Toronto mayor admits crack use

I'm so glad that Rob Ford has the rapt attention and full respect of his fellow city councillors.

If a tree falls in the forest and there's no one there to hear ..... ???

:drumroll:

You know, I'm a true bleeding heart type person, always wanting to help others, holding onto that unrealistic dream that you can change people (when I know deep down the only way they will change is if they do it themselves.) That being said, OMG, his family needs to stop enabling him and get him some help. Mental and substance abuse help. Wth man?

The look on the their faces in that photo is priceless!

This thread is hilarious.....but it's not. I have to remember this is real! You just can't make this stuff up. I went up to bed last night to watch SNL, but then remembered it was Friday night and not Saturday!

At the same time that I can't help but laugh at his antics, I also remember all the lives he is affecting with his behavior. I am in the US and I don't know anything about politics in Canada. (It's hard enough, trying to keep up with the stuff here)

After reading all this though (especially the timeline, thanks for that!), I sit here with my jaw dropped open in disbelievement, that he is still in office and they can't remove him/he hasn't been removed yet. How frustrating!

Once they get rid of this yoyo, can they change the rules so this doesn't occur again? It would be hard to match him, but when someone is put in power and they know they can get away with anything, it's pretty scary!

This guy is a walking, ticking, time bomb! Maybe they thought he would have a massive heart attack a long time ago.

And not to be outdone in the buffoon department, brother Doug has his bottle of what appears to be Grey Goose Vodka strategically placed behind him under his desk while doing his CNN interview defending his brother's actions.

So much of this IS unbelievably hilarious...until you realize that it is real. :banghead:

This morning, thre was an interview with a councilman of Toronto. He explained that the US has much better laws for city government. It was quite interseting. All they can do is remove his power ? Then they have to wait for the next election. If I can find a link,I'll post it. Maybe someone with better searching ability can.

I thought I read somewhere that he can be removed if he is charged? or convicted of a crime? It's probably convicted and of course he would drag that out, so that wouldn't get him removed any sooner than next election.

It looks like elections are not until Oct. so he has another year in office. I'm glad to at least see that he will be stripped of most of his duties. It's a shame he will still be getting that fat paycheck though. That's a lot of money for a uneducated clown.
It must be nice to get paid to "party".

My cat would do a better job at being mayor. She is very good at covering up her poop.

His background:

Here's an article. The gentleman being interviewed this am made it all very clear though.

http://www.cnn.com/2013/11/15/world/toronto-mayor-rob-ford/

I noticed in the comments of that article there is a poster who is very much a fan of RF and indicates that he represents the blue collar workers and does the job for "free" and donates his salary to charity.

To the best of my knowledge, his family own a multimillion dollar company founded by his father before the children were grown, and he's never actually held down a regular job other than as a token employee within that company. As mayor I do not believe he is still "on the books" of that company as an employee (although he likely still receives some form of payment from them "off the books"). He does not donate his mayoral salary to charity but rather his brother donates his councillor salary to charity as he is a registered owner of the family business.

Someone please correct me if I'm wrong on any of this. Because it's the misinformation like the poster on that CNN article is spreading, that leads to people like this getting elected in the first place. Apparently all the warning signs were there before he was elected. But there appears to have been many "blue collar" regular folk who bought into the hype that RF was "just like one of them". It's those people that have probably been let down the most with his actions and behaviour.

Really sorry I cannot find the interview from this morning. Canadian Law vs US law was explained so clearly.

The gentleman did say that Ford is a trust fund baby.

I’m glad the whole world now gets to see what this utterly incompetent mayor is like.

This is nothing new, he hasn’t changed his character since being elevated from councillor to mayor (although it appears he has ramped up the alcohol/drug usage) he has always been this way, and a spotlight deserves to be shone on these two Ford brothers. Can you imagine if Doug got his wish of becoming premier of Ontario - with both in positions of power, the whole province would be locked up in lunacy.

I’m not sure if this link has been posted before. It lists the police interviews and shows who’s who in the Project Traveller case. http://robfordfiles.com/

I notice it also has a map showing where various incidents took place – even including where he picked up Kentucky fried chicken during his “cut the waist” challenge (for those not in the know, he and his brother had this gigantic scale installed at city hall and took on the challenge of losing weight) as you can see, Rob failed miserably even at that, and he was pictured coming out of the fast food restaurant with “banned” food LOL :)

Looking through a list of Councillors to see if I recognize the man in the interview.

Did find this good article

http://www.insidetoronto.com/news-s...ants-rob-ford-out-of-mayor-s-job-permanently/

Thanks for posting. Taken from the above article:

The motion didn’t go far enough, given that Ford has demonstrated a pattern that includes misbehaving, denying it when confronted, launching counter attacks, offering “sanctimonious” apologies once his transgressions are proved, self-forgiveness and declarations that everyone move on, Parker said.
That sums up Rob Ford in a nutshell. Same old thing over and over, it gets tiresome

Meanwhile, “what keeps me awake at night” is Ford’s refusal, on advice from his lawyer, to co-operate with police during a criminal investigation, Parker said.
While any citizen has that right until served with a subpoena, Parker said he believes that means Ford “ceases to qualify for the office of mayor of Toronto.”
Exactly – when the mayor doesn’t cooperate with police, what message does that send out?

Doug was bragging about running for the provincial Conservatives in the next election -- until the Globe & Mail published a huge piece detailing his past as a soft-drug dealer.
Once that article came out, they dropped him like a bad habit. Also, he "chose" not to run in his own district for City Councillor and instead said he would devote all his energies to getting his brother re-elected Mayor.
From rumours of the Premier's (Governors) residence to nothing -- not even dog-catcher. In less than a year.

So Doug will not be running for Ward 2 councillor next year? Is there a link to that? I missed it.

TIA

Although not a legal resource, Huff Post has the following:

from:
http://www.huffingtonpost.ca/2013/11/01/rob-ford-radio-am-640_n_4189458.html

Ford is under no obligation to leave his position, even if charged with a crime. Municipal law makes no provision for his forced removal from office unless Ford is convicted and jailed for a criminal offence.

I heard on CBC radio today that a survey firm determined that ~ 23% of Torontonians would vote for Rob Ford if an election was held now. This stacks up as high as for anyone else.

I am absolutely gobsmacked! (I am channeling my inner Brit, using that terminology.)

Seriously? The guy has no respect for his family, himself, women, staffers, the law, civil society, etc., etc. How can anyone think he is appropriate to represent the citizens of Toronto?? Clearly he has shown he has no judgement. How can people expect him to show judgement when it comes to managing the city?

My condolences to the citizens of Toronto. (What the heck is wrong with the 23% of you?)

They all think they will save $60-$100 in taxes. Sad.

And a lot of them just don't pay attention to the news. Just like they didn't when the information about him was being printed prior to the last election.
