N: He offended immediately thereafter-

Judge: It's the likehood of reoffending. We must put this in context.

I didn't catch the name of the criminal they are talking about...

Sunday Rapist, Jaco Steyn. he raped 33 women and murdered a teenage girl.

Off work today so watching live.... Not sure if thats sensible of me or not!

N: In terms of 2 counts in this case, culpable homicide and negligent handling of a firearm, you know there was only a month between them?

AV reads from her report again. And Nel appears to lose his way a bit.

Oh, no Nel and Vergeer are getting into the Sunday rapist. Vergeer gave the view that this mass rapist and murderer would "not likely to reoffend" and "he had remorse."

He immeditaely reoffended - sexual assault 30 more times..?!

This shows the terrible institutional problems, gross misunderstanding and lack of care, research about widespread world beating rates of sexual predation in SA.

If you have three offenses than I find it shocking a psychiatric team, this bumbling probation officer Vergeer could think that short treatment would make it likely Steyn would lack recidivism. Crikey - do they have any understanding of rapist statistics...

Don't know if it's just me, but I find myself getting really cross with Nel sometimes .. he keeps switching from really nailing a witness on something, and then goes on and on with something which is not relevant to the specific part of the proceedings and it just ends up muddying the waters.

I have a feeling he's never felt so out of control, that a witness won't answer his questions and he can't do anything about it. He gets sidetracked when they fail to answer. Such a shame.

It's clear, to me, that My Lady doesn't believe that OP is likely to reoffend, based on her comment to Nel when she interrupted his cross.

I have zero doubt that OP WILL reoffend - if not with a firearm, then with another type of weapon. His temperament, arrogance, and behavioral history guarantees it, IMO.

AV:..it's not just the fact he (OP) is disabled, I'm no expert but it's bandages, having to clean them, his character, his personality...

I'm glad to just only read on WS and Twitter. I don't want to listen or to watch.

Vergeers way of saying "Milady" is like fingernails on a chalkboard to me....

Nel just needs to get this woman off the stand. He has already destroyed her credibility, so move on!

Nel lists the number of disabled people admitted to prison, how they have coped. Asks what would she say to that?

AV says she 'Would have to take note thereof'

Next answer, she says she doesn't know the regulations.

N: I want it put on record you don't know the correction services regulation act.

Good morning from Texas. Late to the party as usual. :blushing:
Did I miss anything important or is it just the same drivel about Saint Oscar?

This is my first post but I have been reading all your posts with great interest , and thank you for all your insights as it has helped me a lot in understanding this case. What has prompted me to take the plunge and write my first post is this.... I have never seen or heard an advocate fight so hard on behalf of a grieving family, and to get justice for a deceased person who can no longer speak for themselves. Gerrie Nell has done everything he can, with passion, and I truly believe that he 100% KNOWS that Pistorius is guilty of murder, and is now fighting for her family to see justice done and get him put away. Nothing less than 10 years will be justice. Personally he should be put away for 25, but I do not think he will spend 1 day in prison.

Nel's doing it again .. he was just making a good point by stating exactly how many people are in prison who have disabilities .. and then going on to say that psychological needs are also catered for either by state or private means, but he's now saying it all in such a confused way that his point is being lost, especially when this woman starts gabbling on .. he needs to reign it all in, so that his point is getting across clearly.

Same ole, same ole.

Can not believe hours of hours of State resources are being allowed to go waste on a witness such as this. Isn't it amply clear to the judge already that her report and entire testimony should be thrown out?

AV: The mere fact services are available...have to look at the quality...it has to benefit him, help his growth...

Now denying to Nel that she just said services are inadequate, but I think that's exactly what she did just say.
