Respectfully disagree about the expense of toddlers

Idk.

Maybe Kim Kardashian feels that it takes 1 million dollars a year to keep her toddler happy and smart.

But I will tell you.

Most major league athletes from inner city communities had to grow up with families that made way more less than Ross.
Jmo.

Plus you have wic and foodstamps and thrift stores and hand me downs and whatever else.

Toddlers in 3rd world countries grow as well on rice and beans

So its not expensive to raise a toddler if you have medical coverage and some basics. Jmo

Idk.

Toddlers are not that expensive at all. Jmo.

Because you have people supporting 10 kids while on welfare every single day.

Jmo.

Btw. They say that he applied at Chick-fil-A for a partime job.

But anyways.

Current monthly daycare at Little Aprons= $865

http://child-care-preschool.brighthorizons.com/GA/Atlanta/thd/Frequently-Asked-Questions/

Add in diapers and you're looking at a toddler costing $1000 more a month than not having a toddler, let alone a child of any age. He would have cost more to have on insurance (than not having a child), he would cost more in upgrading necessary equipment (upgrade car seat, bed, baby gates, etc.)

As I've seen no indication the Harris's were allowing their fellow taxpayers to pick up their child rearing expenses (through welfare), it cost the Harris's, at minimum, $1000 a month to
provide for their child. A dead child costs no more money after funeral expenses.

I think a lot of people would consider 1000 a month, on top of mortgage, car payments, food, clothing.....to be 'expensive'. More so than say, having a dog.

How anyone can defend Ross Harris or rationalize his actions is beyond me. He is a slimy 🤬🤬🤬 for sure and poor Cooper suffered for his sperm donors selfishness.JMO

No one is excusing his responsibility for his son's death. And I'm pretty sure we all agree that he's a slimy so-and-so. He should bear the consequences for those actions - but let's not convict for malice murder if he did not plan this and kill Cooper on purpose. He might be guilty of child abuse or neglect, and he should pay the price for that. His son is dead and his wife divorced him and he's been in jail for two years and he'll also face trial for sexting the underage girl (shades of Anthony Weiner) so he is paying the price for being a terrible husband and deficient parent.

Wasn't Harris 34 years old when this happened? I thought he was born in 1980.

Oh you may be right. Not sure where I came up with 25. Either way, the point is the same.

What does the defense attorney not get about the difference between acting hysterical and being hysterical?

  • #806
I suppose it's relative. As a parent I find children to be very expensive. Regarding chickfila, I thought he unsuccessfully applied there, because he didn't get the promotion at Home Depot...not a side job. I'd have to go back and find that info

Yes. Because now days.

Every kid is expected to have a cellphone at the age of 5.

But back in the days.

Kids were expected to be capable of caring for the youngers at the age of 8 jmo

If he is guilty of neglect, than he should be guilty of felony murder.

IMO, I think that will be the verdict here. I think proving intent will be enormously difficult, and more difficult for a jury to agree on.

I know right. He handled it well when he said "thats why I wrote acting" LOL

LOL. We homeschool and live on one frugal, with no bells and whistles. These suckers are still expensive! As I said, it's relative.

Has the defense said it took literally a minute to get to the intersection? I remember the ACJ 's renactments indicating the drive from CFA to the intersection would take longer than a minute. And IIRC, the defense said in opening that it took Harris 5 odd minutes from CFA to his work.

So, am unsure about that minute claim.

As for kids (young) falling asleep quickly in the car. Honestly, I think that's not at all uncommon, and have seen it happen with more than a few babes and tots I've driven about over the years.

Again, unless I remember incorrectly, Cooper hadn't slept well for several nights.....

It took one minute to go from the Chikfilla to the main exit, where he had to decide which way to turn. He turned towards his office, as opposed to the Daycare. So it took less than a minute for him to 'forget' about his baby.

These children and situations you speak of have nothing to do with Cooper, Ross and their situation. The point is what it actually cost Ross to provide for Cooper, and how that may have gone to motive of being child free.

I find it hard to believe the state could have "nothing" and a judge would keep him in jail for two years with no bail.

Forgot to quote- but respectfully disagree with previous post. I get there is a possibility of inconsistencies or exaggerations by a certain detective. Obviously they will be proven here at trial if that's the case.

Most people assume cops are telling the truth and judges are fair. That's very often not the case. We already know the testifying detective at the pc hearing misrepresented evidence and, yes, actually lied.

Maybe the State will hit hard with something unexpected, but if they have good evidence of intent - typically they would have mentioned it in opening statements.

I continue to have an open mind. When this first happened I argued with my mother about it because I was sure he was guilty and she wasn't convinced. It was onl when I learned that the "facts" they spread throughout the media were not as they were presented by police

I have 2 kids that are 1 year apart.

And they are teens now.

But trust me.

It did not take 2000 a month to raise both minus regular bills that occur without kids.

So I'm not counting rent nor pge nor water nor cable nor Internet or any other bill that has to be paid even without having kids.

Because he wasn't acting appropriate, he was defensive and odd.

I heard something new in female officer #2 's testimony, which is that Ross tried to return to Cooper and she "shooed him away."

I keep listening for what any of these officers found "odd" initially. Harris tried to do CPR- or something, others took over from him, immediately, Harris was distraught, blaming himself, screaming, pacing, tried to return to Cooper.

What the heck was "odd" about any of that?

Thedaycare is expensive ( most are) did he get any type of discount? If he was looking for a second job, why was he looking at a cruise trip.

  • #817
Defense attorney just made a good point that I thinks gives a preview of the defense mindset and theory. The cops arrested Ross within 5 minutes of him discovering his clearly dead son. He was arrested because the cops didn't like his attitude and got butt hurt that he did not immediately obey them even though he was not under arrest and was not at that time suspected of committing a crime.

And I tend to agree this is what happened. Cops were arrogant and didn't like this civilian who didn't immediately prostrate himself before them, despite the fact that he just realized his son was dead and he was responsible. They decided they were going to pin thus on him to put him in his place. Maybe they really believed it because they decided right away they didn't like him. (Cops do tend to think every non-cop is a criminal and that everyone is lying. I know because my husband was a cop for 20 + years before he became a lawyer). But they had to really stretch the limits of credulity to come up with enough evidence to make it past a probable cause hearing. And their lead investigate still had to lie about the evidence (or lack) to persuade the court.

I really think the State has nothing. And that's why they are now so desperate to bring evidence of sexting so they can bias the jury enough against him that they'll convict him for being a dirtbag who cheated on his wife and acted like a cad.

Sorry you have such feelings...I see you are a verified attorney.

Then I suppose that detective will be arrested for perjury? I'm aware of accusations. I'm not aware that we know he actually lied and is not being charged with perjury- I'm going to assume that if its fact he lied then he would be charged. Genuinely saying this no snark intended.

IMO it's a big stretch that everyone from police to bystanders to judges all were untruthful or not fair- so much so that he has been sitting in jail with no bail for two years.

I highly doubt Cooper fell asleep after a thirty second car ride.

Me too. And in my own experience, all of my toddlers would have been reaching up to touch me and talk if they were that close. [emoji17]
