...This gives more credence to the fact that he had a 10 year contract with Nicole (as has been reported) and kicked her to the curb shortly before the 10 years was up.
I still believe that he tried to divorce Nicole before the 10-year mark because of California law. Doesn't it say that a spouse who is married longer than 10 years is entitled to half of the assets?

Also, didn't Tom miss the deadline but still claim that he separated before it??

What's sad about all that is that if she doesn't marry him, he'll fight for custody of the kid. Without his money, she can't afford to fight him. So, she'll HAVE to marry him if for no other reason than to have the funds to keep her kid. There is no doubt in my mind that the marriage won't last the 10 years, but if it gets close, he'll dump her first.

Nan, I'm not sure on the California law thing. But, if that's true, I wonder why he offered Katie an 11 year deal if after 10 she's entitled to half?

I don't know about the deadline. I hadn't heard that before. :waitasec:

LOL. Well, it should be interesting...

Sad situation for her to be in - that's for sure. She should have thought about all this before she let the little guy impregnate her. :p

I'm not sure she's got the mental capacity to think that. I mean after all, how many of us think that far in advance when we fall in love. I can't comprehend my life being as open as this. Thank the Lord though that her father is an attorney who deals in this sort of thing and could do so for her.

Yep, I agree. Thank God her father is looking out for her interests. ;)

We need to keep this thread going for 11 years. Then, we will see if old Tom is on the up and up. ;)

Sometimes we can't clearly see the harm being done to ourselves as clearly as we can the harm being done to our children... so hopefully Katie will find Scientology being shoved down Suri's throat a bit more contemptible than she does having it shoved down her own throat. So, maybe she'll eventually wise up. I can't believe for even a minute that the glow won't drop off of their relationship in the next few years. I would think just having to listen to the word thetan over the years would eventually make me want to wop ol' Tom upside the head with a glass bottle.

Found this from the MSNBC article:
The happy couple and their lawyers have come up with a contract that will give Holmes $3 million a year up to $33 million for each year that she is married to Cruise, as well as a palatial home in Montecito, California, according to Life & Style Weekly. If the marriage lasts longer than eleven years, the contract becomes void and California's community property law kicks in — giving Holmes half of Cruise's rather sizeable fortune.

Church of Scientology buying NASCAR sponsorship

The Church of Scientology, the religion for which actor Tom Cruise crusades, will attempt to spread its "Ignite Your Potential" message into auto racing through sponsorship of a race car in one of NASCAR's lowest levels.

Oh, so now they are targeting mainstream people, they've suckered all the celebs they can get ahold of? Seems as if they miscalculated the NASCAR fanbase. Despite the "redneck" image of the fans, they aren't stupid and they won't be easily converted.

This is correct.

What does this mean? The prenup supercedes California law? Does California have a 50-50 split after 10 years? I don't get it..but then I don't get them, either. :D

Honestly, if I were Katie, I would think he's a cheap SOB. How many kazillion millions does he have? And all her time is worth in one year is a lousy $3 million? Puhleeeze. She could make a lot more than that making movies... but instead she's devoted herself to the life and times of L. Ron Hubbard and all she's going to get is $3 million a year. I'd smack him just as soon look at him. You would think he'd offer her $10 million just for spawning his love child. Personally, I would have asked for punitive damages in the millions for just having to look at his chit-eating grin on a daily basis. Any way you look at it, he's a creep. A short aging cheap creep.

And to think Nicole walked away with $160 mil.... plus real estate. :D

Plus an acting career that took off like a rocket (and has earned her an Academy Award) after the marriage ended. She hardly acted while married to shorty. I don't think we'll be seeing much of Katie in movies in the coming years either.

I would never sign something that had a time limit on it. That is just to bizarre. It's like saying "we will be married for this length of time...." Well, if they make it to 10 or 11 years she will still be young enough to eventially find the right guy. He will be uglier then he is now as the little bit of looks he had are fading fast. Of course there will always be some young dumb girl that thinks she has caught the find of the century.

Tiny Tom has to big of an ego to ever fade away for a period of time. That producer or whatever he was is right though. The younger people of today have their own idols and there are more up and commers every day. Cruise will be an old have been in a few years. As it is he has lost a huge percentage of the female population because of his know it all attitude, his manic ways and his big mouth.

I understand what you're saying, but its the nature of prenups. The time limit usually benefits the person signing, but there are usually certain things that will also benefit the person signing. For instance, some have infidelity clauses, clauses for each new child born of the marriage, etc. When you're talking about THAT much money, I think you get used to dealing with issues (signing something before marriage besides the certificate) that us normal folks can never comprehend!!

In this case, its all good. Katie will have it made. The prenup doesn't take into consideration the amount of child support and that all by itself would make most of wet our pants. LOL The child, and the mother should the child reside with her), MUST be supported in the "lifestyle to which they've become accustomed." For any kid of Tom Cruise, that's one hell of a lot of money every month!!

Regarding celebrities. Take this for what it's worth considering the source. Sounds like Tom is trying to recruit AGAIN. The NE says Tom called Angelina and Brad to congratulate them on the birth and that the "church" wants to give her an award for her humanitarian work. She turned him down.
