Witness is excused.

I think he was beneficial to the defence case, myself.

Couldn't 'screaming' and 'crying' be the same thing. People hearing the same sounds and just interpreting it with a different word?

I looked up the definition of 'screaming' and it says "give a long, loud, piercing cry or cries expressing extreme emotion or pain".

Absolutely. I think that's exactly what's happening. Someone can hear the same thing and interpret it differently. If someone is distraught and crying and they let out a wail, it can sound like a scream of sorts, especially from far away, I'd imagine. Personally, I don't think it's super important. Just a bit of nit pickery.

Testifying in "Tswana"

Wikipedia: Tswana or Setswana is a language spoken in Southern Africa by about 6.1 million people. It is a Bantu language belonging to the Niger–Congo language family ...

Didn't catch the name of this witness. Anyone know who she is?

  • #191
I am going to call her NW for neighbour wife, for want of anything else.

  • #192
I think it's Michael's wife.

I am going to call her NW for neighbour wife, for want of anything else.

Is this Mr N's wife, or is this the neighbor on the other side?

  • #194
Her house number is 287. I think that is N's house.

Nel: Defence case that if you hit door with a bat it may sound like gunshot. And that door was broken down with at least 3 bats. You never heard that.
N: Never heard 3 blows. When he gave statement based on what he heard. Didn't hear other things.

They obviously sleep very deeply - lucky them!

Mrs Hillary Nhlengethwa is the next witness and she is testifying in Tswana. @eNCAnews #OscarTrial

Oh no! The interpreter who can't speak English!!!

I have now gotten used to her accent from listening to it so much. I can understand her now, but the first time I heard her I literally could not understand a word she said

She was woken by 'A sound. Bang.'

NW: It was a very loud sound because it woke me up....I woke my husband and asked if he heard anything.

Just an observation, but the way MN seems to have given "permission" for the police to take a statement from his wife, it appears, White or black (and surely Asian too), SA society seems rather rife with very outdated machism.
Its quite customary in Zulu culture for women to be obedient and respectful towards their husbands..also, this witness seems to be quite demanding of respect at all times, making the police come to him numerous times before being satisfied he was approached in the correct manner. Definitely a Mr No Nonsense lol.

I am going to call her NW for neighbour wife, for want of anything else.

Name: Eontle Nhlengethwa (as spelt by Andrew Harding)... wouldn't it be easier for you and everyone to identify witnesses to use both initials otherwise if witnesses come in with same initial there could be misunderstandings.
