If part of the ill intent was to hurt first responders, maybe the gunshots were to lure the police etc to that area before the explosion.
Reading the news on it, the bomb squad was on their way to the site. If they waited five more minutes, they probably would have taken out the bomb squad. Perhaps that was their intent? I hope they get these people soon and we find out why they did it. But then, it may be another example of the Las Vegas concert shooting.

This is horrifying,.... and surreal. Is this a warning of some kind??? Why Nashville, why Christmas morning? Thank God no one was killed.

While the AT&T building is very close, it appears from news reports and video footage, the vehicle was parked near 166 N 2nd... maybe between The Melting Pot and Hooters??

Were the gunshots real or a part of the recording?

I bet the RV was stolen because it will have serial numbers etched all over it including the engine and chassis. Since the bombers went to the trouble to warn others of the danger, I am hoping that they didn't have the owners of the RV tied up inside! Now that thought is in my head and won't go away.

Good question. It's possible.

Also, I now realize there is another (not the "Batman" Commerce St) AT&T communications center closer to explosion area.

Sounds to me like they were part of the recording.
Since everything seems to have been on a timer, then it could have been any time from late Thursday night to early Friday morning that the bombers left the area. I think this has been well planned. There must be a definite goal in mind. I hope we find out soon. I'm worrying that it might be one of a series of bombings.

Well planned and with the sheer power of the explosion, I fear that this is no amateur that learned to do this by some video. I’m assuming they had a car or something nearby to have gotten out of the area.

I’m reading with tv in the background and one of the networks talked with a guy who lives close and I heard him say that he thought the warning was someone else in the apts with a tv too loud. His place was damaged.

So far, unless i'm proved otherwise.
  1. The RV was parked right next to a large "DataCenter". (A building filled with servers, telephone equipment, and internet switches i.e.)
  2. RV gave warning to humans to get away, including gunshots.
  3. it appears the target was the building it was closest to (the one that took very little damage despite the RV being parked right in front of it) (big brown/red-ish windowless building)
While there are several mentions of the AT&T Building/Skyscraper, that is an office complex, the building that the RV was parked next to was the actual "Plumbing of the internet" building, you'll notice the building has little damage, as they are built to withstand blasts.

Data Centers are rated for "Physical Security" all the way up to its ability to withstand a bomb, typically rated SOC 1, SOC 2, SOC 3.. TIER 1, TIER 2, TIER 3.. ETC.

From what I've gathered thus far, the target of the blast was "somewhat successful". having knocked out the internet for regional users of AT&T.

Although i'm sure if that was the intention, the perpetrator may have been hoping for more visible damage to the datacenter.
And quite possibly was hoping to take down the entire internet (which is impossible without several strategically placed nukes all going off at the same time)

Time and investigation will tell, but all signs thus far are pointing to an american radical with the goal of "blowing up facebook" or something.
