'With everything that's gone in the past few days - we've been reached out to and we've spoken today with the United Cajun Navy,' Riley's stepdad Chris Whiteid said.
I don't know why the step dad is quoted as saying this, as if they JUST decided to do this. Maybe they misquoted him or took it out of context, but it just isn't true. The United Cajun Navy posted on their FB page about being asked to be a part of the case on March 11.

Did she take a pic of the guy? Most phones have cans now. Seems if she were wanting to report it she’d take a photo?

There could be many reasons why she didn't take a photo.
I do not always have my phone on me. Now, yes I understand I am not like most people. Sometimes I forget it and sometimes I want to be without it.

She could have seen the shirt and it didn't register for a few minutes that it looked like the one Riley was wearing. Then by the time she put two and two together it was too late to take a photo. I saw a car once in my town that the police had a BOLO for and of course, I did not have my phone. When I got home I called the police to tell them exactly where I saw the vehicle. Of course, they asked me if I took a photo so they could see if it was the correct car and nope I did not.

There have been times when I had my phone and simply did not take a photo. Like at the bank yesterday when a fellow customer was going inside with a baby kangaroo. I came home and told my daughter about it and she asked "aww did you take a picture so I could see it?" Nope. It didn't cross my mind at the time. I wish I had. I am in my 40's and I just don't immediately think of my phone.

Or the person could be mistaken and it wasn't the shirt Riley was wearing. Maybe it was very similar. Or maybe she is right. Impossible to know right now.

Moo; and more MOo.

Not to be horribly graphic BUT if he was in the river. wouldn’t have surfaced further down the river. (bloat float). how fast does the river run? how far down the river would he be?

IIRC <modsnip: not an approved source>, I don't think she knew about what Riley was wearing until after the fact... Once she saw something released showing what he was wearing, it "jogged her memory" that she saw the homeless guy. She said all of his clothes were dirty aside from the pristine shirt, which I thought she had previously described as white, not the light beige color/black. That is what stood out to her and she checked with the other people who were there to help serve the homeless with her. No one had a picture of the guy, but apparently they sometimes did take photos of the ones they served (not sure why).

I posted this before and so apologies to those who have already seen it - he was found 15 miles downstream and had been moved this distance by the river in about 5 days. Riley could be even further downstream by now or hung up underwater on some debris.

The last person to potentially see Mr Strain claimed that he caused a “commotion” at a Nashville homeless encampment on the night of 8 March where his bank card was found, adding that he was “very intoxicated”.

“We heard a commotion. We looked back up. He almost fell over. The last bush right there caught him,” an unidentified man who lives in the camp told WZTV.

“He was very, very, very intoxicated. I never seen anybody stumble that hard before,” the man added. “I yelled get up. They said, ‘He’s just drunk. He’s okay’.’’

I have drank myself to puking/black out multiple times and the effects don't look anything like RS on video. Both he and Delano Burkes make eerily similar movements. In the video clips of RS he is "flailing" his arms like he can't feel them. The EXACT same movement can be seen in Delano in the one security video that caught him before he was in the water. My own opinion is that both men had been roofied which could explain the low drink count and the over intoxicated results.

The homeless people need to be questioned heavily. Where did Mr. Strain go afterwards?

I wonder if his parents have more info than has been released to the public? It's interesting that no one from the frat trip has commented or shared info

It is so strange how he seemed to disappear after speaking to the LE officer. The loss of boot sounds indicates he left the sidewalk. He's not on the video when it pans back in that direction. Did he make a right-hand turn into the trees?
I've wondered that as well. Folks are pondering what he said after he walked away from the officer. Some feel he may have said "Did you park?" as if he was speaking to someone into his phone. That now makes me wonder if perhaps he was just mumbling, "A park!" to himself, seeing trees as a place where he could relieve himself, as some have wondered.
Cajun Navy Relief?

Edited
@JerseyWasHome2 Thx for mentioning this organization.

W a quick online search, I found a website for CNR & a few soc media
accounts.
From what I'm seeing, appears the group focuses more on providing "immediate rescue and relief during natural disasters" than on S & R for missing individuals, like Ryan S.
Just my impression, not a criticism.

I know some S & R groups have sonar & divers who may be be able to help. No names come to mind ATM, but hoping they may join the effort to find him. Some very brave, selfless souls venture out there.
You are correct in that that seems to be the Cajun Navy's primary focus. However, Dave Flagg, their director, spoke at the press conference yesterday and mentioned that they also jump into missing persons searches on occasion. Recently I know they've been heavily involved with land searches in the case of missing Iowa trucker, David Schultz, and during those searches for David (who is still missing), they actually located another missing man in that area of Iowa.

Here is a report about a homeless camp near Cumberland River. They are not as benign as they want to appear. This report is about the homeless people attacking a woman.

[...]

The nonprofit organization has been involved in the search since March 9...

... According to Flagg, the all-volunteer organization was created when Hurricane Katrina hit New Orleans in 2005.

[...]

The organization has since grown into a massive team of volunteers who provide relief efforts and organize search and rescue teams during natural disasters. Flagg said volunteers have been deployed to almost “every major disaster” since Hurricane Katrina.

[...]

However, Flagg said the United Cajun Navy’s work is not limited to natural disasters. The organization also regularly gets involved in missing persons cases by deploying boats, drones and dogs for search and rescue missions.

[...]

According to Flagg, the United Cajun Navy also has a “cooperative” relationship with the Metro Nashville Police Department, which is continuing search efforts.

“We’re not under their command. They’re not under our command. However, we do defer to them first,” he said. “We don’t take any significant actions without checking with Detective Chandler first.”

To me it's not much different than the young adult driving 80mph in a 30 zone crashing. It's horrible, it's tragic, devastating and it shouldn't have happened, but it did and does.
Except he was out, not driving, but walking around for a while. This could have been prevented. For one, the bar should have a requirement, that they either get them an Uber , or an escort home. That’s not too much to ask, IMO.

The Metropolitan Nashville Police Department (MNPD) released new video on Monday that shows Strain exchanging greetings with a police officer around 9:52 p.m. March 8, in the area of Gay Street, south of the Woodland Street Bridge.

Nashville NBC affiliate WSMV said the video was made public only after it made inquiries with the police department about Strain's possible distress.

Detective Anthony Chandler and Sgt. Robert Nielsen said the video was released because there were concerns Strain was being chased or followed. The investigators said there is no evidence of that and stressed at this point, it is still a missing person's investigation.

Can anybody find the WZTV clip where they interviewed the homeless guy?

Uber drivers are VERY reluctant to pick up seriously intoxicated people, and really shouldn't be forced to. Partly because they might be aggressive, partly because they'll vomit in the car. Another idea is to arrest people for public intoxication, and keep them in the drunk tank overnight. But bar districts certainly don't want that - that will chase away business. It sounds like this man was not allowed to wait on the sidewalk outside the bar for his friends, which would have solved this problem. Bouncers shouldn't force parties to separate, if that is indeed what happened.

If he did have something slipped in his drink, which very well may have happened, all of this talk about overserving and irresponsible drinking is moot. It's good to consider all possibilities.

His shirt reminds me of the album cover for a Garth Brooks album back in the day. If I saw someone wearing it, it would stick out but if I didn't know it might belong to a missing person I wouldn't have taken a photo. I'd be able to confidently say I saw someone wearing a shirt just like it though

I highly doubt an Uber driver would pick up somebody alone in Riley’s state.. the risk of vomiting or violence is too high.

Riley was an adult as bad as it sounds he has to take some responsibility for his actions.
