Well, this is an odd one. I hope the deceased man can be identified quickly, for the sake of any loved ones looking for him.

Dang. Bears cannot get a break. They get blamed for everything. Axe murders in Montana. Throwing people off cliffs in Tennessee.

I don’t know if it’s just me but I’m not understanding this story at all…lol

Bad guy named Hamlett stole id from an acqaintance named Andrade. Probably used it to get away with some crimes. Wanted to change his identity again, so lured some poor guy into the woods, murdered him/threw him off cliff. Stole unknown man's ID, and staged 911 call/body to make it seem Andrade/he himself had died in the accident.

ETA; Hamlett thought he was a genius, but others have tried it before...

Thanks, that clears it up much better.

Cheers.

I amended it because I think bad guy may have been staging his own death...since real Andrade had reported his ID as stolen.

Nope. Now I’m confused again.

I can’t readily access the FBI document and don’t want the download.

In the article in post #1 above….. is it known whether all three pictures are of the alleged suspect Nicholas Wayne Hamlett? It doesn’t seem clear from my reading it.

Might the first picture (on the left) be a post mortem representation of the unknown victim John Doe? If not, what other information is available on trying to ID that individual. IIIUC it will be critical knowing that to try and track Hamlett.

Sorry if these are stupid questions. And no @jenn83 ….you are not alone. And @Cedars - thank you for the Cliffs’ Notes on this one! Time to get some sleep over here. MOO

Me three @jenn83 ……. @Cedars I think you were correct the first time? The article in post #1 does say that Hamlett had tried something like this before. (And IMO ‘bad guy’ (Hamlett) was trying to create a death for the assumed identity he had taken from Andrade IIUC - by staging a death for the still unidentified individual…… (that was supposed to be ‘Andrade’ through actions of Hamlett). Quoting from a section towards the bottom of the article:

“Investigators say this isn’t the first time Hamlett has tried something like this. They confirmed to Channel 2 Action News that several years ago, Hamlett lured a man into the woods in Alabama and was later arrested in Niceville, Florida.”

I miss when it was just "stealing picnic baskets."

edit: this is really close to my neck of the woods, I should see if anyone's reported on it here.

Sorry... There's a real person named Andrade, he was not murdered. If the police believed the body was Andrade, they'd contact his next of kin, and they'd say "he's not dead, he's right here!"

So if bad guy Hamlett understood the above scenario would happen, then he was actually trying to make it look like the person who died was fake Andrade ie whoever had stolen the ID, ie himself.

dude is stupid - why did he even try to concoct such a bizarre story? he would've been better off just leaving the body with no i.d.

and he's tried it before???!!!
I don't think he murdered anyone before, he was out on parole.

Unfortunately, he could certainly do it again, now that he's wanted for murder instead of just a parole violation.

And is now using dead man's identity. Let's hope LE can quickly ID the victim, both for the family and to be able to track movements of murderer.
