*Sentencing Hearing (@ 8:30am PT) – CA - Emmanuel Haro (7 mos. old) reported kidnapped by mother on Aug. 14, 2025. He was last seen on Aug. 5, 2025 in Yucaipa. Still missing. *Jake Mitchell Haro (32) "father" arrested (8/22/25), charged (8/26/25) & arraigned (9/4/25) with 1st degree murder & filing a false police report. Plead not guilty [9/4/25]. Held without bond. Bond set (8/26/25) at $1M CASH only. Plead guilty on 10/14/25. Riverside County

9/16/25 Update: The parents of baby Emmanuel are expected to appear in court Tuesday as prosecutors & defense attorneys explore resolving the case through a possible plea agreement. Today Jake Haro's attorney’s filed to push back the felony settlement conference & even though Rebecca Haro's Attorney objected, the judge granted that request. The new date for the felony settlement conference will be on 10/16/25 & the start of the preliminary hearings will be on 10/28/25. Which will be where the judge determines if there is enough evidence, or "probable cause," to believe a crime was committed.
10/16/25 Update: Jake Haro pleaded guilty to all charges, which include second-degree homicide, filing a false police report & assault of a child under 8; great bodily injury resulting in death. The Riverside County DA's office noted that the plea was made straight to the judge, without negotiations between the defense & prosecution. Jake Haro faces a potential sentence of 25 years to life in prison. He is set to be sentenced on 11/3/25 # 8:30am. Rebecca Haro, did not plead guilty; the case against her will continue. She is also charged with Emmanuel's murder, along with filing a false police report & other charges. Next for Rebecca pretrial conference hearing on 10/28/25 @ 8:30am.
*Rebecca Renee Haro (41) "mother" arrested (8/22/25), charged (8/26/25) & arraigned (9/4/25) with 1st degree murder & filing a false police report. Pretrial conference hearing on 1/21/26.

*Sentencing Hearing (@ 8:30am ET) – MI - Kyrie Karter Muhammad Starks (23 mos.) (June 13, 2022, killed by Babysitter, threw boy against wall, shook him, told mom he ingested soap, Roseville) - *Kimora Launmei Hodges (21/now 24) arrested (6/14/22) & originally charged (6/13/22) & arraigned (6/23/22) with 1st degree child abuse has now been upgraded & arraigned (1/10/23) & charged (1/10/23) to felony murder & 1st degree child abuse. Plead not guilty. $250K Cash or Surety bond. Bod was revoked on 7/31/25. Macomb County's 39th District Court-Roseville/Bound over to Circuit Court 16th District Macomb County
Trial began on 7/22/25. State & defense rested their cases on 7/30/25. Jury received case on 7/31/25 to start deliberations. Deliberated for about 2 hours & found Hodges GUILTY on both charges.

8/12/25 Update: On Tuesday, August 12, The Gallatin County Commission approved County Attorney Audrey Cromwell’s request to hand over two deliberate homicide cases to the Department of Justice. The cases include Chris Foiles, who is accused of murdering his girlfriend, Megan Stedman, in 2023 in the Bozeman Walmart parking lot. And, Daren Abbey, who is charged with the brutal murder of Dustin Kjersem at a campsite near Big Sky in 2024. The Attorney General's Office confirmed to MTN that having the Prosecution Services Bureau assist with these types of cases is "relatively standard" but that they can only do so when the county attorney's office asks for their help directly. Final pretrial conference hearing on 10/21/25 @ 1:30pm.
10/21/25 Update: Abbey appeared in court Tuesday for an omnibus hearing. His trial is scheduled to begin on 11/3/25. Attorneys discussed jury selection, scheduling & other logistics ahead of the proceedings.

