He doesn't answer the ultimate question - is it reasonably possible that OP thought he was entitled to use force in private defense.

Has this professor stated an opinion elsewhere?

I suggest you rewatch Sean Rens's testimony.

Maybe she was questioning whether OP was still emotionally attached to the earlier girlfriend as he had kept mementos on display even though the relationship was over and RS now was his girlfriend? Possibly she was a little insecure but goes on to say "that was then and not now" to indicate she will accept it was something in the past and he should do the same.

Yes, I agree 100%.

This horse has been beaten to death and I'm going to move on after this, but I think I figured out why the conversation was so confusing to me. I was never really concerned with what the specific "rabbit things" were (as it is clear to me that they were something related to a past relationship because she wondered who he had a connection with regarding them but will dismiss it because that was then and this is now). What was bugging me was that the conversation jumped around and was all over the place.

What occurred to me is that while responses were being typed, additional shorter texts were sent by the other person. Then when the response (that actually appeared after other texts had already been sent) was read, a reply was being typed as the other person sent additional shorter texts. Realizing that, this is how I think the conversation took place:

RS to OP: Baba

OP to RS: Yes.

RS to OP: There are a lot of things that could make us both feel like s**t.

OP to RS: I know. It was just when you got back from tropica you made it sound like you had only smoked weed once and then last night that came out. I don't know how many times you took or if you took other things or what you did when you were on them

While OP was typing the above response, Reeva sent:

RS to OP: I'm just very honest

RS to OP: I won't always think before I say something just appreciate that I'm not a liar.

RS to OP: I'm sorry if it upset you it wasn't my intention

After he sent his first text, he read her additional texts and responded to this one:

RS to OP: I won't always think before I say something just appreciate that I'm not a liar.

OP to RS: I do appreciate it. could never be with someone that was

RS to OP: Me neither

Then she went back to her first thought about how they both do things that non-intentionally hurt each other's feelings (her smoking weed in Jamaica and thinking she may have slept with other men there hurt his feelings, just as the "rabbit things" hurt her feelings):

RS to OP: There are a lot of things that could make us both feel like s**t.

RS to OP: It's like I see rabbit things in your house and when we go places you take pics of them everywhere. For me I'm thinking who do you have that connection with? And the same things will play on your mind. At the end of the day this is now not then

Then she replied to his earlier response regarding how this whole argument originated:

OP to RS: I know. It was just when you got back from tropica you made it sound like you had only smoked weed once and then last night that came out. I don't know how many times you took or if you took other things or what you did when you were on them

RS to OP: I wasn't a stripper or a ho

RS to OP: I certainly have never been a prude and I've had fun but all innocent and without harmful repercussions.

I'm probably the only one who couldn't get past the non-cohesive flow of the conversation, but now that it makes sense to me, I'm done lol.

for me either.

Surely they could have asked him about how the two of them were generally and did he hear or see anything of an argument previously. He could have been called as a character witness for the defence even, but no niente!

Frank's silence is deafening.

OP is sitting on Twitter right now, posted 3 things today, pics of him w kids, quote about God, some book page about the power of love... A bit random. Does he think its all over, or what?

.. what an idiot, posting stuff on twitter while he is on trial .. on trial for murder at that. Isn't that breaking some kind of condition?

  • #707
.. he's going to regret it as there are already a number of replies calling him a murderer ( along with the crazy Pistorians wanting him to follow them .. they need their heads seeing to).

I was asking if anyone knew if Professor Grant has given an opinion on guilt/innocence?

Here's a quote from a recent post by James (Pg.#27 - Post #660) whereby a commenter on the Prof's twitter page had asked the same Q as you:

James Grant
‏@CriminalLawZA
@makeitcountfor "O My head won't allow me to call it - I'd wanna see all the evidence again. My gut tells me Oscar is in trouble."

:floorlaugh: I'm an equestrian so that smiley always tickles me.

Also, makes me recall my father saying "when the horse you're riding dies... get off."

Hmm.. sounds to me like he's trying to be his own character witness.

I don't suppose he's posting any photos of his gf, is he?

I've been wondering if the one we heard about is still with him after all those text messages and "Oscar behaving badly" things came out in court.

I do think it strange that OP was not asked why he didn't call Frank to help, instead of phoning someone who wasn't even a close neighbour.

Agreed. That's at the top of my list of things I want to know the answer to.

As I've said before, I know next to nothing about Frank. Is he by chance very elderly? Has a disability? idk

The caption on the photo collage is "You have the ability to make a difference in someone's life".

You've certainly done that, Mr Pistorius.

Someone posted that maybe he should make a difference in the Steenkamp's life by admitting the truth and facing justice, i wholeheartedly agree.

Since so little is known of Frank and due to the fact that he hasn't even been mentioned in the court room i'm seriously starting to wonder if he was just Oscar and Carice's imaginary friend.

  • #715
Frank has a lot to answer for... I believe reeva arrived 10 mins before op that night I think Frank let her in the house and I would have thought that having a live in housekeeper would have made reeva feel safe
Shame on you Frank

James83 - Roux did bring his name up in court but said the Defence would not be calling him. Now why would the defence not call someone who lived in the same house at the time of the shooting and was up and dressed and out the front before Carice arrived. There is only one reason that I can think of - he was a time bomb!! I am sure nobody believes he heard nothing.

Totally agree, the fact of the matter is when The Standers arrived Frank was outside, therefore someone or something must have woken up, what or who was it?, it's a part of the story of that night that is missing, and considering Frank is on the payroll is smells highly fishy.

http://www.nytimes.com/2012/01/22/magazine/oscar-pistorius.html?pagewanted=all&_r=0

Lots of good nuggets in this Jan. 2012, New York Times piece on OP, for instance:

"Pistorius lives in the house with a friend from high school, an engineer who moonlights as a mixed-martial-arts fighter. Pistorius had recently broken off a relationship with his longtime girlfriend, though another young woman was visiting when we got there. As he put together lunch for all of us — fruit smoothies, breaded chicken fillets he pulled from the refrigerator — he mentioned that a security alarm in the house had gone off the previous night, and he had grabbed his gun and tiptoed downstairs. (It turned out to be nothing.)"

I'd always thought that Reeva had her own key. Wonder if that came out in trial?

I don't think that specific question was ever answered... as for Frank, maybe he had trouble keeping all the blondes in OP's life straight and therefore decided silence was his best option? If you go back to some of the earlier posts here shortly after the murder, there's some interesting tidbits that having come late to this I totally missed. ie. This Erin Stear, anything ever come of that?

Can anyone interpret this one?
