HHJP "Our potential jurors are not grist for the grist mill"
(Was misquoted and put in print incorrectly for days by everyone!)
grist/grist/Noun - Grain that is ground to make flour.
grist·mill/ˈgristˌmil/ Noun - A mill for grinding grain.

The judge showed his DEEP knowledge by using this statement IMHO as the proverb "all is grist for the mill" means "everything can be made useful, or be a source of profit."

The judge used this statement when he then followed with
HHJP Jury voir dire was never meant to profit either side, and it's a dirty little secret that lawyers don't discuss

Jurors are not grits for a grits meal.

ETA: Okay, so it's grist for a gristmill.

Man, I love this Judge!! I would love to have him for lunch sometime and give a lecture to my school children.

That one was MY favorite!

The ever-intriguing Baez Law Dictionary:

Mitigating factors are factors that mitigate.

(Look that up in your Funk and Wagnalls, jurors.)
