Specifically, the cancer is a somewhat rare liposarcoma called a pleomorphic liposarcoma, 12cm x 12cm.

Very sad for Rob Ford and his family. Sounds like the weeks ahead will be an exceptional challenge for all of them as he goes through chemo. I wish them all strength to get through this ordeal, and of course wish for his recovery.

I'm not sure I agree with your assessment that he has a good chance to recover from this - Dr. Cohen used a lot of words like 'aggressive', 'difficult' and indicated that the form of cancer is rare enough that even the oncologists aren't able to make predictions. I pray that time proves you to be correct, though.

Absolutely, he should withdraw from the election at this point, IMO - it would be a kindness to himself, his family, and his constituents who deserve representation by someone who is able to give 100% of his/her time and focus, which surely Rob Ford cannot currently.

Rob Ford the Musical: The Birth of Ford Nation announced Wednesday night that the show will open at the Factory Theatre as planned on Thursday night despite the mayor’s cancer diagnosis.

Seems to be in rather poor taste to be carrying on with a lampoon of a man who is fighting such serious illness, IMO. Wonder how many of the ticket holders will show up? If I had purchased tickets, I would choose not to go. Would you?

I was referring to the fact that despite the size of the tumour, it is very fortunate that it is not attached to any organs, bone or muscle and that it appears that it has not metastasized to any vital organ. With prompt treatment, I think he has a better chance of recovery than someone who has presented with any of the above other complications. That said...it is an uphill battle for sure and I wish him nothing but the best for a complete recovery.

Heard that the hospital took a lung biopsy today. Maybe that's why he hasn't been released yet. JMO

While that "biopsy" was told to and reported by Joe Warmington in the Sun, apparently he did not have a lung biopsy. He also apparently did not have a tumour removed from his abdomen back in 2009. He had an appendectomy.

I don't think his diagnosis should eradicate everything that he's done both as Councillor and Mayor in the past. It doesn't change the fact that he is not a decent and honest man or any of the illegal and immoral things he has done. I hope this shot of "karma" is just what he needs to set himself back on track but he still does not deserve to benefit from it. He was not, and still is not, fit for either position regardless of his current health crisis. To not withdraw from the election as Councillor shows that he does not care about what is best for the people of Ward 2, he only cares about himself and that he remains in the public eye. Along with all the "perks" that go with the position.

Well said, Kamille - I agree.

While he's seriously ill, I think all politics should be set aside - by him and by others - and the focus should turn toward a human being fighting for his life. His illness does not excuse his bad behaviours - but good sportsmanship demands a 'time out' on calling him out on those behaviours right now (barring illegal acts, if any, for which he should still be charged if evidence indicates it is appropriate). I hope some day he's well enough again to be held accountable for his past. Just MOO.

While optimism is always in order, the specific sub-type of liposarcoma that ROFO has (according to the hospital spokesperson) is pleomorphic liposarcoma. It seems it is the most difficult of the 4 sub-types with the prognosis not as optimistic as the others:

Five-year disease specific survival rates (chances of not dying from cancer-related causes) are as follows: 100% in well-differentiated liposarcoma, 88% in myxoid liposarcoma, and 56% in pleomorphic liposarcoma. Ten-year survival rates are 87% in well-differentiated liposarcoma, 76% in myxoid liposarcoma and 39% in pleomorphic liposarcoma. However, the site of disease has a strong effect on prognosis of well-differentiated and de-differentiated liposarcoma. If these liposarcomas arise within the abdomen, complete eradication of the tumor in the long term is less common. This is probably because it is difficult for the surgeon to completely remove tumors in this location.

Elections officials asked Ford to leave after he posed for photos and talked with voters at the Driftwood Community Centre advance poll.

This is he same man who went to an advance poll just after getting out of hospital following his second round of chemo. He showed up to vote "very ill" to get sympathy. Of course it made the papers. There was no reason for him to vote when he did. There is no reason he couldn't wait until he was feeling better, which apparently he is since he's now hanging around at advance polls encouraging people to vote for him and his brother.
