Barry Bateman@barrybateman#OscarTrial

Maringa says Pistorius could work at the Transvaal Museum or the Little Company of Mary hospital.
BIB - lovely. I would be so happy to have a convicted killer working at a hospital.

Maringa stresses that correctional supervision is a substantial penalty.

N: He's a candidate for this ( community serice) that's all?

Now trying to get witness to concede gross negligence is eligible for harsher sentence.

Witness says that house arrest is okay because if witness is not co-operative can always be called back to court....

Was the recommendation for 16 or 60 hrs per month community service....sound not too good here?

I thought he said 16 hours too but thought my hearing must be off. The way this is going sounds as if they'll even buy him a lovely house to do his sentence in and probably donate a few blondes to help around the house.

This is more sickening than listening to the verdict.

MJ: The conviction is on a lesser charge, therefore I consider correctional supervision to be suitable...

N: You saw that accused fired four shots into the door?

MJ: It's not in the judgement...he fired a shot into the ground....

N: You're confusing the two incidents.

andrew harding@BBCAndrewH

Nel stresses that #OscarPistorius fired 4 shots and knew someone was behind door. Maringa, after some confusion, agrees.

  • #348
Now witness is slowly understanding Nel is talking about the shooting of Reeva, not the restaurant incident....

  • #349
This outrageous. He hasn't read the judgment IMO. He thought ONE shot was fired into the floor. Nel says that was another charge. Nel tells him 4 shots were fired through a door.

  • #350
This witness is astonishing. I can't believe how inept he is...

andrew harding@BBCAndrewH

So this witness was provided by the state. Defence wants him to give evidence about possible "house arrest"

I have to jump away so now for a bit I can only follow by WS...this witness was provided by State. What the heck State?

*rollseyes* *facepalm* *blinks*

  • #352
He doesn't know black talons were used.

  • #353
MJ: It was because of fright...he said he shot because he was frightened someone coming out....

N: You've got the judgement wrong.....you made a report and you haven't understood the judgement...

  • #355
N:...sentence shld be imposed based on merits and judgements of the case.

M: Correct.

N: And that you did not do.

  • #356
This witness is appalling. He's only interested in picking up the case after the verdict was handed down. Nothing that happened prior to verdict. Nel's trying to point out how serious the crime was.

  • #357
Alex Crawford@AlexCrawfordSky#OscarTrial

Nel using his incredulous voice again querying how he can pronounce on suitable sentence if he doesnt know facts of case

  • #358
I'm giving a 'silent scream' now. This is beyond belief.:shame:

  • #359
The witness said he had no intention to shoot ... that is what was in the judgment.

Nel tells him he's wrong, he's misread the judgment.

  • #360
N: You recommmended 2768H? based on seriousness of the crime....you know OP walked down passage with intention to use firearm...

MJ: As far as I recall, he had no intention to shoot, according to judgement.

N: You're wrong....

MJ: I'm sure I saw it somewhere.
