David Smith @SmithInAfrica · 17s Derman: "There was a mention of running before he got to the corridor and then at some stage mention of running back to the bedroom."

#OscarTrial Derman: says he asked Pistorius how he moved, and then to run as fast as he could. BB

  • #183
D: When he runs, he does hold the right leg at a particular angle, especially the left leg...

  • #184
N: you are the expert.

Prof D: I am not an expert in the record :floorlaugh:

I really feel the video coming. All Nel's questions are pointing that way.

Never mind - the doctor was referring to moving, walking and running. Nel wants it to mean that OP ran with is hand on the structure. I guess the doctor is not contradicting himself after all

In the video, OP ran on his stumps down the middle of a long room, without holding on to a wall, right arm outstretched in front of him, right hand positioned as holding a gun, left hand slightly extended to side and back. No appearance of difficulty balancing.

  • #187
Nel: when he demonstrated to you, he ran with hips and shoulders to the front, without rotational movement of hips, right?

WD says OP does run at an angle when on stumps.

Nel asked Derman whether he had seen? knew about? OP walking backward. Derman said no. (The first time I saw OP walk backwards was in the "leaked videos." I wonder whether Nel is alluding to that.)

  • #189
N: Did you not see him running with his right hand lifted up?

D: No.....I suppose so (would be possible) but it would be difficult to balance like that.

Derman concedes he doesn't know though, if OP could run like that or not.

#OscarTrial Derman: when he runs his left leg turn so he doesn;t put pressure on the problematic pad. BB

But they weren't talking about the video - they were talking about whatever demonstration OP did for Dr D. And although I haven't seen the video, I still say that Oscar moving quickly on his stumps is not the same as running with two complete legs and feet and tendons and calf muscles, etc

Nel asks if it would be difficult for OP to balance. Derman, holding out right arm: "I didn't see him run like this."

  • #193
Play the video already! Or have OP do a demonstration in court

  • #194
Nel's on to startle responses and FF now. (fight/flight).

N: Possible survival tool we have as humans?

D: Yes

N then asks would it enable person to run faster/be strong etc. Derman says yes to all until Nel asks if it would cause a person 'to be aware of everything around them' and then D goes into a medical lecture, says pple 'stop thinking'.

N: There was at least an option for accused to flee, walk out of the room?

D: There is indeed that option.

You are correct, Nel is not talking about the video, but he is talking about what the doctor says OP is able or not able to do which is in conflict to what is on the video.

I don't think anybody here believes he can run in the same manner as an able bodied person so I don't see why there's any need to qualify the definition of running. He can move quite fast on his stumps and even OP described himself as running.

Nel returns to flight or fight response. It would cause you to run faster than normal, be more powerful, be more vigilant?

Nel: This flight or fight response is present in all people? Derman: It is indeed.

Nel: There was at least an option for OP to flee/even walk out the room? Derman: There is that option.

(Nel's voice sounds quivery)
