TN - Tyre Nichols, beaten to death by 5 Memphis Police Officers, Jan 2023 *officers charged*

  • #681

So they are blaming Tyre from trying to get away from them for his death. Reminiscent of "Rodney King" and justifying the "beat down".

My issue was the huge cover-up attempt. If everything was fine, why the cover-up?! Now, in court, open court, no less, they are justifying their behavior.

The verdict is SHAMEFUL.
IMO.

The state trial began April 28, 2025. With attorneys previously predicting the case to last around three weeks, Shelby County prosecutors surprised some when they rested their case during day three of the state trial after calling just five witnesses.

So was the prosecution even trying???

Wow.I just don't know what to say.

It sounds like these three, blamed the other two, who pled guilty, rather than going to trial. MOO is that they are all guilty. This wasn't like George Floyd, where Derek Chauvin was 100% guilty of killing George Floyd.

That video, to me, showed five men, brutally kicking, and punching Tyre. MOO. They should have at least been incarcerated for something.

At least there may be prison sentences on the federal charges.

The three defendants still face the prospect of years in prison after they were convicted of federal charges last year, though they were acquitted of the most serious charges then, too.

Two other former officers previously pleaded guilty in both state and federal court, including Emmitt Martin, who defense attorneys blamed for the majority of the violence.

I sure hope they face prison sentences on the federal charges.

Wow! I’m shocked.

My heart is broken. Where is the justice? For those who say all cops are not bad (which I agree) their acquittal is the reason lots of people don't like cops in general. 😢

The trial date in the civil lawsuit filed by RowVaughn Wells, the mother of Tyre Nichols, against the city of Memphis has been pushed back four months.

Judge Sheryl Lipman has pushed the trial back from Monday, July 13, 2026, to November 9, 2026.

Chief U.S. District Judge Sheryl H. Lipman has granted a new trial for three former Memphis police officers convicted in federal court for their roles in the death of Tyre Nichols, citing concerns over judicial bias that arose after a series of behind-the-scenes events during and after the trial.
