I think this thread is just an invitation to an argument. Why bite?

It isn't. We want to ask questions and find answers...together. A healthy exchange to enlighten and to learn is always welcome at WS. I think when people were given "their own thread" it became an issue that the lines were clearly drawn as to taking sides. This allows us to question openly and respond across the board equally. I believe we all want the same thing which is to bring Caylee home...no matter what.

When the Padilla clan bailed Casey out, many of us were very angry. Tony Padilla came on and allowed us the opportunity to question their motives, their actions, and clarify other issues. It turned out that he and LP earned our respect and we listened to what he had to offer. People who initially, myself included, that railed against her release realized our emotions were speaking for our common sense. Many ended up supporting them in their efforts to find Caylee.

This post bears repeating!

This is the best post I've read on here in months! Thank you!

So why not take it? If they have nothing to hide they would've taken it
I have nothing to hide with regards to this case and I wouldn't even take it. I would never recommend anyone take it, especially if they are innocent. Too risky and too much room for error.

I used to say the same thing, JBean. Adamantly as I recall. LOL However, this case has given me reason to rethink it. Looking at the parents of the missing who have gone ahead with the LD tests, especially Mark Klaas, tells me it is essential. Even if you fail for whatever reason or if the test is inconclusive...it tells LE that you honestly felt you had nothing to hide. This is a step in the right direction towards clearing the family.

I would not take it particularly if I had nothing to hide. I would never put myself at risk like that. I have taken a lie detector and I failed so bad on every honest answer. Not a chance I would let anyone in my family take this test.

What about all the families that have been cleared and to have been proven to be telling the truth tho? I can't get around that it helped them instead of harmed them.

It may be the family doesn't want to be asked if they believe Casey, or if they believe she is capable of harming Caylee. They did search their own back yard. They are probably walking on eggshells on holding on to hope she will eventually cooperate.

Why would it matter what they thought? Those are only opinions and not facts.

I think the point should be made the FBI initiated the request. At that point, if we assume their role was in the kidnapping portion of the program, then their questions would have been relative to that issue.

I guess my point is, in general, I would not take one, but for one exception, if my child was missing, and I had NO IDEA where they were, I would take 50, and so would every member of my family

I think the opinion of someone as close to Casey as her parents would be important, and they will probably be cross-examined re the yard search as it is. Questions about Casey on a lie detector test would basically be testimony of a sort they may not want to give.

If they have nothing to be afraid of as far as knowing what happened to Caylee, they should do it. Whatever else comes from it is going to come out eventually anyway, imo.

I believe Caylee is alive, even if what has been put out there contradicts what I believe, what is just my opinion. Asking us to explain what has been put out there is mute, no offense jmo. For me to believe that she is dead, is giving up the hope and faith that I have for Caylee to be alive.

Respectfully, Call me silly, but I believe in miracles... It's a lot easier for some to believe she is alive simply because they may have hope and faith that she will be found unharmed and returned to her family. I chose to believe this, because if I believe otherwise, it means that I would have to give up all hope, I refuse to do that at least until they produce her lifeless body, which at that time everyone who believed she was dead will be proven right. If that does happen, will it make anyone feel better that they were right, and those who chose to believe she was still alive wrong? Whatever way Caylee is found, at least I will be able to say I did not give up, my hope and faith may have failed me, but at least I tried to be positive toward her safe return, even if that may never happen. It is just the opinions of others, that they are entitled to them.

I have a family member who was murdered 9 years ago, it is still unsolved, the killer still walks free. I can also see from the shoes of those who want Casey to pay for all the lies and for abuse of Caylee by not being a good mother, or in fact causing her death. I can sympathize with both those who believe she is still alive and those who think she is dead. It is a fact that there is an unsettled grief that onlookers will have in this case. Anything left unsolved is dealt with in the best way we know how. If believing she is still alive helps those deal with their grief, then let them think what they want. Everyone has to deal with this in their own way.

One thing is for sure,... No one will ever rest until we know exactly what happened to her and who exactly had anything to do with it. We will all have that unsettled, unresolved feeling until we know where Caylee is,... alive or dead.

I don't ask those to explain why they think she is dead, simply because I know this is just the opinions based on what has been put out there, and you are entitled to be upset, or think what you need to think. Either way we still have to find Caylee.

wow. I had always heard stories along those lines but never a first hand account. I'm glad you posted that.

I agree JBean, it is true that those who have a tendency to feel guilty even if they are not, a lie detector would fail them even if they were telling the truth.

I have never taken one, but I would love to just to see the result.
I would also think any meds one might be on (CA- sedatives or other) could effect- does anyone know?

Hello...I'm a newbie to this board although I've been lurking for some time. I'e run the gamut of theories about this sad case, from being convinced that Caylee was accidently suffocated after being left in the car in the heat to being fed to the alligators.

Nothing in Casey Anthony's demeanor following Caylee's disappearance suggests something fatal happened to the child. Unless she is a true sociopath/psychopath (provable by psychiatric examination), I would think in all the pics taken of her, there would be at least one that showed inner reflection or a trace of fear or sadness. There are none. She still displays absolute confidence in her silence.

Is it possible that she gave the child up in an "open" but secret adoption? Secret between the parties, that is. Different states have varying waiting periods before such an adoption becomes final and irrevocable. If indeed she had done that, there would be no legal ramifications for her to face, being Caylee's natural mother and legal custodian. She may be keeping quiet in order for a waiting period to expire that would disallow any interference from her parents.

I know it's a stretch, but every day that goes by and Caylee's dead body is not found, gives hope that she is still alive with someone who loves her.

I agree with you Paula and still consider something like this one of the possibilities. I don't know why she would go through all the severe consequences and still not tell, but it could be to wait out a waiting period like you say, or for some other reason we haven't hit on, having to do with who the other party is, or to do with money changing hands or I don't know what. Then on the flip side, I'm not sure that Casey did ever have any thought of wanting to be "rid" of the responsibility of Caylee, that could be a fiction that has just sprung up in the media/public eye since the disappearance, because when KT wanted to adopt her child in the beginning, she did not take her up on it. And I think most likely she grew more attached to the child since then, she actually appears to have had a normal attachment to the child and appears to have been proud of her and affectionate toward her from friend and family accounts...But, maybe if she was desperate enough for money or really thought Caylee would be better off, or some other personal reason. Or even if her judgment was impaired at the time she sealed the deal, who knows. I still also think it's possible she could have some organizational/thinking/cognitive disorder that made her an easy target for being tricked in some way. Or that Caylee could have been taken to silence either her or Caylee about another crime.

good question about meds affecting polygraph, I wonder. Certainly plenty of meds that change your tension level, emotional responses, etc.
