It's Yiddish for "crazy." It's my diagnosis, and I'm sticking to it. It's based on my opinion, which is based on my experience wth mashugana behavior. I wouldn't say it was subjective, though, rather, it is rooted in a wider range of training and experience.

So you would agree that you are not an expert on mashugana behavior. Right? :floorlaugh:

I read discussion here yesterday until the lunch recess but was out of the loop for the remainder of the trial. I watched a local sentencing (Sandra Layne) and then watched the FBI presser re: the Boston explosions. But for Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy! from 7-8:00PM, DH and I were glued to CNN coverage of the newly-released suspect photos. We went :offtobed: shortly after 11:00.

Has anyone posted a summary of yesterday's court proceedings? From reading a few posts, I gather that Juan was able to redirect Dr. DeMarte, and that the witness also answered juror's questions. Anything else noteworthy? I know there's no trial today or Monday.

Lots going on in Boston right now.

Do we know (I don't) how Dr. D knew about the Christmas tree event? This was the first I had heard of it. As was said on either NG or Dr. Drew last night, there are apparently many stunts that JA pulled that we have never even heard about. I don't get why these haven't been allowed in. Hopefully more will come out in rebuttal.

I mean, hiding behind a Christmas tree, can you imagine? :what:

The whole story was that Travis had about 30 guests with family visiting & staying over, and Jodi showed up unannounced. Travis told her she couldn't stay--there wasn't room. She then decided to SLEEP UNDER THE CHRISTMAS TREE. And this is BEFORE they started dating!

There is a form of ASPD that is comorbid with BPD (so you'd have both) that is more common in women than men (the BPD part). Maybe that's what she meant.

Researchers think it may be a different form of ASPD that occurs in women more often than men. I read it called the female equivalent of ASPD. ASPD does involve a lot of fistfights or jailtime, so I do think that Dx is skewed toward diagnosing males better than females. There probably really is a 'female equivalent' because ASPD overemphasizes those listed features, imho.

But BPD is not at all directly equivalent to ASPD, nope.

Thanks, Writer, you are so correct! I probably should have stayed out of the discussion as I'm not a pro. :seeya:

That's one of the things that I can't understand and find so troubling, that this DT knows full well that JA was stalking Travis, they know. Yet here they are flat out denying / lying about it in a court of law. How is that not considered unethical, it certainly is in my book.

Yeah they know, but I understand their denial of it. The courts rule some aspects relating to defendents as too prejudicial. This is where I am far more troubled. If the defendent engaged in such behavior by free will, IMO, it should be introduced as the behavior portrays a portion of who the defendent is. The stalking in this case, I believe to be a critical aspect of defining what the defendent is and what the victim, Travis Alexander, had to face prior to being murdered. I really have a problem with this stalking issue being ruled too prejudicial.

All these claims that she was a photographer are absurd. She took pictures with a digital camera--even children can do that. She didn't know that deleted photos could be accessed. On the stand she said that they could be accessed again "for a lot of money"--which is totally incorrect. There is free software that does just that.

RSBM Heck, Boycie took these pictures himself. He even set the timer. He is currently writing the midterm exam for one of my classes. I've asked him for his opinion regarding Jodi's photography, but he refuses to evaluate it, claiming that "it fails to meet basic compositional standards."

kaRN, I know a lot about the discipline of Pysch/MH but law not so much...So here is my question, if you know. Why would the scales of a testing instrument be too prejudical if the results (dx) of the instrument can be allowed in court...I'm truly lost on this one. BTW she had other very telling elevated scores that could, if misinterpreted or misunderstoo, provide her an out (if a juror is leaning for a reason to excuse someone), do you think that's why they didn't go in that direction. TIA
Re BBM- I think that's exactly why. No need to confuse a jury when the legal definitions of insanity don't apply no matter how elevated she is in 7/10 scales. But I'm an RN not a lawyer so it's just my :twocents:
I'm suspecting it's the diagnoses that were deemed too prejudicial, not the testing methods in any case. For the DT allowing in evidence that would suggest JA was an actual or potential predator more than a probable victim didn't serve their case. The State doesn't need an expert to tell the jury what they already sense or see in JA IMO. We had her (correctly) diagnosed here months before we heard the testimony and we don't have the advantage of seeing her in person the way the jurors do.
I think it's also possible JA didn't agree to allow full disclosure. They are confidential records after all and she's still IUPG. She didn't skip a beat when she denied she had a mental condition to the juror question. Denial, denial denial.

