trial day 44: the defense continues its case in chief #134

That sounds like the X-Files theme playing on Alyce's cell phone when it goes off in court lol

I'm dying to see an x-ray, but some wise sleuths pointed out that it may not be a good thing for the prosecution if that finger had in fact been broken at some time in the past. The number of stories of how the injury occurred lead me to believe it would be a fairly safe bet that it would not show a break. It's still a bet.
I've seen plenty broken fingers ... but none that look like that. Travis did not break her finger. Can you imagine the crying if he did. He also would have taken her for treatment. This should have been noted by her boss at work (wherever that was). Was she ever working a full time job, anywhere?

I'm pretty sure we are looking at a torn finger tendon. This occurs when a deep cut happens. She showed Flores that finger and it had cuts on it...near the joint.

I've entertained that thought too (going to Cancun then being rejected) but then the car rental time-line wouldn't fit in.

True, she could've told the agent one thing (returning car on 6/6) especially after lying to him to begin with (saying she wanted it to run errands around town) and do another but to rent a car for that amount of time would've cost her a lot of money, no?

I still think there was someone else involved. Perhaps she had a back-up plan and was going to have the rental car stolen?.....like her grandfather's gun/DVD player?

My gut tells me Matt and/or Gus were involved.
The fact that she called Gus the night she killed Travis, to tell him that Travis was dead doesn't bode well with me.
Why?.....why would she call Gus to tell him that? He was a work associate of hers, not a BFF!
I just can't tie it all together.

Then we have Matt.
Somewhere during Jodi's cross-exam she said something about not being able to contact Matt until he got 'there'. Where's 'there'????

If Travis told her she could go to Cancun, she would have either made arrangements to turn it into a Budget location in Mesa or just left it parked and worried about the bill later... She wasn't wise with her funds, and racking up a bill wasn't as big a deal as Mexico.

BBM Do you remember their reasoning for saying this? This is the finger she claims Travis broke when he kicked her. It would go to clearing Travis' name, and once again, showing she lied to Alyce. I would think it would be good rebuttal. So, I'm curious as to what they're seeing with that being an old injury.

I could understand if they were speaking of the cuts to the fingers on her right hand. Cuts that I believe came from the night of the murder had other lies attached to them, cutting apples (Alyce), margarita glasses (bar/restaurant), and so on, too late to remember the other 2 lies.

I recall her showing that left ring finger to Flores. Did she put bandages on the right ones also. When did she stop for first aid purchases? Nevermind, she likely helped herself to Travis's medicine cabinet along with his wallet.

So according to the TA Facebook page, via USAToday.com, ALV is feeling the heat from her testimony. Boohoo for her.

On that note, I'm really going to bed now. It's almost 4am here. Good Lord. This trial has consumed me and I truly need an intervention! My days and nights are so screwed up.

My Mom died on Monday :( I have missed the trial since the and was wondering if anything worthwile has happened?

Do you have family and/or friends around you? Where are you? If you need to be around someone, and you're near me, come on over!

(Today is my mother's birthday and I just can not imagine ever being without her!)

I'm so sorry, Chijojo!

If there is any evidence of a break in an X-ray it will lend support to JA not Travis. The alledged break was almost 5 years ago... It would probably show on an X-ray looking no different than a 6, 7, 10 year old break, so there would be no way to show Travis didn't actually break it.

Hope that makes sense!

I realize that but I also think her intruder story has an element of truth to it.

I've been all over this for months now. I know what she said, how she said it and perhaps 'why' she said it but once I inject another person into this tragic event, it makes a lot more sense.

Because the mere fact that Travis let her into his house that day, blows my mind. I just can't imagine him agreeing. But I do have some wiggle room with that however, that doesn't negate the possibility that Jodi was dropped off, did her thing (lured him to bed then) pretended to leave.....sneaked back as an intruder (taking clandestine photos from the closet) with a cohort then attacked him.

