Clues sought after man goes outside for smoke, never returns

An elderly Korean War veteran disappeared three years ago after he went outside to smoke a cigarette.

Sidney Inman, 79, had a history of health problems, including dementia, which led him to stay at an assisted living home on Hawkwood Lane in north Nashville.

He said he doesn't suspect foul play. He added that it's possible he's alive and confused living as a homeless man. However, Det. Akin truly believes he passed away somewhere.

He was known to visit Walmart stores, tobacco stores and the Union Rescue Mission.

His son, Burt, told News 2 he also believes his father has likely passed away, but he wants to know what happened and is looking for closure.
