She's probably more than borderline. It's pretty rare to have just one Cluster B disorder and not present symptoms of other mental health diagnoses too.

Carnell thinks she's antisocial/psychopathic in addition to borderline. I agree. And she tips the scales of the MMPI, the often preferred psych test for forensic evaluations, which tests for 10 different scales - depressive, psychopathic, etc. (Using laymen's terms) A score of 65 is considered significant. Jodi scored 65 in 7 of 10 scales. Making comorbidity (or multiple mental health diagnoses) even more likely. I'd missed that testimony, so double thanks Carnell. (DD's 13th birthday is today and I'm busy cake decorating, blowing up balloons, etc.)

Exactly. It's very natural to feel empathy or even sympathy for an abused or homeless child. It's a HUGE stretch for me to even consider feeling sorry for someone who did what JA did, even if it was legitimate self defense. She destroyed Travis' body. Even if he was a monster, there is NO reason in the world to use the force that JA did. Anyone who feels sorry for her must be broken somehow.

And don't forget that she was there to assess not to do therapy - big difference. In assessment one must be impartial - doesn't mean you can't feel.

What was Jodi doing during court all day? She never looked at the witness. Instead it appeared that she was copying material from a book, writing onto another sheet. Anyone know I watched all day and couldn't figure it out.

I still think she is drawing things to call art and to sell to some suckers out there. Sadly, there is a subclass of people who think items by killers are valuable and will pay a lot of money for their doodles and other scribbles and she thinks she has discovered a gold mine.

And THAT'S how a professional shows compassion! She doesn't insert herself into a client's personal life, prompting a personal, familiar relationship. If your job is to collect data, then you collect data. You don't become personally INVOLVED in a patient's life! That's ABUSIVE.

I see a doctor on a regular basis. We don't sit around and jaw for 44 hours and he doesn't send me presents. He acts like a doctor.

You are exactly right. We had a child welfare case in my state that was featured on a national TV show it got so convoluted and for just that reason! A therapist evaluated a neglected child who had been removed from her mother's custody. She felt such compassion for the child that she applied to be her foster mother. This should never have been allowed. She ended up getting so attached that she fought the state which wanted to return the child to her mother who had gotten her act together, gotten married to a stable man with a good job and a house, and was doing very well. There were court battles and appeals but the child was reunited with her mother.

I didn't catch it, but it doesn't surprise me! She admitted giving NG the bird in one of her early tweets, but then her little friend from jail who is tweeting for her said "oh Jody was just pushing up her glasses - not giving the finger" blah blah blah. Wish someone would call her out on it. Wish the jurors were close enough to see her little gestures!

I think I absolutely loathe HLN. I can't stand that it took from 11am cst to 9pm to see today's trial coverage. Is there a nonstop coverage online or iPad app that's free without all the dang commercials and pauses? Please let me know if there is something better than HLN. I'm so done with them. In the Medical Modal for Evaluations or Psychosocial Assessments, Therapists use an Axis format. Though Social Workers use a different format, Goal oriented format.

Axis I: The presiding or current problem
Axis II: personality Disorder
Axis III: General medical Condition (Dr fills this out)
Axis IV: Psychosocial and Environmental Factors contributing to disorder (divorce, death, moving from family home, etc)
Axis V: Social Function, i.e. able function on a daily level

Now, what I was attempting to say (DX is diagnosis by the way. Dx progress note lingo oooooops regress back to them old days)

On Axis II, the therapist/psychologist can have more than one Dx (shorthand) if it is warranted.

However, The Borderline personality Disorder (I don't know acronyms us old foggies didn't use them back "then") may be many. However, the Dx we very very smart Websleuthers know she is (whisper antisocial / psychopath) did not apply in the DT Direct testimony and/or was too prejudicial.

The other possible Dx's just didn't apply because it was not brought into evidence during Defense's Direct Case in Chief.

I hope this makes a bit more sense and less Progress note (ish). I apologize.

I may have understood some of this. Forgive my ignorance. I am from those long ago days too. So in rebuttal, JM cannot have Dr. deMarte give a diagnosis of antisocial/psychopath? that is what I have been waiting for.
And is that what BPD is or is BPD a whole combination of disorders? See, this new language used is way over my head. Back in the days, there weren't so many words used were there?

Just caughtbup with todays testimony and I am just so happy about today. This young lady knows her stuff. I was so excited over the knife comment. Brilliant move by JM. There were a couple points she could have been a little more clear, but all in all I think both Dr.D and JM were amazing!! I am sure the jury grateful for the clear questions and clear, informative, short, non-rambling answers. All in all I say today was a win!

Hi All, I am an attorney (not yet verified by Websleuths). I watched JW's cross today and I am underwhelmed. I guess the point that JW is trying to make is that Dr. D. is inexperienced... but JW is falling short and the result is that Dr. D. simply is getting more opportunities to expound on her experience and education. Notice that JW seems to be asking questions that allow the witness to talk, rather than "directing" the testimony as Juno an does on cross.

Whether you like Juan's style or not, from an attorney's standpoint, he is phenomenal at controlling a witness on cross. Cross-exam is a very tough skill that many attorneys will never perfect in their careers, but Juan does it. He also seems to have a slight or partial photographic memory. His ability to recall dates, specific phrases, specific incidents, previous testimony, etc is incredible and rare.

Sounds like a websleuther and all that info we have in our heads.

It's amazing to watch this man. He's fully vested in restoring some dignity to Travis and his good name. You go Juan

Wasn't she though?!! :great: My husband was literally glued to the t.v. today and was practically jumping for joy! He kept asking me while I was flitting around the house "ARE YOU WATCHING THIS?" Dr. D is so professional and such a direct contrast to AVL! I thought JW's cross was very weak and just fell flat and so did the hubs. I couldn't believe she asked Dr. D if she could have supervised ALV (because she wouldn't have been born yet or something to that effect). I literally laughed out loud at how lame that was!

Willmott & Co. clearly misunderstood and/or misinterpreted a comment JM made during his direct of Dr. D.--had to do with Dr. D. training/supervising individuals with masters level degrees in social work, marriage and family counseling, etc. He asked if ALV would have been the type of person that Dr. D. would have supervised and she said yes. Willmott objected.