Nov. 8, 1996 in Fresno, found March 29, 2007 east of Woodland in an irrigation slough & was wrapped in a Winnie the Pooh blanket & a layer of plastic before being placed in a metal cooler. The cooler was weighed down with heavy objects & submerged in the slough, located about 15 miles northwest of Sacramento. He suffered a fractured skull & other blunt force trauma. He also had healing fractures, including broken ribs, that showed a pattern of abuse), Kato Allen Perez (b. 1992 in Merced, known to be dead), Mika Alena Perez (b. 1995 in Merced, not found), Nikko Lee Perez (b. 1997 in Fresno, not found) & Kato Krow Perez (b. 2001 in Fresno, not found) - *Paul Allen Perez (30 @ time of first crime (1992)/57/now 63) arrested (1/21/20) & charged (1/22/20) & arraigned (1/28/20) with 5 counts of premeditated murder with special circumstances of lying in wait [special circumstances were dismissed], torture & multiple victims, 4 counts of assault on a child under 8 with force likely to produce great bodily injury resulting in death & criminal enhancements for his prior convictions. 10/16/25 Update: Jake Haro pleaded guilty to all charges, which include second-degree homicide, filing a false police report & assault of a child under 8; great bodily injury resulting in death. The Riverside County DA's office noted that the plea was made straight to the judge, without negotiations between the defense & prosecution. Jake Haro faces a potential sentence of 25 years to life in prison. He is set to be sentenced on 11/3/25 # 8:30am. Rebecca Haro, did not plead guilty; the case against her will continue. She is also charged with Emmanuel's murder, along with filing a false police report & other charges. Next for Rebecca pretrial conference hearing on 10/28/25 @ 8:30am.
11/3/25 Update: Victim impact statement by Mary, Rebecca's mother. Haro sentenced to 25 years to life in prison after he pleaded guilty to the baby's murder. He was also sentenced to over six years in prison for other offenses, to run consecutively. He is ineligible for probation because he was already on probation for severely abusing another child, the judge said while handing down the sentence on Monday. His sentence also included more than $20,000 in fines & court fees.

11/10/25 Update: According to officials with the 97th Judicial District Court, a plea agreement was made on Monday with Newsom pleading guilty to injury to a child by failing to protect, linked to her daughter’s death. As a part of the plea agreement, Newsom was sentenced to 22 years in prison. Officials said she was taken into custody by the Clay County Sheriff’s Office immediately following her plea hearing. 97th Judicial District Attorney Katie Boggeman said the plea comes “after a lot of consideration.” Boggeman added, “As a mom, I don’t know any amount of time is enough, but it was the right move for our county & to finally let that baby rest in peace.” As a part of the plea agreement, Newsom has waived her right to appeal, while Fulbright’s appeal case is still pending in the Second Court of Appeals.

11/14/25 Update: Linn County Judge Chad Kepros sentenced Van Patten to life without parole for the kidnapping & killing Melody, whose bound & mutilated body was found in a pond in February 2024. Van Patten was also sentenced to up to 10 years on the conspiracy charge, which will run concurrent to the life sentences. Restitution will be determined at a later date. Judge Chad Kepros denied the defense’s motions for a new trial, ruling that the jury’s verdicts were fully supported by substantial evidence — including Van Patten’s DNA on duct tape & a knife, incriminating photos taken after the killing & testimony showing he & codefendant McKinley Louisma acted together at every stage. Hoffman’s parents delivered emotional victim impact statements. Her father, T.J. Hoffman, told the court that “when someone does something so cruel, society has a moral obligation to remove that individual,” calling his daughter a light whose loss “tore generations apart.” Her mother, Megan Hoffman, tearfully condemned Van Patten as a “coward,” saying his own selfies & actions helped lead to his conviction: “You messed with the wrong mama… I hope she haunts you forever.”

1/26/24 Update: The 11th Circuit U.S. Court of Appeals has scheduled oral arguments hearing in the case for 3/27/24 for all 3 men in Atlanta. Attorneys for Greg & Travis McMichael & William “Roddie” Bryan are asking the court to throw out hate crime convictions returned by a jury in coastal Brunswick in 2022.
3/27/24 Update: In legal briefs filed ahead of their appeals court arguments, lawyers for Greg McMichael & Bryan cited prosecutors’ use of more than two dozen social media posts & text messages, as well as witness testimony, that showed all three men using racist slurs or otherwise disparaging Black people. Bryan’s attorney, Pete Theodocion, said Bryan’s past racist statements inflamed the trial jury while failing to prove that Arbery was pursued because of his race. Instead, Arbery was chased because the three men mistakenly suspected he was a fleeing criminal, according to A.J. Balbo, Greg McMichael’s lawyer. In Travis McMichael’s appeal, attorney Amy Lee Copeland didn’t dispute the jury’s finding that he was motivated by racism. The social media evidence included a 2018 Facebook comment Travis McMichael made on a video of a Black man playing a prank on a white person. He used an expletive & a racial slur after he wrote: “I’d kill that .... .” Instead, Copeland based her appeal on legal technicalities. She said that prosecutors failed to prove the streets of the Satilla Shores subdivision where Arbery was killed were public roads, as stated in the indictment used to charge the men. If the U.S. appeals court overturns any of their federal convictions, both McMichaels & Bryan would remain in prison. All three are serving life sentences in Georgia state prisons for murder & have motions for new state trials pending before a judge.
3/27/24 Additional Update: One of the judges from the 11th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals (Atlanta) sounded skeptical of the argument from defense attorneys. U.S. Circuit Judge Britt Grant said the trial evidence of racist intent behind Arbery's killing "seems pretty overwhelming to me." None of the videos showed Arbery stealing & police found no stolen property or weapons on his body. U.S. Circuit Judge Elizabeth "Lisa" Branch & District Court Judge Victoria Calvert also heard the arguments. The judges did not indicate how long they might take to rule.
11/14/25 Update: Re Appeal: A federal appeals court on Friday upheld the hate crime convictions of three white men who chased Ahmaud Arbery through their Georgia subdivision with pickup trucks before one of them killed the running Black man with a shotgun. A three-judge panel of the 11th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals took well over a year to rule after attorneys for the defendants urged the judges in March 2024 to overturn the case, arguing the men's history of racist text messages & social media posts failed to prove they targeted Arbery because of his race. Even if the appeals judges had thrown out their hate-crime convictions, the trio faced no immediate reprieve from prison. That's because they're also serving life terms for murder after being convicted in a Georgia state court.

