Trapped in crate shipped from China: Hungry, resourceful cat found in B.C.

An orange tabby-style cat has likely used up more than a few of its nine lives during an unauthorized trip from China to British Columbia. The North Cariboo District Branch of the B.C. SPCA says the emaciated, six-year-old female, shown in handout photo, was found inside a shipping container originally loaded nearly a month ago in Shenzhen, China. "The North Cariboo District Branch of the B.C. SPCA says the emaciated, six-year-old female was found inside a shipping container originally loaded nearly a month ago in Shenzhen.

The container arrived by freighter in the Port of Vancouver and was shipped to Prince George, where the unnamed cat was found amongst the pallets, shredded cardboard and foam pellets inside the container.

No food or water was available but it's believed the cat survived by licking condensation that had formed on the walls of the shipping container.

Animal control officers say the feline weighed just 1 1/2 kilograms when it was found by staff at a Prince George auto glass distribution company as they unpacked the crates."

Yes, I agree, after quarantine and a lot of TLC, I hope the poor kitty goes to a loving home.

Amazing story. And I worry if one of my cats
doesn't eat his new food for a day or so.
I also hope this cat's story helps find him a kind, loving home for the rest of his life.

Cannot post via fb, but i believe "Fizz" has since been adopted by a family.
Nanaimo SPCA seeks help with cat's $6K surgery
August 22, 2019
“Fizz is a social butterfly who loves to snuggle with people and other cats,” said Leon Davis, a Nanaimo SPCA branch manager.

Despite his debilitating pain, the orange cat has served as a calming figure to other discarded pets.

According to SPCA staff, Fizz has befriended a small, scared kitten named Snacks.

Snacks and Fizz now spend most days together snuggling in the communal cat room. Snacks has reportedly gained a large amount of confidence because of his friendship with the hearing-impaired cat. "

Isn't this about another cat than the female cat in a crate from China, as Fizz is a male street cat with ear problems. I tried to find a story about the cat in the first story, but didn't find anything older than from mid-April when she was found.

You might be right, having trouble finding a link, glad to see more than one cat rescued!

So the original cat from China has mostly recovered and is now called Journey. She is currently in foster care and expected to be available for adoption in the coming months!

"Journey is currently being fostered in Vancouver by Dr. Karen van Haaften, a board-certified veterinary behaviourist who serves as the BC SPCA’s senior manager of behaviour and welfare. With Dr. van Haaften’s expertise and care, Journey has made incredible progress."