I don't believe she parked her rental car in his driveway as she stated (because the roommate didn't see an extra car) nor do I believe she parked it down the street and walked nonchalantly with a gun, knife and blood gambling the chance of not being seen.
I know she has moxie but I can't fathom anyone having THAT much, ya know?
Prisons are filled with men and women with just that kind of moxie though. She didn't have a cohort. There's no evidence of one whatsoever on the day of the murder and I don't need to posit one to explain Jodi's moxie (love the word, btw). She's a narcissist who believed she would get away with it because she was smarter than everyone else, so she didn't bat an eye at taking the risks she took - indeed, she thought herself to be an Einstein - but she's not. She killed Travis. Alone. He was vulnerable in the shower and she took full advantage of that, then disposed of the evidence and concocted her stupid ninjas story. I'm sure she thought it was genius. It wasn't.

The pattern has been repeated in a plethora of other murders: murderer thinks s/he's smarter than LE, murderer gets caught, tells lame story, cops and jury LOL @ story, murderer goes to prison.

IMO

Well God Bless you darlin'. :( I'm so very sorry for your loss. I lost my mother July 17th, 2010 and I'm still not over it. Other than losing a child, I think losing your mother is the hardest thing we girls have to go through in life. I was 54 when I suddenly lost my mother and she had been my best friend for all my life.

Hang in there chijojo, you've got a very good support group in all the lovely people here at WS.

(((((((hugs)))))))

That is nothing short of blackmail from the killer.

This -----------> http://grahamwinch.files.wordpress.com/2013/01/jodiariasngfile.pdf is despicable.

It's like driving over and over again to visit the same guy, 500 miles away, then calling rape!!
Is she insane on top of being mentally bankrupt?

Are defense teams THAT delusional and hard up just for the almighty dollar?
How anyone could EVER take this case is just as difficult to grasp as Jodi's tenacity on June 4th!
These folks (Nurmi, Wilmott, Samuels, LaViolette, Searcy and Arias) deserve one another! And if their conscious don't get 'em then karma will!!

Love you for your opinion :) but.............there's no evidence to support that because in part, there was a deliberate clean-up attempt. Plus, someone wearing 'gloves' as Jodi stated would also result in no evidence. There was however, a shoe print that was never identified by the way.

It's my feeling there's no evidence because the State didn't present any other possible scenario. They don't want ANY speculation in this case (like Casey Anthony) so they are basing their case with what they know. They don't want to muddy the water.

There could've easily been someone else there. Why not? A window screen to a back window was found on the ground and taken into evidence. Why couldn't someone have shimmied up, entered in and assisted in the killing?

Just because there's no pictures doesn't mean it couldn't have gone down like that.
I think we became conditioned into this one scenario because that's what is being presented. Again, that doesn't mean that's how it happened.

I personally think the shoe print was from Jodi making a final trip back through the bedroom/bathroom area looking for the camera. I think this because she claimed she had no shoes on when she came out of her "fog."

Perhaps. Unlikely but, who knows.

The fact that she bought two sunscreen lotions (at 10-dollars each) has ALWAYS thrown me. Even if she WAS planning to visit Cancun, ordinarily one bottle would suffice. And it's a very unlikely item to be-gift Travis

There's a huge piece of this puzzle missing! I am 99.9% certain, we do not have the full story. And we (the audience) aren't privy to what the State knows, has on her or might present. For all we know they might have Matt McCarthy stashed away as a rebuttal witness to shed some light on Jodi. Who knows?

It's a shame so much time passed between the killing (June 4th) and Ms Arias' search warrant (July 15th). It enabled her plenty of time to get rid of items that might've helped paint a more accurate depiction of what really happened.

Probably already mentioned somewhere in these 40 pages, but I just got up because I can't sleep a wink....

I heard on HLN tonight, Beth Karas I think, that the defense has another witness on their list after ALV. Do we have any real info on who this witness might be?

Also, does anybody think Jodi's "manifesto" will ever be released to the public? I would like to read it just to see what the psycho wrote in there! :what:

I finally saw the part in the trial where the witness says she would give him a time-out if he were in her group.".....boy oh boy...she is something else.
