Found Deceased TN - Tamia Taylor, 21, met friend at 11:30pm and got on a riverboat, when riverboat docked she was missing, Memphis, 9 Sep 2023

Is the only story we have of someone seeing her onshore, after dis-embarkment, coming from the taxi/shuttle driver? Trying to figure out if she fell overboard on the boat or staggered drunk and fell into the water after leaving the boat or if the story the taxi/shuttle driver told of her being put into a truck full of men is true and she was harmed and thrown into the water. JMO
If you kill someone and they die on land and try to hide the evidence by making it look like a drowning, it will show up in the autopsy. Lungs will have air in them.

If you throw or push someone in the water and they drown, the cause of death will be drowning.

I don't know where a truck full of men comes into play here.

Isn't this one of those "there but for the Grace of God go I" events? Each person should be responsible, but even the most responsible has their moments of letting down the guard, letting down the hair or moments when time and circumstance take over. True, it is more the me generation. However, her friends are caught in a negative light when perhaps they are merely acquaintances who did not have the time to become true friends. I just feel that any of us, over the course of a lifetime, might be in exactly this or a similar situation.
Well said.

Yes, I know that.

Regarding the friends they were all probably very drunk themselves so you don’t always think logically.

Tamia seemed like quite a social person from what we have seen so I would guess she probably mingled on the boat - I imagine the friends when they couldn’t find her just thought she went off with other people (rather than thinking she went overboard)

Regarding the boat company I agree they need to look at safety measures however, when drinking on a boat it’s always going to be risky as water & alcohol don’t mix well.

I think ultimately this is just a tragic accident blaming others for it will not bring Tamia back.

Respectfully, I disagree. There are very few things I would consider a "tragic accident". I'm not saying someone has to be held criminally responsible for Tamia's death, but this should be a push for changes to make things safer and make it less likely for this to happen again. It could be safety protocols, it could be ensuring a more rigorous check-out process.

In some cases, there was legislation/protocols in place that could have prevented an accident, but older vessels were grandfathered in. If this happened here - and I don't know enough about the rules and regulations of these types of craft - then this clearly should be an impetus to revoke the grandfather clause and insist all vessels upgrade.

Obviously, all IMO.

One of the things I do wonder is if CCTV is mandated other types of vessels.

I haven't been able to keep up with the lastest, apologies if I missed something. So has the investigation been completed and there is nothing pending in Tamia's death?

I know that particular company is not doing the booze cruises anymore, but are others still doing so?

I don't know if it's over. They just haven't provided any further information other than she drowned.

Tamia is mentioned in the article below

It wasn't her I'm afraid - IDed as Hailey Silas. We've got a WS thread for the identification:

Identified! - TN - Memphis Area - Woman found on barge - Hailey Silas

I grew up along a bayou and drove over the Mississippi River daily for years. Tug boats and barges are a constant occurance along the Mississippi River. Although barges are relatively flat, the top of a barge is quite a distance from the water. How did Tamia get up on the barge?

I don't think she was, I think they are referring to another case.

It wasn't Tamia on the barge, she was found in the water and identified. This young woman on the barge was identified as Hailey Silas. the concern is that two young women were found dead in the same area of the river in a three month period.

The article @Knox posted mentions Tamia's case and includes a quote from a local resident claiming that Hailey's body was the "second or third" body found on the river "involving boats".
Yes! Sorry for the confusion - I only posted so it was explicit in the thread that this wasn't a new development for Tamia's case.

You quoted my post, worried that people would confuse the woman found on the barge, with Tamia.
Yet didn't know Tamia's body had been found in the river, back in September (stated in the linked article)?
Talk about confusing, lol.