11/17/25 Monday, Trial Day 16, Verdict Watch Day 1: Taylor & Brothwell were convicted Monday of murdering the two children & also convicted of two counts of child abuse under circumstances or conditions likely to cause great bodily injury or death, according to the District Attorney's Office, which noted that prosecutors had proven that the couple forced their younger sons, who were then ages 8 & 9, to view their siblings' bodies & to remain confined in their bedrooms without food for several days. The two are facing life prison terms without the possibility of parole, with sentencing set for 1/13/26 at the Lancaster courthouse, according to the District Attorney's Office. I guess when the thread changes to Trials it stops showing up in my Watched Threads, so I lost track of it, and just ran across a news article. However, the article though doesn't explain much. Hard to understand why parents would do such a thing. The mother was involved, too, which wasn't suspected yet back in the beginning. This was back in 2020. Horrible! ​

10/8/25 Wednesday, Trial Day 8: Sentencing Phase Day 6: Jury continues deliberations. A St. Charles-based jury recommended Rocha be sentenced to death for the 2022 murder of North Kansas City Police Ofc. Daniel Vasquez. Jurors needed less than a day to deliberate on the sentencing, in which they were tasked with determining whether Rocha would serve the rest of his life in prison or face the death penalty. Clay County Circuit Court Judge David Chamberlain set sentencing hearing on 11/24/25.

*Sentencing Hearing (@ 1:30pm ET) - NY – Michaela MacVilla (21) (last seen Sept. 25, 2018 heading home right after her shift at Stewart's shop in the Village of St. Johnsville; found Oct. 2, 2018 shot in the head at a close range, dragged into the underbrush with her pants pulled down in Oppenheim) – *Daniel A. Nellis, Sr. (45/now 52) arrested (9/30/18), indicted, charged & arraigned (11/15/18) with 2nd degree intentional murder, 1st degree criminal possession of a weapon & 2 counts of 3rd degree criminal possession of a weapon. Plead not guilty. Held without bond. Fulton County
According to the investigation conducted, on September 25, 2018, at 1am MacVilla is at Daniel A Nellis Sr. & left the place the following day around 12 noon as caught in the surveillance camera. It was seen that the car of Nellis’ was going to the location where the dead body of MacVilla was found. As evidence shows, MacVilla’s Fitbit showed that her heartbeat was spiking around 12:20pm before she lost her heartbeat.
Trial started 6/5/19 & ended 6/19/19. 12 jurors & 2 alternates. Jury deliberated about 8 hours & verdict GUILTY of 2nd degree murder. Sentenced 8/22/19 to 40 years to life. Conviction was overturned on 6/8/23.
Trial was set to begin on 9/8/25 was cancelled as Nellis plead guilty on 8/8/25.

11/24/25 Update: Rocha was sentenced to death by lethal injection on Monday after he was found guilty of murdering North Kansas City Police Officer Daniel Vasquez. Under orders from the Missouri Department of Corrections director, Rocha will be executed by lethal injection at a date set by the state’s Supreme Court. Defendant sentenced. Count 1 - Defendant sentenced to 999 Years Doc 24.035/29.15 Ineffective Counsel: N No, Allocution: Y Yes, Authorize Additional Officer: Y Yes, Death Penalty: Y Yes. Sentencing hearing held.
