It's like watching someone try and book a hotel!

Oh for god's sake .. if catching a disease in prison is a reason for not sending criminals to prison, then it should apply to all prisoners and no-one would ever be in prison! All this type of reasoning is just nuts.

I agree, I don't understand what this has to do with OP. Roux is trying to expose the prison system as inadequate and basically inhumane, so lets just shut up shop, evict all the prisoners and close them down. Modise is making changes, he's made a difference already in 5 yrs. Modise agreed the system was once very corrupt, they've got a ways to go.
JMasipa has had no problem sending convicted criminals to prison before, why does it suddenly change for OP.

This is a farce, it's no longer about OP, maybe, JMasipa should feel guilty for even sending one person to prison!

Is anybody going to be surprised if they ask about the quality of the toilet roll?
Will want to know how many feet per roll.

Anyone know what a "gene expert machine" is... or did I hear that wrong?

I thought he was saying gene indicator machine but then I heard him say 'regime' so not sure at all what all that meant. Can't believe there's
some kind of machine that scans people and shows what kind of diseases they have. That's kind of in the realms of Star Trek.

Actually it was Nel and i was surprised too, both by it and the reaction. At least they didn't all launch into a rousing version of 'for she's a jolly good fellow'. I mean, this is a court of law and they are all adults.

Thanks lithgowI, I love Nel but I think this should have been said in private . I really don't think that clapping and cheering at a serious trial such as this where a young woman has been brutally killed is appropriate.

nice to hear a witness giving straight answers to advocate's questions.

Simply put: This is ridiculous!

Roux is now talking about the privilege about medical care: “There this reality in life when I go and see a doctor, I will go to a doctor and choose him from a style….one must drive and if it takes a considerable time…and it may be expensive.”

Ahhh, it's weird Roux is almost making me want to experience South African medical care, you can choose your own doctors! You're in a prison, or if you're in need of medical care in a hospital and still can choose a doctor - other countries look on with respect.

#oscartrial Modise says he'd have to get list of machines available - he only knows 'gene expert' machine.

#oscartrial Modise says there's a sophisticated diagnostic machine to identify patients with TB.

I agree with D Dadic that Roux is covering his bases here so that if Pistorius is sent to prison it can be the hospital section.

Oooh - I liked Masipa's interjection then about the six hours!

  • #293
good---witness confirms that assessment would be required to determine OP suitability....for hospital section and then it will be determine whether he lands

witness -- there should not be any confusion nothing is taken for granted if the court determines ifOP needs hospital accommodation that would be honored otherwise he has to go through assessment.

This is a farce & Masipa should stop this now. This isn't a royal commission into the prison system it is a sentencing hearing for a convicted criminal.

Modise gives word that #OscarPistorius would be put in hospital wing.

What a gaffe by a director or whatever of prisons. Mr Pistorius is NOT paraplegic.

  • #297
Did anyone catch the name of that disease Roux was putting forth? I heard TB mentioned but there was another one just before that which sounded like 'diverticulitis' .. surely I misheard?

Margaret, we're definitely on the same page. :)

Oh come on - it's hardly a gaffe comparable to yesterday's expert witness succession of them.

Triumph for the State with this witness. He was very compelling and Roux hardly made any headway IMO.
