So, the police didn't check if the window was closed ? Or is that only they didn't check if it was closed "properly"...

Or were they talking about the actual seals on the glazing? How effective that was?

  • #62
Judge just said she didn't understand and asked Lin to simplify.

  • #63
Poor Masipa... and having to understand this complex subject at her age. Fortunately she has two youngsters as assistants.

  • #64
Lin agrees he didn't make a finding on the ability of anyone to differentiate between the sound of a male or female scream.

yes that's what they were talking about...how well sealed the doors and windows were ( as opposed to just open/shut).

Nel's saying that in this instance, with no exception, they identified it as a woman's voice.

Roux objects.

So in a fairly modern and luxury estate, and other neighbours who didn't hear a thing... still anyone's guess.

N: We have four people identifying the sound as a woman's voice. No exception. Did you know that?

Lin says he doesn't know how many people there were and Roux objects to Nel's statement.

R: That's not correct.

zweibel: Nah, what I meant is that I was on youtube looking for a live stream for today's testimony and I clicked onto one that usually works well for me and thought I was watching live testimony. From today. Thus my question "what happened to the cross exam of the sound expert?" And my comment about "another medical expert".

But hey, it is 4:20 am for me, so....

But then, when I read your comment about the link from there to here, I'm thinking "Wow, you mean some of the live feeds have direct links to the websleuths Oscar Pistorius thread?"

Yep. I need to go to bed now!

The timing is precisely what is going to be the dispute here.

Nel: all depends of the power of hearing of the listener ..

yes! I'm so glad he has said this because all the stats, etc, etc, mean nothing if you have someone who has particularly good hearing.

Nel knows what he is talking about, during his cross examination of this accoustics expert, what he has done is to show that none of the data that the expert has provided can be taken as proof of anything, because there are far too many variables involved. The expert provided his data as fact, Nel has now shown, through this cross examination, that it cannot be taken as actual fact.

Nel says 4 State witnesses heard woman's screams. That must be reliable. They don't know each other, haven't spoken to each other.

Lin says it's not for him (Lin) to interpret.

  • #73
L: Sorry, what distance where they?

Nel tells him.

L: I believe they heard a sound but I cannot say what they heard. That's not for me to interpret.......from a scientific viewpoint, I can't say if they were correct or incorrect.

Nel wants adjournment.

Oh, I've done that too!

Lin can't say whether they're correct or incorrect.

Nel wants 10 min adjournment. He needs to confer with his expert. Nel asks Roux how many more witnesses he has today.

Roux: 2

Wise move since he isn't going to get anywhere with Lin except look silly as Lin knows his stuff, and he's not directly favouring one side or the other anyway just putting the scientific data.

Sorry, I can't help laughing at whoop radio: 'Turgid, scientific, even pedantic....I think I'll leave it at that'.

So in a fairly modern and luxury estate, and other neighbours who didn't hear a thing... still anyone's guess.

There may be many reasons why those people did not come forward .. some may have had all their doors/windows shut (if you're house is double glazed then it pretty much blocks out all noise), some neighbours might not have even been there (away on business or holiday), some may just not have even wanted to come forward .. even Frank, who was the closest of all the neighbours does not appear to want to testify .. and he surely must've heard the shots? People can dispute screams, etc, etc, but it cannot be disputed that a gun was fired, and if neigbours did not come forward because they didn't hear anything then it wasn't because nothing happened and there were no sounds, because quite clearly there were sounds .. four loud bangs, for definite!
