than likely that's part of the reason they aren't offering up any more details than they are to the public. Maybe Vann can at least pinpoint an area of the lake to help narrow down the search zone.

Prior to Daugherty’s disappearance, Vann was seen on surveillance video at the Clinton Walmart and a Knoxville Lowe’s buying items such as duct tape, zip ties, cinder blocks and duffle bags.

Vann will be eligible for parole when he's about 75 years old. Off you go, Roly Poly.....have fun with your new friends at the big house.

Many missing person cases pull at my heartstrings. Though I'm not sure why, Rhonda's disappearance pulled at my heartstrings more than any other case. While I'm glad Lonnie confessed, I'm angry that there is even a chance he could serve a full sentence and still have some years to live as a free man. Although I understand the reasons behind the plea agreement and the acceptance of the plea agreement by her family, I don't believe he deserves to be a free man....ever!

I hope he provides enough information so that Rhonda's remains can be found and given a proper burial according to her faith.

Prayers for peace for her family....

It's just unbelievable. Vann decides to diddle an underage girl at a church, and Rhonda has to pay for it with her life........ and she wasn't even the witness against him. This guys' sense of vengeance is so twisted up, he can't even make the right person pay for his crimes. I guess making Rhonda's husband live with it is Vann's final revenge.
