Oh oh oh...just a couple more bits of courtroom gossip.

The gal behind Jodi with the chin length auburnish hair and well, kind of wild clothes, is her "mitigation specialist". She's the person assigned to digging up all kinds of info on Jodi's past/family/background to help argue mitigating factors during sentencing. So she's part of the defense team. And guess what? She used to be a Victim's Advocate. "Someone" said to me today "I don't understand how anyone could make that switch".

And the other blond that's bopping around the courtroom--long blond hair--is an asst. to the bailiff or something like that.

Ok gonna post my impressions from today. This was a very somber day in so many ways for me and for all of us.

I got to court early and got right in. The Deputy recognizes me now and I just said I was there at the invitation of the Victim Advocate and showed her card and got right in. I first sat on the aisle behind Travis family then thought better of that position and moved to the end of that row. The Victim Advocate Nicole came and sat with me.

I also had a long talk before court started with the brother of a murder victim named Jake Orbin. His brother was Jay Orbin and married this platinum blond showgirl named Marjorie who ultimately murdered him and chopped up his body and...more horror. I have seen shows on this horrible crime on 48 Hrs. etc. He is there watching the trial and in support of the family just like me. We had a natural comraderie. He's a very nice fellow and we will likely become friends. He has some of the same drive I do to make some kind of difference out of a tragedy. He's raising his brother's son.

I talked also for a long time with Nicole the Victim Advocate. We know many people in common (not the least of which my former Victims Rights Atty who now works in her office!). She asked me if I had an interest in becoming a Victim Advocate and we talked about that. I've had an interest in helping victims write their Impact Statements as I do think I have a gift for writing and doing so in a way that can be more than venting but truly make an IMPACT. She said Travis' family are working on their statements right now and so I offered my assistance/support should they be interested. It would be my blessing to assist them or any victim in this way.

You all saw what I saw in court so that's nothing new. What I can say is what was palpable to me is the change in energy in the courtoom when Martinez is questioning vs. Nurmi. I said before it's like someone changes the channel from ESPN to PBS. And one of those really sedate PBS shows (not my beloved Downton Abbey). It's like you're almost sitting there waiting with anticipation for Martinez to get up and speak because the second Nurmi takes the podium it's like "come ON, spit it OUT". He entire demeanor is boring. I almost feel sorry for him. (but I don't).

Someone who will not be named told me Victoria Washington withdrew from this case for reasons that are sealed but said "I really like Victoria but I'll say she has higher ethical standards than Kirk Nurmi". Big surprise.

Nicole and I also discussed the whole chameleon like nature of a sociopath. She clearly thinks Jodi is one (as do I). How she looks so completely different now than in her previous photos. I hate to say it but in her blonde photos we've all seen I do think she looks stunningly gorgeous. And now, she's so mousy you wouldn't pick her out of a crowd. she looks frail and mousy sitting over there.

Every person "in the know" I've asked their opinions (granted not a huge sample) thinks Jodi will testify. One said they think next week. Early next week. I think their case is going so badly and they know they are losing, they will throw this Hail Mary.

I did see Nurmi walk in today with a big brown paper bundle that looked like evidence to me. I've seen plenty of evidence packages and this is what it looked like. It looked the size you'd wrap a christmas package of a big fluffy bathrobe. That size. Not sharp edged like a box but kind of soft. Hmmmm...

Jury does seem attentive. I almost ended up on the elevator with them. But did end up on one with Det. Flores and his wife and some others and we all had to get off because the doors weren't closing (imagine ME getting stuck on an elevator with HIM..lol).

Saw Beth briefly. She's always so friendly. Saw my friend Mike Kiefer. he's also quite chatty so passing me little tidbits.

I did post that I saw Martinez approach Travis sister (the younger one who first ran out of court yesterday) and had a very close conversation, she speaking directly in to his ear. Both were smiling as they parted.

I'll review my notes and see if I forgot anything.

I will be going ALL day Monday and afternoons Wed and Thurs next week. Ahhhh the pleasures of being self employed...don't hafta ask the boss.

Feel free to ask any questions or put me on assignment for anything you'd like me to check out or ask next week. I'd be happy to help in any way I can. :seeya:

PS. Edited to add--I gave Nicole the card to give the family and she said she was going to do it at lunch. She also asked if I'd put my contact info on there and that she was going to read and show them my Victims Impact Statement (as it is online).

Thank you so much for sharing the goings on inside the courtroom today.
I'd also like to thank you for all you do for victims families. So often they are the forgotten ones.
I hate how Travis is being trashed by the defense. It breaks my heart for him and his family.

I am familiar with the Orbin case. She says she's innocent, but I believe she is guilty and just plain evil.

As we were driving down the street Travis' sisters and BIL were crossing the street in front of us. We stopped (hubby was with me) and Tanisha looked and smiled. The courtroom lighting and cameras don't do them justice, they're quite striking in person.

This is false. You can edit EXIF data in Photoshop. You can change meta information by changing the computer clock when the file is altered.