I'm wondering if we won't hear all about the full test results in the mitigation phase though.

I doubt that....lol...it was a party she wasn't invited to....not sure why she showed up...or...where she lived at the time...and I believe it was Travis who told her she could not stay as there was no room for her....so she found a spot on the floor under the tree....this is what I heard before....

Just wondering about the wording by Dr. D...didn't she say Jodi was hiding under or behind the tree??.?.?

Was the party at Travis's?

Is there ANY inside information or really strong "indication of" how the Defense feels about their client Jodi?

Not just "us" saying I bet they can't wait to get rid of her :)

But any real info even a source close to them blah blah even if it's rumor.
Not for anything other than my curiosity. I am wondering if they just love this girl and Willmott thinks of her as a battered little sister and she hates Travis? Or is Willmott playing a role...

IMO... I think the DT is just playing a role. I believe that they know the truth, but they are just doing their jobs.

I think they invented the abuse for the self defense theory and that Nurmi inserted the pedophilia claim (that's his specialty) they just forgot to make it the reason (ya right) that Travis attacked her because she would out him.

I believe JA lied to them and said she had to defend herself THAT day and gave them most of the details of the killing.

After hearing JW slip up about details during the fog, I strongly believe that they know all details during the fog and applied the fog, where needed, for her defense.

I also think that they play very dirty ( hence DT) and they use lies, added changed and non existent journal entries, and blatant deceitful claims to try and discredit the state and its witnesses.

They play as dirty as they can as long as they continue to get away with it.

Regardless of how they feel, I don't think they can ever come out and say anything negative about JA or it could cause issues for appeal. Can anyone confirm?

Plus she came bouncing in and announced herself as Travis's girlfriend and he said nope not all all and there is no room at the inn. And she stayed that's what gets me. I would of been so embarrassed, but then again I wouldn't do anything that stupid.

I'd be interested in what witnesses folks would like to be called. For instance, Jodi claimed she left Salinas/Monterey and went to Pasadena [a 5 hrs. drive] ostensibly to take pics of Darryl's daughter's new baby. When she arrived, she couldn't reach the new mother, her calls were not returned, and she proceeded on her journey....which just so happened included taking I-10 E straight to Mesa. I'd like to hear from Darry's daughter about whether she knew Jodi was coming and why she didn't return Jodi's calls, if even made.

Deb, I think it was Darryl's sister who had the baby. But I also have thought this was a lie of Jodi's to have a supposed reason to be going to LA.

But I am sure the police must have checked this out, and if the sister had not heard of any plans of a visit by Jodi, they would have brought her in as a witness and that right there would prove premeditation.

Yet they haven't used her as a witness, so I am wondering if she lied for Jodi/Darryl or Jodi did really call her and set up an excuse for being in LA.

I have thought all along Darryl has been hiding things. Like the 'remote' JA returned that day after she left his house. If Jodi 'sold' him a DVR, this would also prove premed, yet Juan only mentioned that and never pursued it. Either Darryl was willing to lie about this, or maybe there is more to come. I hope so.

just listening again to JW try to cross examine JDM. wants to use the 'anger subscales.'

JDM: 'that would be an inappropriate use of the MMPI.'

JW: 'well, let's take a look at them anyway.'

JDM: 'they're uninterpretable.'

and JW plows on!!

BBM
That was the best example of JW's lack of knowledge!!
