I know there are components of this that make it feel like a sophisticated, or at the very least a thoughtfully planned out operation, but IMO I think this is a lone Wolf operator. An ideologue. Just not sure what specific ideology. Destroying infrastructure or sending a message about it in some form? MOO.
I have a friend who works in the cellular industry. She suspects it was one of those 5G conspiracy nuts.

@whitelilac , I’ve been kicking that same “why Nashville” question around too. I can only think the perp is from the south somewhere or maybe because Nashville is such a famous city. There has been a lot of attention on Nashville recently too due to the Caitlyn Kaufman Case. Just more of my late night rambling thoughts.
I think it's because it was one of the major communication hubs. I mean, it disrupted service from Kentucky down to Florida. That makes it an excellent target.

With the reports of actual gunshots, and the reports of shotgun shells at the scene to validate that report, and the report of human remains being found, that would strengthen the Revenge of the Disgruntled Employee theory being postulated in this thread.

It would be very strange, uniquely strange, if the bomber destroyed themselves deliberately in the blast. I suspect that pattern is almost unheard of in a revenge bombing. There is a tremendous difference between a revenge bombing ("I'll get you back for making my life miserable"), versus someone who with purpose becomes the guidance system in a bombing. The Middle East-style suicide bombing comes from a different set of motivations and intentions.

Most people who involve themselves in revenge want to be around to gloat about their activities. ("Look how smart I am," "You're not so powerful," etc.) Self-destruction makes it hard to enjoy the aftermath of the revenge, which leads me back to the thought the dead person (evidence of human remains) might have been someone other than the bomber.

Disrupting telecommunications on a day when people might use them at record numbers because we weren’t supposed to travel to see our families this year sounds very intentional to me. And that mission was accomplished in a dramatic way with lots of publicity.

Your post, and those of others who have mentioned this, points to nodal analysis. This in turn points to knowledge, skill, and ability.

If it was a group sending a message (domestic terror group of whatever flavor), they had the knowledge, skill, and ability to do nodal analysis. We use the terms like "network" to describe an interconnection of different communications systems. These systems juncture (come together) at key locations. Knowing what that location is can aid in targeting. Destruction or disruption of this key location can create regional negative impact, as happened yesterday, when communications (to include those of aviation and emergency services) were interrupted.

Or, if it were simply a disgruntled employee going out with a blast.... The event itself was his/her message, and the aftermath was just something people have to deal with. They only cared about (focused on) the message of getting back at an institution (the AT&T building), and the larger impact and the clean-up wasn't in their thinking or a concern.

I think 5G nut as well.

I certainly don't know the motive nor can I guess. But to me when giving a 15 minute warning seems to have been done because in these horrid terrorists cases, both domestic or foreign actors ...the perp or perps know the police will converge on the area quickly.

I don't see him or her as trying to save lives. There wasn't any quarantee lives would be saved either.

No one who sets a bomb of this magnitude to explode really cares about human life.

Imo, They did know LE would converge into the area trying to save as many lives as possible, and thank God they did. LE acted just like the perp knew they would by running toward grave danger in order to save others while putting their own lives at great risk.

Anyone who is capable of doing something like this is up to no good, period. Imo, they aren't a do gooder by any stretch of the imagination.

Jmho
Obviously they aren’t a do gooder, but in their own eyes they are. IF and that’s a big if, the perp was not in the explosion, he is probably praising himself because he believes his recording saved many lives. The perp probably believes this was something that had to be done, it was imperative in his eyes. IMO he is probably very arrogant too and if someone would have been killed, he would have blamed it on whoever was killed because he “warned” them before the explosion. I agree that he doesn’t care about human life, but he thinks whatever he’s doing is right and therefore he had to warn people to continue being “right” in his mind. Just MOO

I think the 5G conspiracy could very well be the motive.

Obviously a very well-planned event.

Anyone else have a good look at the still of the RV that has been released? It looks to me like one person in the drivers seat but sex, race, age, anything identifiable is impossible for me. As best I can do, is that it's a person.

Personally I think the date it happened has meaning. I think it has a lot in common with the Christmas Market terror attacks in Europe and the area chosen for it's terrain. The heavily constructed buildings would intensify the bomb's damage. I hope they find the person/group involved. I think one would have engineering or physics experience. JMO

Or it could be the fact less people would be in the area on Christmas morning.

Terrorists operate in different socio political environments and have different goals.

In Northern Ireland, causing civilian casualties amongst ordinary and non viciously partisan people could cost support from ones own side. Likewise, attacks on innocents could lead to retaliation from militants on the other side.

As a result, a certain number of IRA bombing attacks came with warnings. A good number of others, however, had no warnings. Whether or not a warning was made could depend on many things including the target, what Protestant militants had done or had not done recently, or the mindset of the particular IRA cell etc. etc. When warnings were given, they could be very brief.

Though casualties were minimized, the warned attacks were designed to produce a sense of panic (especially with multiple bombs in an area) and give the impression that the IRA could strike at will. Naturally, warned attacks came with credit claims and probably statements to the effect of: "Better listen to us, next time there might not be a warning(s)".

Good points and information.
I finished reading the book “Say Nothing” earlier this year. I thought it was a murder mystery, which it was sort of, but it was mostly a history of the IRA and the Troubles in Northern Ireland. Silly me. In it, I got the impression that another, much smaller, reason that warnings were given was to somehow absolve the bombers of blame if someone was killed or injured, and that happened a good bit.
I guess that could be in play here too.

It was parked near apartment buildings though. There would have been more deaths if the police didn't evacuate those buildings from the rear exit. Also, I don't think the warning was meant to save lives. From what I am reading in the news, it sounds like the bomb didn't go off at the time the recording stated. I don't believe the terrorists cared about deaths. I have a hard time believing anyone who builds a bomb and detonates it, whether it's a Molotov cocktail or a car bomb, cares about other humans in any way. I think the RV was stolen and the real owner was murdered, and I hope I'm wrong. All JMO

Has the type of music played in the warning recording ever been identified?
Of all the places a perp could attack, i find it interesting that the perp chose Nashville, the heart of country music.
They communicated that there would be an explosion, coincidentally near communication centers - and emanating from the type of vehicle usually associated with traveling.
The ''spectacle'' was a dramatic countdown to showtime, and the big reveal - a composition of sound, light and "pyrotechnics."

Very curious indeed about the type of music included in the warning.
speculation, imo. rbbm

Why Nashville Can't Quit Country Music
''Thanks to a surging economy and an onrushing hot-city rep, the Music City has been gaining about 100 new residents a day. A major Amazon operations center is coming, promising lots of high-salary jobs. It’s also become a tourist mecca famed as much for bachelorette parties as honky-tonks: 2018, the city took in more than 15 million visitors. But as the skyscrapers and rents have risen, many of the hallowed offices and studios of Music Row, the industrial heart of country, have come under threat from the wrecking ball.''

I think if it is a domestic person (or persons), we should expect to hear from them somehow. Especially if this goes unsolved for a bit. The arrogance and need to boast usually gets the best of them as in other cases like the Unabomber.