I'm not referring to the data displayed on the photo or on a user interface such as a windows explorer, I'm referring to the timestamp included in the ObjectID which is usually about 12 bytes long and is uneditable. Is this not standard with ObjID's I believe it is. Usually it's a long string of bytes that looks like random garbage but actually encapsulates data in an encrypted fashion. Apology if this is incorrect. But I believe it's how they were able to verify time stamps from the photos Jodi tried to erase that never even had time stamps on them.

But I will agree that there are ways to deceive the system if the forensic team is not digging deep enough. I can see where the sys clock may alter things - i would also think there is a way to tell if the image was sourced/altered on the device it was found (ie computer) or copied there from another storage device. If sourced there then hopefully forensics are checking the system for any time changes, etc. I think when I originally responded to the post I was addressing the question of what I would call "topical" data. If it had been altered and was incongruent with underlying data stored at the object level, then in that case I would think a good forensic could determine tampering. That's really the lines I was thinking along.

ah ha!! yeah, they do seem to be hopelessly meandering through murky waters.

it sickens me to see Travis maligned like that.. just so wrong.. and the thing is, THEY know that.. how they can sleep, eat, smile is beyond me..

I agree! It made me sick to my stomach to think that I actually posted a comment last night viewing them as 'human' stating that I felt sorry for them... I retract that comment and if I could find it I would delete it!!

I think forensics tools can do a lot more than what we normally can do. But when you check properties, check the "DETAILS" tab and not just the GENERAL tab. The DETAILS tab (within PROPERTIES) has an ORIGIN section and there is a date in there. See if that is the true date. Check other fields there too....lots there.

true, actual forensics tools would kick my comps bootay..

i checked "origin" and it says 06/04/2008 03:15 AM (again with the daylight savings time adjusted - probably a setting i overlooked) .. and also the
"file" says 06/04/2008... however, it has the actual time i set the camera to, which was 4:15 AM...

Worse than this is the fact that they will write a book about Jodi and get to retire early with the revenue.

seems like you were being a normal person; with a sense of humanity, compassion, and able to look past the defense game they're playing.. but i also totally get where you're coming from on the flip side o' that! ;)

Anyone see TA's friend Zion on NG tonight? He's being very polite (I'd love to hear the off camera version), but he's saying a couple of the guys were going to go spend a day/night in Mexico surfing and guess who invited herself?? He said they tried everything to make it too difficult for her to go (i.e. well we have to get up REAL EARLY at 4am to leave soooooo...) but of course nothing was going to stop her from tagging along! Ick - she's always been a total STAGE 5 CLINGER!!!!! lol

And I still wanna know what all the hub-bub behind closed doors was all about!! What else were they trying to pull???? The Judge has to know the exhibit flahsing snafu was on purpose and I can only hope she starts sanctioning them for any other BS here on out! She won't but maybe that false hope will calm my nerves this weekend!!

It is my understanding the phone sex recording was being played. That is when the courtroom was cleared. I don't know if it was already in evidence, or was being asked to be admitted. Once they were finished everyone who had been in court earlier got to go back in.

The photo flashing trick by the defense was later when the computer expert was on the stand.

HTH

Katie, for your benefit...

today we were all waiting around after lunch when the legal wrangling was going on. All anybody could see from the feed was the bench with the Great Seal of the State of Arizona. All kinds of comments were made, next thing you know, some smart butt did this...

I'm watching him this very moment. I'm finding him quite hilarious! He's kind of confronting Nancy on the "media" and she's the media! Loved it when he said "all this proved is that Lisa was 19 and Travis was 30".

Good point about Deanna Reed (or is it Reid?) being a potential previous owner and was retained as the computer name if unchanged.

Admittedly, today of all days I was unable to "plug in". And technology is my background do I would have been most interested in this part of testimony.

It's all on YouTube if you would like to see it:

What trial are these reporters watching????????

http://abcnews.go.com/US/jodi-arias-boyfriend-lied-sex-lewd-photos/story?id=18368010

Accused murderer Jodi Arias was kept away from the Mormon friends of her lover Travis Alexander and their torrid sex affair was kept secret by Alexander, even as he sent lewd photos of himself to her online, according to court testimony today.

The testimony in Arias' trial for killing Alexander in 2008 was intended to bolster the defense's argument that she killed him in self defense, that Alexander was a sexual deviant who treated Arias as his "dirty little secret."

Speaking of, do we know if he may come back or was that it? It'll be sad not to say g-bye!!

I sure did miss it.... Like I said I have an enclosure, probably not a whole lot of other people do other than those who work on computers. LE will have these, they will use these to make a mirror image of a hard drive They are super cheap because no hard drive is included. You can get them for as cheap as 15 bucks I am surprised Travis would have one but that is where the second internal drive comes from, You would not buy one if you did not have a drive to put in it.

Only reason I could see Travis having one is he hard an extra laptop hard drive and figured to put it to use or maybe had data on it and wanted to keep that data so then buying a cheap enclose makes sense.

Hard to believe it, though, in the time period of early-to-mid 2007. External hard drives and portable drives were not nearly as common as they are now. And to have an internal drive in a separate case in 2007 - I think very few people outside of techs had them.
